"Uh-huh, Brian. And I've got a castle to sell you." After the creep mentions that he has Eva's mother, she sneers at him, betrayal and hatred burning in her eyes.

"I believe everything Eva said. You're a liar and a selfish prick."
Nov 14, 2023 9:37 am
"You're running outta chips to play with, pal..." Dave looked on like a proud parent as Eva literally wrung some truth outta Mr. Smug. "You can throw out all the snarky quips and creepy, cryptic hints you want but if you wanna walk outta here...or maybe walk at all...you might as well realize there ain't no camera here to capture your performance. Whatever info you have, Plaxo or Wyvern Lake will probably just assume you talked. Your burned whether you talk or not." Dave took out Floyd's phone again, "They know who took you and what we're capable of. Even if you go back to them, you're useless now. Can't be trusted. Might as well talk..." He tossed the phone to Augusta, "You got a pretty powerful social circle... See any numbers in there you might recognize?"
OOC:
I wonder if Augusta's parents' number could be in Floyd's phone?

Searching the phone, Augusta sees a number of names she recognizes, members of high society in both Graybridge and Annesburg. Both city's mayors, a number of council members, members of the wealthy elite. She recognizes the name of her friend Peyton among the contacts. She also recognizes some other names that have come up before. The TANC's warden is in his contacts, as is Rosalind Parker, the prison guard they interacted with during their last visit there. He's definitely well connected. But she doesn't find a contact that jumps out at her as Eva's mother. Of course, there are a number of names she doesn't recognize and she doesn't have the first clue as to what Eva's mother would be called, so that isn't saying much.

"I choose to believe I'm too valuable for them to just get rid of me based on an assumption," Brian says to Dave, though the man's words clearly are making him nervous.
He turns his eyes to Melissa. "I'm sorry that I made you feel this way. But I'm not lying to you. I did promise you full honesty tonight, didn't I? Of course that was before you had those people who you have fallen in with kidnap and beat me up." Through the blood on his face, he looks at her with seemingly nothing but kindness in his eyes. "I was really hoping that we could make this work tonight. That we could speak openly and honestly and reconnect. I knew this"—he nods to indicate the warehouse and the others present—"was a danger, but I was willing to take it for you. But even if you don't have any more feelings for me, Mel, I cannot believe you have lost yourself so much in such a short amount of time. You would not let these new friends of yours kill or torture me, would you? You're not like them. You're a good person."
OOC:
Brian is initiating a conflict with Melissa now, with his goal being to get her to release him.
He's challenging his relationship with her, previously believing he could get her back and now very much doubting that possibility. That triples his relationship die with her for this roll but steps it back to a D6 afterwards for the remainder of the session.
I'll spend a PP (Note it down, Windy) to add one more die to the toal for a 22 that Melissa would have to beat (unless she chooses to give in 😉)

Rolls

Love, Melissa, Attractive - (1D6, 3D8, 1D8)

1D6 : (3) = 3

3D8 : (881) = 17

1D8 : (4) = 4

Nov 14, 2023 4:46 pm
Augusta uses her own phone to video record the contacts as she scrolls through them, opening several when she doesn't have those herself. Her eyes bug out at Peyton.

"He's connected to everyone you'd expect, and a lot more. A sterling lobbyist. His disappearance is going to cause a flurry of activity, if only erasing him from countless address books."
Nov 14, 2023 4:55 pm
Sighing and shaking her head in disbelief she has no qualms about hurting the man.

"You're really something Brian. I don't believe a word out of your mouth. I admit your sweet talking worked for a while but I've learned my lesson and am the better for it. You can't hold a candle to these people, and you're making your last gasps now, kind of like a fish flapping around on the deck of a boat. Heh."

The woman chuckles, pure hatred in her eyes as she looks at the man with disgust. "You used me. End of story. I'm still a good person and you most definitely are not. Now I'm done talking to you."

Rolls

Observant, Truth, Brian - (1d4, 1d8, 1d6)

1d4 : (3) = 3

1d8 : (5) = 5

1d6 : (4) = 4

Seething, Melissa storms out, calling over her shoulder to the others, "I'm going out for a smoke."

Melissa doesn't smoke. Hasn't done so in years but there is a semi-crushed pack of cigarettes in her glove compartment. She will try and rescue a cigarette and pick up the habit again. Maybe she will watch Brian getting the shit kicked out of him from the comfort of her smoke-filled car using the power he gave her.

Eva lingers in the background as Melissa and Brian spar. Having just heard about her… mother. It’s like being dealt a physical blow. But unlike anything Brian could muster with his fists, this actually hurts. Stuns her for a moment, even.

When Kort storms out, Eva approaches again, and she is seeing red. Her powerful fists are balled.

A deep, even breath tames her rage somewhat, but she’s back in the man’s smiling face.

"Where is she? Who is she?" she leads with.

Brian looks concerned. He has been counting on Melissa to be his way out, or at least, for her to stop the others from roughing him up too much. And now she's gone. He turns his eyes to Eva when she approaches him and his smile reappears on his bloody face, still looking mostly convincing. "If you want a chance to meet her, maybe you should start being a bit nicer to me, Eva."
Nov 16, 2023 10:26 pm
"Of course..." Dave said, leaning back on the cold concrete wall, "...the other option is ripping out your eye for the retinal scanners and lopping off your hand for the fingerprint readers and just going into Wyvern Lake and getting her out ourselves." He figured Floyd knew what Eva was capable of. "It'll be fun. Like a family day at the park." he smiled wistfully, the possibilities dancing in his head. He took a deep breath and let the foggy exhalation flow slowly out in the chill of the cold, wet concrete room, "Did your parents not warn you about playing with monsters, Floyd? Eventually, you become their victim. Your only ray of hope just left and now it's just us monsters left..."
Nov 17, 2023 1:16 am
Augusta shakes, and in order to hide her growing discomfort, she shifts.

Oni Augusta
"Monsters, Brian. Like you wanted when you drugged me and destroyed my life. If anyone ever finds out about this, this thing, that you made, I shall never perform in public again, everything I've ever worked for, is over."

Brian looks uncomfortable with Dave's threats, but he still maintains his composure, "The key card in my apartment will help you much more than ripping out my eyes or hands would. Not that you'd be above doing the latter just for fun, I assume." He briefly glances at Eva again before adding, "Of course you're assuming that Eva's mother even is at Wyvern Lake. Or that you would be able to get out again once you're inside."

His expression softens when he turns to Augusta. "You were always going to fuck up your life sooner or later. There's so much anger inside you, Augusta. You won't be able to contain it forever and it will break out at some point. Then you'd never perform in public again. But I gave you an outlet for your anger. You can do whatever you want in this beautiful form and nobody will ever know she's you."
OOC:
Let's have one of you initiate another contest against Brian to try and push him.
Nov 22, 2023 7:14 am
Approaching Brian as Dave looms on one side, and what Augusta has become, the other, Eva squats down so she is eye-level with the man.

"Answer my question," she says simply, clear-eyed and tight-jawed.
OOC:
Remind me if this game has a helping mechanic? And what does Brian have for stress dice?

Edit: Still Truth (d10) and Dave (d10). And let's go with Heritage (d4, and which should probably should have been getting PP for previously), then spend a PP to activate this Exhausted tag (d10).

Looks like 18, unless you buy that Complication, in which case I'll spent the PP to hit 26.

Okay, so Brian is at a D10 Stress, his lifeline just left and Eva has rolled really well. He's giving in.
Brian's eyes dart between the three people all talking at him at the same time, all demanding answers. He glances to the door through which Melissa - the one person he was counting on to keep the others from killing or torturing him - left. He swallows, then says, "I'll tell you, alright." His eyes are on Eva more than the others. "I'll tell you what you want to know. Just, let me go afterwards? I'm your enemy, I know. But I'm not the only one. You won't gain anything by killing me. Someone else will just take my place." He let out a heavy breath, then said, "Better the devil you know, right?"

Oni Augusta frowns, her claws furling and unfurling. "What you tell us will determine that, Brian. If you hold out, we'll have no reason to keep you alive."

She considers what she wants to know. "First, what did you do to Melissa and me? How many others? And then we'll have a lot of questions about Wyvern Lake, starting with Eva's family."
Nov 25, 2023 6:33 am
Sitting on her powerful haunches, Eva just looks intently at the man, waiting for him to answer the other woman.

"No reason except your morality," Brian said with a hint of hopefulness. He let out a sigh, then said, "Wyvern Lake is researching metahuman abilities. What I gave you is one of our most successful experimental formulas. I gave it to you because I knew that deep down, you both wanted it. You pretend now that you don't, but sooner or later, you will thank me."

He then turned to Eva. "And as for you. The experiment didn't start with you. It didn't even start with Plaxo. Your mother was a military experiment, the perfect soldier. But, as she unfortunately had to discover, her DNA wasn't quite safe to pass on to children. She had twins and both of them were developing symptoms. She came to Plaxo for help and once they had figured out a treatment, it was an easy deal to make. Lose both children to their disease or trade one of them for the medication to keep the other alive."
Nov 25, 2023 5:20 pm
Eve stands, paces. "You knew they would want experimental drugs. From a program that holds people against their will, brainwashes them, gets them hooked on meds they need to survive?"

Looking at Augusta, seeing the woman through the monster, she shakes her head. "He's a fucking monster."

Three swift steps take her back to Brian, to being right in his face.

"Trade one of the children? Jesus. And then what, they also took her DNA to either create or modify all these other women?"
OOC:
Is there a well-known female super-soldier in this setting that we could put two and two together for?

None that you would immediately know. I'll say Dave could probably ask around some of his old contacts to try and figure something out.
Brian looks at Augusta when she makes her comment but he doesn't respond to it, instead turning his eyes to Eva again. "You were displaying signs of powers similar or even superior to your mother, even at an early age," Brian says. "From what I read in the files, it was no surprise my predecessors wanted to get their hands on you. As for your mother's motivation, I guess one child was better than none. I don't know whether it was luck of the draw or if you were just the less loved daughter." He chuckles, but quickly grows serious again, aware of his current situation. "And yes, some DNA samples of her and her husband, for research purposes."
