Here you can introduce your character and ask questions regarding character generation

Use the character sheet kindly provided here

If I understand things correctly, we're all supposed to be friends prior to the beginning of this adventure. In the spirit of that does anyone have any recommendations for a little bit of cooperative character creation that would attach us to each other?

We'll all make our own characters but hopefully this way it won't feel like a party of strangers.

The simplest thing would be a common age range and love of exploration. In a small village they're are only so many options for friends. We can be the adventurous, sometimes troublemaking, lot that the parent are always telling the other kids not to hang out with.
Some people love the small town close knit feeling. Others can't wait to leave.

Jahamu likes to wrestle and go fishing and have his fur brushed. If there's anyone who likes currying horses (or Karhu), they're a friend to Jahamu. If there's anyone who like fresh fish, Jahamu is a friend to them. Did I mention that he likes to wrestle?

Garic is a bit of a dreamer. Vissions of the glory he can win out in the big world fill most of his dreams, and much of his waking thoughts as well. Though he dtifuly studdied his families trade his secret training in preparation for his planned adventures recieved his true focus.

For the most part an easy going and fun loving youth Garic would probably not have combed Jahamu's fur unless there was a large cooked salmon in return Even that would be uncommon. However he would have loved wrestling the larger opponent and tried to convince him into joining his "sparring" sessions as a part of Garic's training. Which in their earlier years would have involved waving stick in the air at each other with lots of imaginary enemies that would eventually be defeated by Garic "and his band of trusty followers"
OOC:
Any objections to using shields as Improvised weapons? If so can he eventually gain weapon mastery with them?

Gale would have spent much time in the woods surrounding Flowergrove. As such I could see him having spent some times with Jahamu fishing.

Besides hunting, he wouls have spend some free time playing a form of hide and seek with his friends. He would have definitely 'cheated' at some point asking help from birds or small animal.

After you're finished I'll make a quick overview over the characters and their connections with each other

I see no problem with that. Garic could sharpen the edges , put blades on the shield or do something similar. I'd classify it as a light melee weapon. This means that you have to be close to an enemy in order to hit it
(The Zones-rule in TinyDungeon defines three zones from closest to furthest: Close, Near and Far)
Light melee weapons can only hit if you are in the 'close'-zone

What age range are we looking at? Late teens or early twenties? I could also just put 'young adult'.

Would ranged weapons be light, or their own category?

Could she use a type of chakram? Where it doubles as a dancing ring but she could also use them as bladed weapons (with enough practice/training of course)?

I'd say between 18 and 24 years
The rulebook doesn't mention the life expectancy for their heritages so we'll just assume human life expectancy.

Should I make a spot on the character sheet for her backstory or should I put it somewhere else for approval?

Put it in the character sheet.
You can add a part by just adding a table to the sheet
EDIT: Wanted to post the code but it just showed part of the character sheet

Your characters really look great so far! I think we have a very interesting party composition, allowing for lots of roleplaying

If you haven't added it already:
Each adventurer starts with an Adventurer's Kit containing:
A bedroll, flint & steel, a belt pouch, a rucksack, a lantern, an empty waterskin, oil, a rope (50 feet), rations, a torch, and a cloak.

Also you get the basic tools for your trade (E.g. A musical instrument for a bard, a hammer for a blacksmith, a fishing rod for a fisher,....)

@miss_sadie per the rulebook (p. 37), the three weapon categories for proficiencies are Light melee, Heavy melee, and Ranged:

I don't often rules lawyer, but when I do I like to pin cite.

Oh I answered your question and then didn't see your edit. What tibbius said is right.

You get proficiency for one group of weapon. But you can flavor your weapon how you like. So your light weapon can be a chakram.
You can still use a weapon you're not proficient in but you incur disadvantage on its use.

[ +- ] Tibbius
[ +- ] Scrol
I thought so, the sheet simply confused me as it had light, medium and heavy. So I just changed one of those to ranged for the chakram. I suppose it depends on actual ranges, but I believe they are actual ranged weapons. Not a bow range, but not exactly close either. The quick character I based her on had throwing discs as ranged so I based it on that.

Thank you both for the answer!

So is this still what we have on-deck?

Sprout - Heritage: Treefolk Trade: Farmer/Gardener
Garic - Heritage: Goblin Trade: Herbalist/Apothecary
Jahamu - Heritage: Karhu Trade: paw fisher folk
Vienne - Heritage: Human Trade: Tavernkeepers

I'm considering a sneaky Salimar, or an earnest, strapping young human. Son of the blacksmith kind of thing. Strong back, perhaps not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Submitted Josiah. He's public so folks can check him out... (love it when the PCs are public if folks are willing -- it should be the default!)

I didn't realize that was an option! I can see how it might be a problem in some games for backstories, etc but it is neat to do when you can. I put Vienne public so people can look at her if they want. Looking at Josiah made me realize I forgot the extra human trait so I added it.

Great! I updated the character information.
As soon as Bosko_b is finished with their character we can start

Thanks for sharing, Sadie -- Vienne is cool! Still searching for the right portrait for Josiah, but about to give up...
