'I'm sorry. I'm not aware of Nepthys.. She throws her companions a look, trying to clue them in something is off.

' Why would you need to take over a graverobbers gang?

Ekram Iffek
He begins to grow agitated at that question, the tension getting to him. "I don't want to fight you, but I will. I've made my offer in good faith."
Jun 16, 2023 7:41 pm
Iseret is fairly certain that we are not getting out of this without a fight and her hand edges closer to her sword.
Jun 17, 2023 8:44 pm
"She is right to ask this question. You are outmatched and have no chance of success in a fight here. I recommend you lay down your arms and prepare to have your hands bound so we can bring you in to the guard and question you more thoroughly."

The thing about cultists is...

He attacks suddenly, although it isn't a surprise. In fact, you're all expecting it and go first.

(He's going to strike at Tabat first with his khopesh, aiming low.)

Tabat, seeing the man springing to action against them, brings up his drawn khopesh and enters into a defensive stance. He moves forward and attacks, swinging his khopesh to strike at the man. "This was not the right choice," he growls.
OOC:
Defensive stance, -2 to attack +2 dodge AC, for a total of 24 AC. +1 from bless and since the enemy hasn't gone yet, he should be flat-footed.

Iseret attempts to move behind the individual (though if she goes first, it doesn't really matter because he is flat-footed) and find a weak spot.

Jaware raises his bow and unlimbers two shots, even as Tabat and Iseret render the cult leader like a cow at sacrifice. His first arrow is the one that does it, and Ekram Iffek sinks to the floor, his weapons falling from nerveless hands.

COMBAT IS OVER.

Tabat flourishes his sword, flinging the blood to the floor. He bends to the body. "Would that you had chosen differently, he says with a shake of his head.

"Well done," he says to the others before beginning a search of the body for anything of use or that might explain what this man's motives were.

Ptemenib
The priest looks into the room and prays for the dead.

Upon the corpse, you find: studded leather, composite shortbow (+3 Str) with 20 arrows, mwk kukri, magic khopesh, a key, a gold funerary mask (worth 50gp), and 21 gp in his pouch.

There are also two large iron chests in the room, and writing implements on a table.

Jaware indicates that a bird figurine and the khopesh are magical, plus items in the chests.

'... He was lying about his devotion.. I'm not sure we could have trusted his other words. Perhaps we can find something here to indicate his true goals? .' Khadi looks at the body clearly saddened at how it went, before joining Ptemenob in prayers

Tabat says a prayer as well, then helps the others pack away the ill-gotten goods, for use or for future sale. He lingers on the shortbow - it feels puny by comparison to the long bow he carries, but it's incredibly sturdy. He knows from the weight of the string and resistence on the pull that any arrow fired from this would be a magnitude stronger. "I'll exchange the bow, if nobody else wants it. It has a strong pull, but I think I can manage it."

He walks over to the boxes. "Iseret, may you look these over before we open them? I would hate for the fight to be over so quickly, only for one of us to lose a limb to a box."
Jun 18, 2023 3:11 pm
iseret nods and goes to work on the boxes.

The smaller chest is unlocked already, and contains Ptemenib's belongings.

Taking her time, Iseret gets the heavier chest unlocked. Inside, she finds a magical bag that contains an assortment of gemstones, necklaces, rings, statuettes and other items (when you get around to appraising it, you'll find them worth a total of 3,765gp).

On the table, there is a curious figurine made of tin, with three magical feathers, although the figurine has a spot for a fourth feather, too, but that one is missing.
Jun 29, 2023 2:11 am
Tabat moves to pick up the figurine. "Jaware, what do you make of this?"
Jul 2, 2023 5:02 pm
Jaware examines it, and says, "I'd bet this is just a holder for these, and one of them, possible a Bird Feather Token, is missing. See the empty slot? If that's what it is, then he's been sending messages to someone. That doesn't seem like a casual cult to me, these aren't cheap."
OOC:
Later identification will indicate that these are three Bird Feather Token's, and the bag is a Handy Haversack.

You return Ptemenib to the Grand Mausoleum, and Sebti is of course, very pleased. Ptemenib's expertise is immediately put to use to help organize the Pharasmin response to this zombie uprising.

Qasin
"Thank you, Destined Delvers, for rescuing my dear friend, let me give you something." The nosoi flies off and returns with a magical funeral figurine. "This is an ushabti of the willing servant," she explains, and then describes it's function and activation.
[ +- ] ushabti of the willing servant
Jul 2, 2023 7:53 pm
"Thank you, Qasin. We would not expect anything in return for helping you or your friend, but we will treasure this gift. May fortune favor you and all those you hold close." Tabat tips his head in gesture to Qasin before reconvening with his friends.

"There is still much to do in the city. To where shall we look to lend our attention next? With all the undead about, perhaps we should visit the necropolis itself and make sure it is well defended."
OOC:
Tabat is good with this Ushabti and the Bird Feather tokens going in the treasure pool to figure out later unless someone wants to claim either item now. One of us should carry the Haversack though, yeah? Tabat can already carry up to 153lbs and still have a light load.

"Agreed," Iseret says. Already she is growing weary of the undead but senses that this is far from over.
