Lets do this.
Mar 6, 2023 2:02 am
Anything that you want to remove from you starting stuff is just gone. Not fooling around with sale. May be require for encumbrance. Anything without an encumbrance starting then use common thought or ask your handy DM. Do not add anything that is not in your starting stuff. You will get a chance/time to add stuff.

Once we have all characters to this level. Then we will add bonus spending $$$. ( Anticipation) This is where a lot of misc. stuff is added. Some of such is free like scabbards and/or holder as well as weapon belts and such to personalize out your character's gear.

Smiles. As a DM, I always suffer when I allow starting magics, but you are level 7. My thoughts here is to make a list of what is available for starting. I will take suggestions and then edit this post with a list. First, I will take your suggestions then add mine.

List:
Potion of Healing

We have: Basil, DunnHD, MaJunior, Mathfuric, and szemely as selected players. So, unless the creation for characters doesn't get too long I will not be creating individual spot for each. Everything is fairly much posted here. Goal is to get all five you with characters done and then we will go on to get BONUS $$$ and Magics. As surely you feel your characters are a bit lean for level 7. I'm also sure that during the creation process you find that the packs are not great and tend to encumber out your backpacks. Never used 10 torches in fairly much all my years of gaming combined. Excuse me for not giving you gold for your removals. You can use the PC race languages for any extra learned languages you get. Mounts will not be needed to buy.

Edit: Edit if your missing gear like kits and such. Don't sweat it. BONUS $$$ will solve that as any missing gear you want.

Yippie! Thanks Gene!

So does everone have an "idea" of what they plan on playing? I think Im going for something simple with personality. Good ole Fighter. Of course that could change.

I should have something later today. I have a char with another very very slow campaign that I think I will just port over here.

Fighters are always cool. Looking forward to see it. You can apply incomplete characters as it does let me PEAK at them. NPC's can be added to cover any needed class. Feel free to pick what you want to play.

Keeping it PHB, probably going to multiclass Assassin Rogue with a little Barbarian.

I may ask about taking a feat from another book, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Well aware that 5e isn't so feat heavy as previous editions, but that is it. So, selection of feat is limited as such. Excited to see your character MaJunior.
Mar 7, 2023 7:26 pm
The feat I'm looking at is from Tasha's. This is it:

SKILL EXPERT
You have honed your proficiency with particular skills, granting you the following benefits:
• Increase one ability score of your choice by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.
• Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. You gain expertise with that skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill you choose must be one that isn't already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your profi- ciency bonus.

Well hello everyone :)

First up thanks for the invite Gene, secondly I am happy to take up the magic mantle for the party.

Thinking either Druid Or Sorcerer. Will probably play them plain as I have little experience with both.

Good to see you again, Mathfuric! :-)

Rethinking things here, I think I'll go Cleric, War Domain - follower of Bane Tempus, perhaps. I'll give it a some time to simmer...

That is a negative MaJunior on the Skill Expert Feat.

"SKILL EXPERT

Be nice to see what you have Mathfuric. Ooo cool there. Szemely. Cleric is good. Winks. So are Druids Mathfuric.

Hope DunnHD takes the invite and is with us soon. Seems you four are coming along. :)

Any idea's about races and gender? Smiles. So far I haven't seen a mention of any race or gender yet. Although quite a bit for Class. So far looks that MaJunior is the only one going for multiclass. Looks to be a bit early for backgrounds.
Mar 8, 2023 12:21 am
Damn. I like skill proficiencies. Lol

Guessing "Skilled" from Xanathar's is also a no-go.
Mar 8, 2023 12:29 am
In 5e, proficiency is really just a bonus on the roll. It really doesn't imply anything else. Not even skill. Proficiency in earlier editions had more meaning.

Yes the "SKILL EXPERT" is a no go. Most likely Skilled in Xanathar's will get the same thought. You must have dug well as I have Xanathears and really can't find that. There is a PHB version of skills that might be looked over.

I understand one of the books likes to change the racial stat bonus, I would ignore that. So, if it says +2 CHA then that isn't +2 to anything. I feel that really unstates the racial by allowing the change. Like what's the point in even saying what it goes to.

There are things in the later books that I'm not happy with and the above is one of them. There are so many it is hard to remember them so I let you all find them if needed. I really go heavy on the PHB. I like your personality and play to define your character and not the stats. 5e has a way of making everyone about equal.

With accords to 5e verses skills. A fighter with no proficiency in arcane knows about much as the Wizard with proficiency. Wizard just probably has a better roll to beat some harder DC's.
Mar 8, 2023 12:52 am
Sorry, the one in Xanathar's is "Prodigy."

Proficiency (and expertise) do reflect your ability with a given skill though... by making you more likely to succeed, or to have the potential to succeed at higher DC checks. A nat 20 on a skill check can still fail, so those extra points can make all the difference. It also isn't unrealistic to say a character simply can't attempt a skill check without proficiency. (Most often see that with Arcana and Religion.)
Mar 8, 2023 1:08 am
LOL. I did find Prodigy on the net but failed to find it in the hard bound book. That is also a no-go for Prodigy too.

All characters regardless of the of their background, class, race or gender can attempt a skill check. It is the same for all. Once again proficiency bonus and expertise even are just a bonus on the roll to defeat DC. Just because you don't have proficiency or expertise never disallows you to try on a skill check. DC are set without the concerns of proficiency and expertise. And yes, a "1" or "20" has no other meaning in a skill check roll.

The above is how 5e treats skills.

If I go druid, due to lack of real experience with them I will stay plain and go Wood Elf.

More of a warrior protector type than pure spellcaster, this may mean a Ranger level or two (need to do a little reading).

Gender will be male.
Mar 8, 2023 1:15 am
Elf is not an allowed race in this particular game. So, Wood Elf is not allowed. Half-Wood Elf is allowed. No problem on Multiclassing. Just make sure you have the correct stats for it is all. That usually isn't a problem but sometimes it is overlooked. When multiclassing, the first class listed on your character sheet is you starting class so I can tell with doing any hunting.

In this game, Elf and Tiefling which normally are common PC are NPC races.

Cool no elves :)
