"Must be your princely airs..." Misha quips..

Patrick thanks Lois for the fries, and pushes one order towards Paul and Misha before dumping ketchup on his. He chuckles at Misha's comment. "Yeah, must be."

He pops a few hot, greasy, salty pieces of ketchup-drenched potato into his mouth and seems to be contemplating something as he chews. "Real talk... is there a point we say fuck it and just bounce? Like, how deep do we get before we cut and run? Or do we stick it out no matter what?"
May 28, 2023 6:42 pm
"Yeah yeah..." Misha waved away the concern.
"...No point getting thrown in jail over this shit. I've seen enough Juvie."
Or you know, get your fucking brains blown out by a fucking trigger-happy cop. But Misha kept the fatalistic thought to herself.

"I guess we leave that to the boss," Paul says looking at Misha. "At the same time, strategic retreat is always an option if things go sideways." Paul thanks Patrick for the brain food and eats a few of the fries absent-mindedly.
OOC:
Is there any chance Paul could try and look up some old newspaper clippings via the local library, but from a digital collection?
May 31, 2023 1:51 am
OOC:
yes you could attempt to access the digital library collection fairly easily- give me an int+ computer roll to see what you can turn up
As Diana, Alexander and Rat Food move into the police area in the umbra they can identify what they assume is the evidence room- it appears as a collection of grungy shelves, but one box seems to almost glow as you get closer, the power of the fetish almost announcing itself in the spirit world.
OOC:
perception+ occult will give you an idea of what type of spirits are bound to the sword.

"OK, is there something down this rabbit hole..." Paul mutters while sifting through data. He's hoping those digital humanities classes help him tease out a few leads as to what might be going on here.

Anything specific you're looking for Paul or just something weird?
OOC:
pending Diana and Alexander's actions in the umbra here to move the story forward

Did we get anything on our occult rolls for the Vending machine aura?
For a brief moment she was tempted to slip out. Grab the sword, slip back in. Prove to the others she was capable. The sensible part of her mind quickly catches up however. They didn't know what was on the other side, if it was danger she couldn't guarantee getting back into the umbra immeadiatly. Work as a pack. That was what she kept telling the others, so she had to do it now as well.

Rolls

PER + Occult - (3d10+1d10)

(957) + (5) = 26

OOC:

You believe the sword is bound with two Engling spirits - one of war and one of speed.

OOC:

The plan here is to go back to the real world, grab the sword and then shift back to the umbra to escape, correct?

If so that would be a gauntlet roll to shift over, then perception and stealth checks to find/grab/remain unnoticed as you get the sword.

Alordis says:

Anything specific you're looking for Paul or just something weird?
OOC:
Not so much weird. Paul is after some local history that might shed light on some new group moving into town and affecting politics/governance. If vampires are behind this, are they a recent arrival or have they been here for a long time? Is there a family that has called the shots for generations or municipal officials' recent change in attitude after a mayoral election 5-10 years ago? Things like this might shed light on what they might be dealing with. Does that help? Sorry I was quiet the last few days. One of my kids brought home a stomach bug from daycare.

I thought we were actually just scouting. As we don't know what is on the other side.

OOC:
I thought we were going to jump in get the sword jump back out
Jun 7, 2023 9:42 am
OOC:
Would there be a way to tell if there are people around on the other side?
Jun 7, 2023 9:42 am
OOC:

If you're scouting only you've reached the limits of what you can learn effectively.

No worries Paul, I've been delayed because of my own illness the last week as well. No- you don't find anything like that in the papers however, it seems that vampirss or whoever is behind the energy drink have kept their movements quiet.

You do find mention of a strange lake monster in the local reservoir. . .

we posted same time so reasking in case missed: Would there be a way to tell if there are people around on the other side?
'Well it's still here. If I drop in, and there are people in the other side it may be fun getting out again if I can' t do it fast. ' She tries to weigh up the options. They were here, they had the opportunity. She' d slipped in easy enough, though she had felt the resistance. It could be so simple.

They had confirmed with the others what they were doing though. They weren't in position if something went wrong.

'.. One of you two could nip back to the others. See if we should take the risk, if you feel up to slipping out and in again?' Alex had been reckless early jumping into the Umbra. She didn't want to risk him slipping out when she left and getting into trouble.
