Book 1: A New Day

As Dianna examines the plants she remembers that ozone has a harmful reaction to plant life similar to this, and moreover, that lightning strikes create large amounts of ozone in the immediate area.

Paul walks the circle searching the area thoroughly, and finding that while the actual fire seems to end abruptly, there is damage to the leaves on trees outside the circle of fire.

Diana instantly steps sideways into the Umbra, but Paul takes 5 minutes to materialize in the spiritual realm.

The area around the scarred/burnt lands crackles with electricity here in the Umbra- it's obvious that lightning caused the damage, not fire- the signs in the umbra are much more vibrant and in their own way beautiful.

Here in the penumbra, the near end that's a mirror of the physical world the spiritual realm all feels even more real than what up to now you thought of as "reality". The experience is intoxicating- you feel a liminal buzz in your skin as you look around, then, almost reluctantly shift back to the physical realm to tell the others what you have confirmed.

Paul leads the way and you travel several miles further into the forest, then suddenly it appears before you.


There ahead you see it—like a ball of lightning rolling along the ground, sparks discharging wildly occasionally, damaging the leaves as you saw before—obviously a spirit, but not a Wyrm spirit, but wild, an electricity elemental!
