Noticing his cold gloves penetrating the barrier, Hooligander says, "I think this forcefield is temperature sensitive. Anything hot cannot penetrate the barrier."
Apr 15, 2023 1:45 pm
"Guess that means I have to stay on this side," Alakassandra comments in response to Hooligander's words.
Apr 15, 2023 6:36 pm
"Right....but where does that leave us? Do we need to cook something else? Weve all tried to modulate the temperature O that isnt it....
Apr 15, 2023 7:24 pm
Abby, you realise that you have not all succeeded at modulating the temperature, though.
Time is running out to stop the last of the soup from running out. Your appetizers may be followed by nothing but bread and butter (if you can get passed the obstacle). Maybe that will be enough? You don't know how much the quality of each task affects the overall exam, just that it is 'pass/fail' in the end, but anything you can do to avoid closer scrutiny going forward will help you hide your Wild attempts as being real Wizard Spells.

Ari was looking for the ingredient for the a roasted figs with parma ham and goat's cheese amuse-bouche when she heared Hooligander comment the temperature sensitivity of the force field. They put down the tome once more and start looking for force field variations, rolling their eyes as Alakassandra comments which side she should be "Cool down Alaks"

(Just a Hunch)

Hooligander's idea that you need to present an 'elegant, matched meal' is just so crazy that it might be true. 'They' will be judging you on your use of Magic (and especially judging you on your use of anything other than Magic), but Wizards are pompous enough that they might consider the ability to match dinner courses a vital part of being one.

You seem to have lost the soup --it ran out with the time-- but the cold-barrier around the unmelted butter suggests that that part is key, so the appetisers and the bread --properly buttered-- might have to be enough.

Hooligander's gloves made them feel cool, and may have penetrated the field, and Ari made themself completely cool, maybe that will allow them to pass through the force-field? Ari's 'Shield' Spell and Abby's rain also had similar effects on anything inside it, and might help make someone cool enough to get through.

What do you do?

OOC:
Ahah yeah that fits with what we were expected though the shield idea is a cool one I haven't thought about
"oh!" Ari cries out suddenly as they get an idea. "Hooligander must be completely right about this test. I wonder if we are even being evaluated on magic here or just on our wizardly refined taste." Ari gives a side glance at Catin, whose summon familiar spell seems to have doomed the little hopes they could have had for the soup. "We need those toasts buttered properly!" Ari stands up and quickly shifts is magical shield, moving it from the flames to Alakassandra. She's the strongest so, all things going wrong, maybe she can just break the barrier in front of them... thought that might melt the butter...
OOC:
This is assuming my previous shield spell is still on. If I need to re-cast it or make it wild, I'll have to re-write a few details :D

The idea is, that if you are inside a shield you are protected from the heat, so you can pass. We all move to the other side with the ingredients and finish the meal. Alakassandra is the test subject :D

"Quesaoadius Foroyiule Nomayule" Ari starts bablling some arcane from their tome and pointing at the flames where he cast shield, then waving his arms around to end in Alakassandra. "whoosh" The spell ends with a big icy bubble surrounding the muscle girl.

"Alaks, my shield spell should protect you from the heat. Maybe you can move through the barrier now?"
Apr 19, 2023 5:38 pm
The huge, burly wizard makes her way towards the shield and tries to step through, now not quite as hot anymore as before.
Apr 19, 2023 6:41 pm
- Alakassandra -

Ari's shield, er shields you from the heat, but you are still pretty hot. The force-field resists your entry, but it feels less adamant now.

Maybe you could bring your temperature down a even further? Or maybe you can just force your way in?

What do you do?

"I think I'll add a bit of magic to your spell, Ari, to further power it up!" Alakassandra tells her ally. She begins a simple chant, pretending to power up the frost spell, then just rams her shoulder into the shield to try and break through.

"Don't feel too bad, I am sure this wizard magic is potent indeed. As is our wizard magic," he adds quickly with emphasis. "Now then, I will cool off my body and test my own theory, as is proper for a, er, proper wizard." He nods to himself. He waves his hands in what he hopes is correct paterns and mumbles, "Arcturio iciclus freeza!" Something didn't go as planned as he waits and nothing happens. "Well, I, uh, guess I may have gotten the word order mixed up!" he says sheepishly.

As soon as Ari pronounces the arcane words like an annoying wizard girl TM, frost patches start to slowly form around the kitchen's furniture as the temperature slowly drops... maybe a bit too much.

I guess temperature is down :D

Frost forms on all surfaces, including yourselves, and your nice fresh-backed bread and plates of nibbles are now in danger of freezerburn.

The sweat on your brow freezes and your skin temperature, and that of your clothing plummets. The line of the force-field is clearly drawn out as a circle in the frost, at least it appears it also keeps out the extreme cold, so it may be more comfortable in there. If you take too long, you may end up too cold to cross the barrier, but, for now, the cold is only a thin layer on the surface and you should be able to push through.

This might be the end. What do you do?

"I'll save the bread!" Alaks exclaims. She picks up all the bread, then tries to light a singe cantrip on her finger to keep it from freezing while she carries it over into the protected area.

Let's try some wizarding for a change.

While the resulting poof of fire may look pretty cool, anyone with any wizarding experience will recognize it for the failed cantrip that it was. Alaks hopes that Ari's antics distracted the judges enough that they didn't notice. Luckily, she didn't fully burn the breads, just crisp them up a little bit, as she tries to now get them through the heat shield.

The frosty covering tingles and peels round to behind you as you pass through the force-field, the condensation drips down the shield in an outline of your shape. Apparently neither hot nor cold passes through and it is pleasantly cool on the inside.

Since Ari covered everything and everyone, everyone can enter the force-field.
Present your work and this first part of your test may be over.
