Khyree Vadis' Character Creation

Apr 12, 2023 2:22 am
We can discuss anything about creating your character here. If you feel confident you can submit a character sheet.
Apr 12, 2023 7:19 am
Going with how I first built her, using stat buy.

Her background is somewhat abbreviated.

She was originally supposed to have been born in the dragonlands of Eberron and helped the crew of an elemental airship discover a mind helm for their ship in a dragon's hoard. She joined the crew, learned to become a navigator, and they went Spelljamming.

Later, she found herself, with partial amnesia on the docks of Sigil.

All or part of this can be omitted. I do find it interesting that she can use navigator's tools and has been on ship, with Admiral's background of having been a pirate.

Her sheet is basically ready. I haven't made any change to the alignment as yet. Are we restricted to Good alignments only?
Apr 12, 2023 10:29 am
Yes. That fact that Khyree and Admiral both know ships will be interesting. I do prefer good alignments. But as long as we ultimately are the good guys as the campaign unfolds you can play a a neutral character. Go ahead an submit your character sheet.

Seck says:

Please, definitely feel free to elaborate more on Khyree's personality and motives!

I was kinda trying to go with your prompt of thinking of Khyree's situation like a twist on Luke Skywalker's, making Grekkor kinda like Old Ben and Yoda mixed into one. I was thinking that Grekkor is the last of the order. He's just searching for the Dragon Amulet which he believes will allow him to locate any "touched by the Dragon," which would include descendants. Of course, with hope beyond hope, he would be happy to find that there are other monks of his order, hidden, who survive on this physical plane, but as far as he knows there are none. This is kinda like fate of the Jedi kinda stuff.

That stuff he said about Khyree being the 'reuniter' can possibly be taken more like reuniting the force of the Dragon to this world, since the order is essentially eradicated. We can go a different direction though if you prefer. I will work any path we cut in to the main story/plot.
I get that Grekkor is an Old Ben/Yoda vibe. That's cool. But, Khyree is not one to sit around and focus her Ki on mystical hooha. She learned the way of the monk and the ascendant dragon to survive in the badlands and grow in strength and power. To prove, that she was as good, or better, than the peoples who abandoned her and rejected her.

If Grekkor is set on this jungle thing to get this amulet, she'll go along mostly as she feels she owes him that much. But, its not something she is going to dwell on and simply wants it to be done. If she had her way of it, she'd head to somewhere not in the jungle, find a city or a ship and go far away from here.

Edit: BTW, my vision of the badlands is more Mad Max Fury Road than an entire movie set in the swamp of Dagobah trying to get the ship out of the muck.

That sounds good. We won't spend too much more time with the details of looking for the circles and stuff then. I'm just using that as a way for Khyree to find her ship and also a way for her to be connected to the overall plot (you'll see). I think it will prove very interesting that Khyree is not a typical monk. That said, the mystical stuff is how monks gain their power. So I will reinforce your lead on how you role play that connection. But I think there must be a connection.

Thank's for helping me understand. I'll get a post up for Khyree by tomorrow!

Oh, she'll do her meditations and martial training.

Yes! As soon as I figure out how. So does that me you can't see anything, or just that you can't post? (I don't know why it's locked)

I found where the lock button is. You should be good. Sorry about that!

With only 6 Ki pts, I am concerned about making an attack.

How many pts would it cost to drop down, make a strafing run of the ships, and then rise up and continue on? More than 6 pts, right? And..how many ships could be caught in the acid line? The three slave ships closest to shore?

Yes. It would take 3 Ki to make a strafing run of the ships. The picture isn't totally to scale, but yes let's say that one 120 ft long/20 foot wide strafing run pass could hit the three ships closest to shore. (Those are the two unmarked ships and the one with the dragon emblem on its sail.)

And then 1Ki to go up 500 ft, 1 more to go up a mile, and 1 more to continue on...so yes a total of six for what you described.

The ship would still be disguised as cloud formations. To those below it would look like a cloud swooping down from the sky.

Khyree can spend her own Ki to control the ship as well. That could give her two more points to work with.

Also I'm thinking that as far as 'recharging' the ship goes, Khyree could pass any amount of her own Ki to the ship's reserve, which could accumulate if it is not used. Also, whenever Khyree spends a long rest attuning to and meditating aboard the ship, the ship gains 1d4 +Khyree's wisdom bonus to its Ki reserve.

Sound okay?

Sounds good to me.

Does Khyree have any idea where she is along the coastline?

There isn't much in the way of towns and cities on the Jungle Coast. Settlements are mostly non-human villages of Yuan Ti (snake-people), centaurs, and some zebrataurs and wemics (who migrated from the Aryptian Savanah). Of the non-human peoples on the Jungle Coast, The Grippli (frog-like humanoids) have the most intricate civilization. It's somewhat feudal and has the most connection to trade with the kingdoms of the northern continent Brun. The Grippli have some cities within the area they consider their kingdom. The Snartan Gnomes, mistrustful to outsiders, also have a society structure that includes city-like areas that are partially underground.

Most of the human population that Khyree would have come in contact with and/or learned about growing up are the separate tribes of humans that live south of the Jungle. Some are more nomadic, others reside in collective village communities. Khyree does know of a caravan route that crosses the northernmost section of the Aryptian Basin, where the city of Balthazar was established as a free trade post between the desert dwellers and the inhabitants of the eastern plains. This part of the Avera desert is home to the Sandlings and to a cult of human dervishes which most likely descended from ancient Nithian mysticism.

Far to the west and north of the Adakkian mountains, Khyree has heard there are kingdoms of humans.

Remember that Grekkor told Khyree these things:
"North to the tree first…Yes. It is closer. You are right. Between us and the tree is jungle inhabited by fierce centaurs, proud wemics, and cunning zebrataurs who fight for dominance. Beyond that are clans of mistrustful Gnomes who stayed behind in the jungle when their kin, millennia ago, built an earthshaker and migrated from the jungle south to the Vulture Peninsula. All are distrustful of outsiders. Beyond the Gnomes it is said that a great curse rests on the jungle that prevents souls from leaving the decaying bodies of once living flesh."

Grekkor would have also related to Khyree during their time together that there are many vast kingdoms and lands filled with cities on the northern continent. Also, she would have no direct knowledge of those lands herself. Grekkor himself spent many years in a monastery near Malphegii Swamp before journeying to the south continent's Jungle Coast in his search.

I added a bit about human kingdoms far to the west in the above post.

OOC:

Can the ship become invisible? Khyree is having a dilemma. She can trust no one. She can't stay aboard the ship forever without food. Given that these cultists, slavers, and evil monks seem to be everywhere and can get aboard whenever they like it seems, she can't leave the ship long enough to do anything.

Let's say that Khyree, during her last long flight up the coast, attuned even more to the ship and now feels the connection is strong enough that she could get off the ship, send it mile (or less) into the sky, and, at will, call it back to the location she left it.

She could send it up and call it back for 1 Ki in the same day. But every day longer she is away from the ship costs another Ki to call it back. So if she were to get off the ship and not call it back for seven days, it would cost 1 Ki to send it away and 6 Ki call it back.

Note: The ship will stay in the guise Khyree last gave it until she expends Ki to change its guise again.

I updated the ship controls thread to reflect this addition.
