Good morning all! I just wanted to make a few announcements. First, I know a lot of games have an introduction, but we don't need to go too in depth here, and only if you want to. I'd love to hear how long you've been playing, what your favorite character has been (in any game), and the most interesting game system you've played.

Second, there's a ton of information in the Setting Info area. You don't need to memorize anything, as most of it won't come up. But I know I love this sort of stuff as a player. There's also more information than you would believe hanging out in my books for this setting. If you want to know something, just ask! If you want to be from a far-off land, we can make that work. If you are interested in a particular type of god, we'll figure something out. You guys are playing level one nobodies, so don't worry about your character knowing the politics for each nation in the next region over.

Third, let's try to keep a balanced party. It would be good to cover the four basic character types (warrior, rogue, wizard, priest), but you'll also have the opportunities to grab some hirelings to supplement your party. You'll also be starting with a magic-user and a cleric NPC in the group, though I won't let them overshadow you and yours.
With that said, hi! I'm Cowleyc and I'm a gaming addict. I've been in the hobby for about twenty years, and really stepped into DMing in the last four. My favorite character has been a robust, bearded pirate named Komar Jalu in a Barbarians of Lemuria game; he spoke in the third person, spent most of the game tending to his magnificient beard/chest hair, and was just generally a lot. As for the interesting game, that would be Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok. The use of rune tiles instead of dice was a cool feature, but I loved the setting and the over-the-top nature of the game. It encouraged you to emulate the wild feats from the old Icelandic epics, such as riding your own thrown spear into battle.

Howdy folks, I'm Dom and I'm an addict (crowd echos: Hi Dom!) I've been at it for 32 years and I can quit anytime I want... I just don't want to ;)

How could I pick just one favorite character/game? Alice and Mal were definitely up there in a playthrough of Village of Hommlett due to the fantastic player and character dynamics of that game, but right now DCC is probably my favorite system although it is a bit fiddly.

Anyone have any preliminary thoughts on what they're going to play? Right off the bat I rolled a pretty solid thief, but with the stat wheel of course he could be anything...

Which role are you primarily interested in? Public

Warrior
Rogue
Wizard
Priest

And here is a quick template I made so you can view your stats. I love the idea of the wheel, but in early hindsight it may be best for a live table where I can cut out props. Just plop your numbers in the top rows.

The class poll only lets you pick one class but I'm equally interested in rogue, wizard and fighter.

Hi all, I'm DED. I started playing RPGs back in the early 80s (Yes, I'm old). It was initially AD&D and then Traveller. After taking a break for about a decade (late high school, college, early 20s living), I got back into gaming, but pretty much only Traveller. I've GM'd the entire time as, with only a couple of exceptions, no one wanted to do the work, and I love it.

I've only been on GP for a month and a half, but it's renewed my interest in gaming and has me looking to try out other games. I recruited a gamer friend as I joined a TinyD6 campaign, something he's always wanted to play but never had the chance.

I'm pretty flexible on which role to play in this campaign. If everyone else has their heart set on playing a particular class, I'll gladly just fill in the gap.

I also want to give you a heads-up on my availability. I'm heading out to pick up my son from college and also have a mini-vacation with my wife. I'll be away from Wednesday, May 3rd through Sunday, May 7th. I might be able to check in from the road, but I can't guarantee it. If I'm slowing everyone else down, feel free to NPC my character to keep things moving along.

Good to meet you DED!

Leaning towards either a gnome or halfling thief...
Apr 24, 2023 10:29 pm
Speaking of gnomes... Do you have description of them somewhere? I see in the sheet drop down that they get darkvision and a good chance to find secret doors but what about class combos/limitations? I assume every race can be a thief as in becmi...

From the Character Creation Guide:
Quote:
Gnomes may be Thieves, Cleric/Thieves, Magic-User/Thieves.
What that doesn't say is that Gnomes can level without limit as a Thief, up to 7th level as a multi-class cleric, and up to 8th level as a multi-class magic-user. Both of these are right around what we're expecting to get to anyways.

Thanks for that, ascending AC or descending?
Apr 24, 2023 10:52 pm
Ascending! Save us all some energy.

Nice. How about speaking the language of burrowing mammals? Strange question I know but since it's in OSE I thought I'd ask ;)
Apr 24, 2023 11:20 pm
Oh, that's absolutely allowed. I'm waffling over if it should require a language slot or not...

Well let me know what the waffles are ready cuz I gots to have it ;)

Hi everyone, especially folks I've not played with before, I'm Harrigan. Yet another ancient RPG entity here, I've been running games since 1983, forty years this fall. Started with AD&D, moved to GURPS and Champions, dove into Fudge, Feng Shui, Underground, heavy Gear... now I run and play loads and loads of different games -- via PbP, with a couple of live groups, at cons, etc. From 1995 to 2019 I played pretty much exclusively via PbeM and PbP, so I'm pretty comfortable in this medium. Was a 'forever GM' for a long long time, but these days I enjoy playing just as much as I enjoy running. These days, I'm a big fan of Free League, the NSR and chunks of the OSR.

I don't have a favorite character or system overall, but in recent years I really enjoyed playing a hotheaded, Aslene sorceress in a Forbidden Lands game, and I have a huge soft spot for games based on The Black Hack, into the Odd, and YZE. I admire but struggle with PbtA, quite like small press / indie games generally, love Fate, and think Mothership is all that and a bag of chips.

For this game, based on my rolls, I'm thinking Human Wizzar or Fighter. What are people thinking so far?

Hey all,
I started being alive in 1990, so I’m not in the game as long as some. I’ve been on here for a few years now, and enjoy it immensely.

I’ll be the first to die. Often by the dice, but sometimes by design. Unless I really love my character, that is. Then, I’ll demand a side quest for my own resurrection!

As for characters… well, I’ve played a lot of stuff. Clerics seem to demand a certain knowledge of lore that I don’t often have, so I might avoid. I could go fighter. That’s always fun, and fairly vanilla so can be stamped upon easily.

But I do so like Halflings. I know they can be fighters, but it hardly seems right.
