Mechanical as it is, your bird-spirit lacks the Wizard senses to pierce the illusions hiding the traps. The mountains are obviously fake to it, but everything else seems real and safe.

It seems it takes magic (of some sort) to locate these traps, unless you can use your familiars eyes and channel your magic through it, you will have to go there yourself and check.

What do you do?

is the channeling a wild or a wizard roll? Remember there is a spirit in there....somewhere

Abby waves her Wand dramatically and mutters "be my eyes little bird" in a dramatic fashion. She connects druidically with the bird spirit, hoping the viewers take it as a spell.

For now the common trope of Wizards seeing through their Familiar's eye disguises your use of Druidic power.

Your familiar is able to plot a route, through the many traps in the grass, up to the closest rock. The rock is probably large enough for two or three of you to stand on and you can't see any way for there to be traps set on the smooth surface on top.

You would need to get close to be sure it is a real rock and not some sort of sad illusion, though.

Leads the others through the route and then stops at the rock. I can continue plotting later, who wants to investigate this rock?

"Leave it to me. I seem to be an expert at discovering things so far!" Hooligander says self-deprecatingly after this last blunder. He approaches the rock and circles around it, taking in all the details.

"Well, I'm not going to get close enough pick it up," Alakassandra says. "What if there's another pit?" She considers it for a moment longer, then says, "But I could try to use a simple Earthquake spell to move it and see if that does anything."

She reaches into one of her pouches and pulls out a handful of glitter, keeping it ready. "Abra..." she says as she takes a moment to gather her strength. Then she jumps and puts all her weight and strength into the landing to shake the Earth. Just as she lands, hopefully strong enough to shake the ground and move all the rocks nearby, she throws the glitter and finishes, "...cadabra!"

The closest rock shakes and shifts slightly towards Hooligander's ankles --possibly causing him to have to jump and avoid it. the near end dips as it reveals another pit below it.

Heavy as this rock appears you would guess that it would have protected you from the pit if any of you had stood upon it. Now, canted over and perched on three sides, it might not be as stable anymore.

The next circle of rocks behaved interestingly, though: One of them shook and shifted a little when the shock-wave passed, but the other three seemed to let it pass without effect and someone watching carefully might have seen dirt, dust and glitter pass right through them.

If the rocks are your safe path, this earthquake has revealed your next step. It is a bit of a jump (hard for some of the more nerdy members, trivial for the more buff) to the next rock if you wish to avoid the probably-trapped ground in between. The first rock is a little above ankle-height, the next more like knee-height, it would have been a tad easier to make the jump from rock to rock, but that might not be true anymore. Later rocks are significantly higher, so this may be more of a factor as the (unknown) game progresses.

Ari looks at Alakassandra once they notice the stone path "Hey! Put that rock back!"
Apr 30, 2023 8:28 am
Alaks definitely doesn't have any way of getting the rock back in this direction, so she instead turns to Ari and says, "How about I just throw - I mean, spellcast - you over there if you don't think you can make the jump?"
Apr 30, 2023 11:12 am
Ari’s face can’t hide all the worries on their mind as they think about alakassandra’s … powerful spells, let’s call it. "I … I guess I didn’t prepare the… fly spell… if you … memorised it… I could use a… hand? Maybe being brave in front of Hooligander wouldn’t hurt… though most likely it will …
Apr 30, 2023 11:20 am
Alaks considers how to best do this, then has an idea. She takes off her pointy wizard hat and speaks a nonsense-incantation over it, then puts it on Ari's head. "I enchanted the hat to give you short-distance flight," she explains. "Now I'll just give you some launching assistance!"

And with that, she picks Ari up, one hand on the back of their collar, the other on their belt. She swings them back and forth a few times and then lets go, hopefully letting Ari fly over to the safe rock.

"Great idea! You'll be safe, brave Ari!" Hooligander cheers after jumping away from the sinking/shifting rock.

Abby commands her mechanical bird to fly her over the short gap Marry Poppins umbrella style. It can't carry her long distances, but this isn't too bad.

Abby calls on her druid craft to give herself the powers of flight temporaryily...Sadly her attempts to hide it.go awry when she actually sprouts feathers and screeches like a mad harpy. her hands curl into talons for a moment before she lands and her attempts to call off he spell before people notice makes her panic, the grass near her landing spot grows particularly thick to catch her. she hasn't done anything visibly to make the grass grow.
As she lands she tries to bush her self off and look calm about it. she opens her mouth to speak and it comes out as a "caw".
Her raven looks at her sadly and caws back.

Ari elegantly lands on the other side of the pit, sliding face down on the grassy patch. After a moment, they managed to stand up, bruised all over their body from the powerful "fly spell" and quickly bow to the audience in the most stage like manner.

Being drawn to Abigail's... show (?) by the cawing, Ari is quick to put their magician skills to good use... again...

You feel the ground around you start to crumble as you land in the grass. The safe stone is close enough that you can hop onto it if you want.

What do you do?

How do the rest of you get across?

Alaks cracks her knuckles. "Anyone else need a fly spell?" she offers. "Otherwise, I'm going to go over there myself now. Doesn't look too difficult."
