Abby jumps out of the way of thr crumbling earth

Everyone makes it across this trapped ground to the safety of the elevated rock and you can take another look around.

The mountains are no closer --thought that is to be expected-- but the audience and the judges are also no further away, you did not see them move, but their pavilion and table might now be in a different place, or on different ground. It appears they will follow you.

There are trees off to one side, and open plain covered with protruding fingers of rock to the other.

Aside from that, it is still not clear what you are expected to do. Maybe working out the task is part of the task? It was last time. You have a moment to talk and strategise amongst yourselves and plan your next move.

What do you do?

"That rock formation looks magical," Alakassandra comments without any knowledge on what she's talking about. "Maybe we should head that way!"
May 5, 2023 7:50 am
Hooligander scratches his chin. "Well anything could be magical. Or diguised to look mundane. We need to figure out the nature of this puzzle. Nature...trees...rocks...can't see the forest for the trees...between a rock and a hard place..." he begins muttering as he mutters his stream of consciousness.
May 5, 2023 8:23 am
"Wait a minute! Did any of you see the stage move?" Ari asks out of nowhere "I think... I think..." They stop as they look around, making sure nothing actually moved. "... We're in a side-scroller! Maybe we need to stomp on the mushrooms!"
OOC:
Sort of futurish setting right! They would know games 🤣

"I think you may be right!" Alakassandra exclaims. "Not about the mushrooms. That's ridiculous. But about something here not being right. If the judges are enchanted to always be the same distance from us, maybe our goal is to reach them." She thinks a moment longer. "Or maybe they're not actually real. Or they're the only real thing in this place. Only one way to find out..."

With that, she gathers all her wizardry power and shoots a ball of Harm at the judges' table, trying to hit something on the desk and maybe move it a little bit. If it's real.
OOC:
This could be a terrible idea. We'll see

Do they smell alive? Abby wonders. She reaches out as both a druid and a vampire trying to sense life. Digging her fingers into the dirt as she does so, while trying to disguise it as still having trouble getting her footing

- Abby -

The judges and the audience seem to be quite real to both your druid and vampire sense. You can hear and smell the 'juices' slashing around inside them in much more detail that would be needed for an illusion.

They gasp as you 'almost fall from the rock' to the dangerous ground below.

Alakassandra's spell bursts from her fingers but fades after less than a meter in the air. Luckily, it's not even quite clear what spell she was trying to cast, because otherwise, it would definitely have looked like she was trying to attack the judges. She clears her throat and then bows, as if everything had gone according to plan.

The judges look down, scribble something on their notepads, then look back at the contestants expectantly.
May 5, 2023 7:41 pm
Real she says hopefully only loud enough for her friends to hear.
May 5, 2023 11:57 pm
"Well it was a good attempt. Now then, perhaps we simply have to make it to the trees or rocks without touching the ground. Did you ever play 'the floor is lava' game as kids? We just need some way to bypass walking on the ground. Say, stepping stones or flight." He rubs his goatee in thought.

"Maybe you can use your magic to break some stone fingers" Ari tells Alakassandra pointing to the open plain, wondering if that too, will be out of reach. They nod as Abigail confirms everyone is real and decides to jump to the next stone to test if the floor is lava like Hooligander suggested. After all, he was the one who figured out the last room

maybe not really, but sure he really did! 🥰

"I can definitely try," Alaks agrees. "I just need to make it all the way over there. Unless..." She looks down at the rock they're all standing on, the one that got moved by her 'Earthquake spell' earlier. "Everyone, get off the rock. I'll use a... Rock Missile spell in order to use it and destroy one of the rock fingers." She then turns to Ari. "But I'm going to need my wizard's hat back. I stored some extra mana in there for really powerful spellcasting!"

Is that how it works? Alaks isn't sure, but it definitely sounds wizard-y.
May 11, 2023 4:49 pm
After retrieving her (allegedly) magic-power-storing hat, Alaks jumps back towards the previous rock and picks it up. She taps her hat, hoping it'll look like channeling magic power, then announces: "Go, rock missile spell!"

And with that, she throws the rock at the rock fingers that Ari pointed out.

- Alakassandra -

The judges nod approval of your use of magic, and jot down a note on their pads. One of can be seen mouthing 'rock missile spell?' to her colleague, but they shrug and accept it for now.

As your missile strikes the fingers and one of them folds back and down there is a rumble from deep below ground. That definitely did something... but whether good or bad you can not tell.

Your boots start to smoke from where you are standing on the unsafe ground. Was this bit safe before, is it getting worse?

What do you do?

"All of you!" Alakassandra shouts. "Follow Ari. I'm going to throw the next stone. We need to get the fingers into a fist!"

That makes sense, right? She shrugs to herself. Making sense isn't as fun as throwing rocks. But it would be a good bonus.

Nods and follows Ari

"I've got it! It's like those carnival games where you throw balls to knock down milk bottles! Knock all the rocks down!" he says, pretending as if he isn't just taking Alakassandra's idea and just slightly repackaging it. Thankfully he has just the "spell" for this: a wand of mage hand that shoots out a punching boxing glove. He secretly slips the wand into his sleeve while waving magically as a distraction. "Mage hand!" he says, activating the wand.

"He put a boxing glove on Mage Hand?" One of the judges asks their neighbor. "Yes. That's unconventional." "Someone to watch I wager." They return to their notes without comment to you.

Describe what your punching wand does to the stone fingers.
