What's Happened?
Even if all the details don’t align, a majority of survivors would agree that it all began with a virus. Opinions differ as to the origin of the disease, but that it started spreading at the turn of the decade around the early 2010s is accepted by most. During the months leading up to the authorities’ public acknowledgment of the virus, the warning signs had started to show. Cases of people with flu-like symptoms having violently attacked others were reported from all over the globe, and at an accelerating rate. By the time a pandemic was declared, the new reality was already common knowledge: Dead people were coming back to life, their minds blank except for a burning desire to devour the living.

Widespread chaos and panic ensued – hospitals quickly became overwhelmed; people abandoned their jobs to lock themselves in bunkers, or seek refuge outside the cities, leading to a swift breakdown in public services; there was mass hoarding and looting of survival essentials, soon followed by escalating violence and rioting. Most city areas saw massive gridlocks form as a result of people fleeing from danger, gridlocks that became permanent as vehicles were abandoned.

Governments, law enforcement, and the military tried to bring order to chaos in various ways; in some places they managed to establish safe zones – barricaded camps for civilians.
Beginning two weeks after the world began going to h***-and-a-handbasket a group of individuals in the northwestern corner of Arkansas / southwestern corner of Missouri have gathered together to try to make sense of the world and where it is going.

In this game, the characters will have to deal with trying to survive in a world gone crazy.... One of the biggest questions to be answered will be how does an individual keep their humanity in a world where humans are becoming an endangered species? Do they or do they become less than human?

This means that some adult topics might be discussed in the game - drugs, self-harm or allusions to sexual themes could all come up, though the specific extent of those depends on what the players decide to focus on. Before starting the game, I will make sure to discuss with the players what topics they are comfortable with and establish boundaries in order to make sure nobody is made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe. This game is explicitly friendly to LGBT and any other minorities or marginalized groups.
Content Warnings for topics that are part of this adventure and will come up are: Body Horror (not the player characters), Pregnancy/Childbirth (not the player characters), Violence/Death, Animal Abuse
I would love to find four or five folks looking to explore this world and help build a new chapter in The Walking Dead Universe. The starting point and situation for the characters will be developed by player discussion to set the Where and Why's of their starting situation...

On average I'd like to keep it to three to four posts per week on average. This is something I myself had had difficulty with at times, so I understand if it doesn't hit that. But I want to keep that in mind.

I'll be glad to answer any questios, etc. here or in PM...

It's new, right? Are the rules online? I was wondering about the game mechanics: attributes, skills, task resolution, etc.

I think I have the bandwidth for it as I'm expecting my character to die in the CoC game I'm in really soon.

So far, only the playtest document has been sent out to backers (unless I missed something). In my TWD game, I'm just sharing the relevant passages with the players.

I'd like to give this a go. No idea of a character yet.

I'm down to try something new.

Bowl of spinach covered the basic, but to expand..

If you are familiar with any of the games using the Year Zero Engine, you have a feel for TWDU :) I’m going to be posting some basic info in the next day or so, and I am very sure that myself and anyone else will be happy to indoctrinate er…. Help you with the YZE system.

At the base, it’s 4 attributes, 12 skills (3 for each attribute) and the rank (1-5) of those together (along with some other additions like gear, stress) determine a dice pool where try to roll as many 6’s as can. :)

I know nothing about Year Zero Engine, but I watched TWD series through the Negan War, watched the first two years of Fear TWD, and read volume 1 of the comic book compendium, so I understand the game background. Haven't had the privilege of visiting the Ozarks though.

Ok, that game-mechanics-in-a-nutshell explanation works. I'm willing to give it a go. And yes, I realize that my character will likely die pretty quickly. ;)

Watched all the way through all 11 seasons of TWD, and now on Season 4 of Fear TWD, and even enjoyed the first season of World Beyond.

I’ll make more rule detail posts to help clarify things and make it easy to understand. Nice thing about the system is that it’s very open and easy to understand. :) Plus, there’s the SRD for the overall system here. :)

Thanks for the link! I'll take a look at it and work on becoming familiar with the system.

Thanks for the invite, Knighthawke, but between the games I've just started up running and the ones I'm already in, I think I'll have to decline this one, as tempting as it is.

Not a problem. :) I know how it is to GM and not get to play a game. Figured would make the offer. :)

Also, still looking for one or two other survivors still. :)

I'd like to join the survival efforts if possible. Don't know anything about the game, but I know twd.
