First let's see what everyone wants to play. Give your top choice for Roles before diving in too far.

I want to be the Occultist role.

Magician is quite a weird idea for a subclass.
Is it really pulling bunny's out of hats?

I am going to be the Occultist
Her name is Madame Felicia Parker and she is a Gypsy Fortuneteller and Occultist who specializes in the Occult and reading Arcane texts and anything having to do with ghouls, ghosts, and anything supernatural in their ilk.

So I think we can move forward here. We might have a fourth join, but we can work them in later. So, right now there are no overlaps. Amber seems settled, and the other two have each expressed interest in non-competing Roles, so just make your final decisions and we can move onto weaving the Circle together.

To address your question @Ledosero , yes it does imply a stage magician of some kind in that role, and a Vaudeville style act would fit that role. You get to choose one of the two abilities under Specialty to start with. Misdirection would imply a Sleight Of Hand style, no-real-magic magician, but you could have actual real powers if you go with The Prestige. So it's up to you if you pick the Face. The Slink/Criminal could also be fun though, just up to you on what you want to play.

That being said, and this is for everyone, you can make these your own a bit. Let's not go too crazy, but we can expand upon the character some.

Once you've settled on the Role, you can introduce your character and we will decide if/how they know each other, and what they know about the organization Candela Obscura.

I have two guiding lights to put out at this point that I want give you.

First, Candela Obscura is a secretive organization and works to keep all the weird shit contained. Your character should at least be okay with that if not enthusiastic. My take is they fear another societal collapse from uncontrolled Magick.

Second, remember the Illumination Keys (middle column, bottom lines) on your sheet as you develop your character’s personality. These are an important way you gain experience points and advance after each investigation. Your character should seek to do one or more of those on each case.

Awesome. Btw my gear as an Occultist is going to be Arcane Texts, Bleed detector and Occult supplies. Those will be on my character sheet

And my illumination keys for Occultist are Consult Arcane Texts, Collect Oddities and Act Bizzare. That's for the Weird role too.

From the actual play on Critical Role, you don't actually pick any gear to start. You can just claim you had it in your stash during the case as it is needed. So while the Bleed Detector is very likely to be needed at some point in almost every investigation, you don't always have to be the one to carry it.

The idea seems to be to let your characters have what they truly need in the moment...up to three times. And once you claim an item from your list, it's available to you for the duration (unless you like throw it away for some reason).

Ok. Well I already placed it on my character sheet so they are things I always have.

I overlooked it before but her is an Obscura Character Sheet for this site. If you want to use it go for it, or you can just use what you have. It's not that important.

I posted the same sheet in they other thread, but I made a couple changes to the rolls at the bottom. Runekyndig hadn't updated some text when he copied they logic for the bottom Intuition rolls is all.

In the end it isn't mandatory to use any particular sheet since we are using the pregen character sheets for stats and such, but it is fun to have the formatting and quick buttons. Looking forward to seeing more character ideas.

Alice Mist

Daughter of The Great Master (Sebastian) Mist, a great escape artist who had mastered the ability to teleport, which he taught to Alice.
During one stunt, her father vanished from this cabinet of blades... and never returned. He has been missing for years. There was no body in the cabinet, punctured with swords. So he did vanish. But to where?
Alice had always been enthralled by her father's tricks. And she loves to put up a show. Less dangerous, but more special effects. For special effects, smoke, light effects and mirrors are great. Still, it is hard if everyone knows you're a child of one of the best, who even has a mysterious story going on. True magick would be the solution to be better. And it might help her find out what haappened to her father

Question: When creating a character do I use the 'custom' option and then look for Candela Obscura? or is there a different way to import the character sheet?

Yeah, it's not super important, but there is that sheet to use. The main thing is just translating the sheet from the pdf to this site so we can track stats and marks and drives and such.

Madame Felicia Parker is a Gypsy Fortuneteller Occultist whose interest into the Occult and seeing what is in the spiritual veil as well as her research into the Arcane and dangerous artifacts have made her an immense help as a consultant for Candela Obscura who she has worked for in the past. She owns her only Fortuneteller business called "Beyond the Veil" which is also her home. She will do whatever she can to help find these things that go bump in the night and try to eliminate them as well as try to solve any supernatural problems too. When a dear friend of hers becomes corrupted and destroyed by a sinister ghoulish force, she decides to use all of her energy to find out how to stop these creatures once and for all as well as to try and protect those who cannot protect themselves with her special abilities.

That's my backstory for her.

Okay, so I've posted your Lightkeeper. Madame Josephine Hart. She runs a casino/brothel in Red Lamp, Newfaire's arts district and current hub of debauchery and revelry.

We still have one character to be introduced to, but just to keep the ball rolling, we can move on to interpersonal connections. At the very least, I need you to describe how you know Madame Hart. I've specifically designed her with ideas in mind, which may be obvious from her bio, but I'll let you all decide for your character how they know her. If you want my input I am happy to share what I was thinking.

Additionally, I'd like you to pitch ideas of how your character knows the other characters. This doesn't have to be deep, amd it could be as simple as your recognize each other as The Drunk Vicar regulars.

I think Madame Felicia Parker would know Professor Bartholomew as a dear old friend. He used to come to her to ask for her thoughts on Visitors from other worlds and she would tell him "They are from the Spiritual Veil which opens into our world during bewitching hour and the Veil opens up more during certain times of the years like the Autumn Solstice and All Hallows Eve." But they would talk about that and how people are blind and ignorant when it comes to anything that will give them the chills and shivers down their spines and share in a good drink of strawberry wine.

The others she would know from the Drunk Vicar and if they ever came to visit her establishment, she would engage with them there too.

As for Ms Josephine Hart, Madame Felicia worked with her and Naomi of the Candela Obscura organization as a consultant in one of their last cases where she was to help them in solving the mystery of the cursed monkey paw and why it cursed anyone in posession of it when they made the wishes. Anything Arcane and occult in nature she is happy to help out with.

I’ll be able to get Laura’s backstory up tonight. In the meantime;

- I’m not sure Laura would know Felecia, being a firm disbeliever in the paranormal wouldn’t lend well to them interacting.
- She might know Alice from having to break up a few drunken fights at her shows.
- Laura would know Otto, he may have been one of the criminals she turns a blind eye to for a few coin. Given they both have dependants she may even give him a bribe discount.
- For the professor, I’d imagine Laura has shuffled him and his slightly more untoward ilk away from the public eye a few times.
- and finally Madame Hart, aside from providing security for her bar after a lucrative deal with the night watch she was involved the rather odd crime scene that Laura stumbled into which caused her paranormal denying to come under strain.

I like this a lot! I can see Madame Parker trying to gently get the Professor to come around and see these are NOT aliens- but the Professor being stubborn and thinking he knew everything! He finally realizes after all those years that she was right!

I can imagine Laura would pull him out of some potentially deadly situations where he ran his mouth a bit too long! Or when he needed to get someplace away from the public eye quickly. Great!

Alice came to the Vicar a few times to perform on stage. As naive as she was she believed she could do some magic tricks there. Realizing only later that the Vicar services were generally of a different kind. Still, her tricks on stage were quite appreciated and occassionally she gives the patrons a bit of a magic show.

Madame Felicia Parker
One of Alice's big dreams is to learn true magick, besides the one true trick she already knows. And someone like Felicia might be just the way to get there. Alice has Felicia in her sight as a potential mentor.

Otto Mann
Alice doesn't really know him all that well. But she has seen this man talking to her father in the past.

Emilio Bartolomeo
Alice might have read some articles about life on other planets. She is not sure if such things are real, but she does find it interesting to read about.

Laura
Agreed. With Alice performing at a stage in a place like this, some people might have wrong ideas about her. Alice is very grateful for people like Laura.
