For Queen and Country is a Mutants & Masterminds 3rd edition campaign set in Victorian England (at least at the outset), c. 1885. These are original heroes, even though the pictures show various DC and Marvel heroes (it's difficult to find a good Victorian superhero picture that isn't one of the known ones). All characters will start at PL8 and no game-breaking powers, please. Yes, it is entirely possible to legally create a character that can tear down a game at only PL8. Please don't. If in doubt, ask. PL limits will be strictly applied! Think Mystery Men or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen rather than Super-Friends or Avengers.
I have Hero Lab and will be happy to help anyone who needs assistance in designing their character. If you prefer to do it yourself, but don't have access to the books, there is always the Hero SRD. Again, I am prepared to offer any assistance that I can. If you are using the SRD, PL8 gives you 120 character points to work with.
The campaign is set in Victorian England and as such, while all skills are available, the Technology skill is the tech of the period, not modern technology. If you want to play a gadgeteer-type, that's fine, but remember that microchips, miniaturization, and similar things do not yet exist (and no, you cannot invent them). Vehicles refer to wagons, ships, coaches, and airships (and possibly steam-powered vehicles), and Athletics is used for horseback riding. The setting is a little more steampunky than the actual Victorian period.
I am aware that in the Victorian Era, women and minorities were second-class citizens, but we are exercising artistic license here. Female characters and minority heroes will be as well-accepted as their white male counterparts. Certainly, there may be hold-outs who still insist that they are "lesser" people, but by and large, society treats them as more or less equals. That being said, heroes are relatively new to the scene and most, regardless of race or gender, are regarded with some degree of suspicion and distrust.
Realistically, I am shooting for 2 to 3 moves per week. In general, I will respond as fast as the players do, but there will be times when I may be slightly delayed, especially over the next few weeks, as my wife is recovering from hip surgery, leaving me to handle the household while she is down. Those of you who know me know that she is also blind, which just increases my responsibilities. If there will be an extended absence, I will let you know ahead of time.
It should go without saying, especially here on GP, but in case it needs to be said, this game is LGBQT+ friendly. That isn't to say that your character can't be opposed to such, but the player should be tolerant of others, regardless of beliefs, race, or sexual orientation. When in doubt, follow Wheaton's rule: Don't Be a Dick!
One more thing: though you will be agents of the Crown, you need not be British. You can be of any nationality you desire. You are brought together in service to the Queen, but you may be of mixed nationalities. Remember that languages are a thing. Each language is an advantage, costing 1 point. It would behoove you to know at least two (your native tongue and English). If you speak a language, you are also assumed to be literate in such (though you may decide otherwise, if desired).
Invites have been sent out to everyone who expressed interest, but I am making a general recruitment post here in case anyone missed it.
