Anyone with open homebrew 5E games?

Hi, I'm curious if there is a 5e homebrew/custom story game on here that is accepting or if someone might make one. Or even know where I might find one (that actually happens in the end). I love these types of games and I have a character I'm wanting to use in one.

My pcs can get detailed/involved/kind of strange and, beyond that, I find modules more combat oriented than I like (at least when I have tried them irl, could be wrong and it just my small experience).

5e is what I'm most experienced with and it is kind of what my brain works on. I've tried westmarch style and can't say I like it. I know chances might be slim, but hey, no harm in asking!

If anyone starts another round of, "Keys from the Golden Vault," try to join in. It's an avoid combat module

What's the character concept you're wanting to play? That might help people propose/find appropriate games.

I"m slowly putting a world/game together. Don't expect any time soon. Surely will be 5e based.

This is true! I'm hoping to play a pc that is entirely an oddity as the fae often play with the living and unborn children. These people are often strange mishmashes of races, or have some distinct difference and can often have no visible connection with the race of their parent. They are rare, and different groups handle it in thier own way - killed as infants, servitude/slavery, treated normally, outcast but left alone etc. This pc would be one of those that made it to adult hood and not enslaved, but isn't exactly welcome everywhere. Appearance and uniqueness would have to be discussed with the gm involved, but I do have thoughts on that. They would be socially awkward, practical, and good inclined but mostly neutral in acceptance of 'social reality'. Largely awkward, cute bean.

Oh nice! I'll have to keep an eye for it when you have it ready.

Hi, I am new to GP, but not PbP or GMing in PbP and I have a few ideas and your character sounds intriguing.

My first question is, how strongly inclined are you to want 5e? I find that the system itself leans toward combat and given the nature of PbP, I often find it frustratingly slow to play. In my humble opinion, freeform or narrative-first-rpgs (e.g. Cortex and PbtA systems) tend to allow PCs to explore the story in fun and often unique ways.

My second question is how grand would you want this game to be? Do you want to save the world or loot dungeons (both?)? Do you want to delve into politics, religion, economics, or exploration?

As for me, I have a lot of experience in 5e, 3.5, PF2e, PbtA, Cortex, freeform, and I have even homebrewed a couple systems.

Honestly, I only prefer 5e as it is what I know. I'm not the fastest learner of new systems (there is still tons in 5e I am still learning after years), but I'm good to try almost anything if you don't care about teaching me and if I ask the same question multiple times (has happened, sometimes even just me checking I have it right). If the rules are too vague, I'm usually confused as to limits. I can, in general, be super creative on my own but if I'm told 'you can do magic, have fun' that is waaaay too big a ballpark and very subjective. I once used earth bind to pull a creature up out of a hole instead of down from the sky (dm was very flexible if you could logically argue it), so I do enjoy being able to be super creative. Just with some kind of rule set. Magic systems often have rules, strain on the body, etc. But a lot of that can also be filled out in world building.

I lean much more to exploring (encountering different places/peoples/beliefs/history), solving weird mysteries (historical things are great, like weird artifacts show up, but also more 'normal' mysteries), save the world type plots (not even quite the world, but the general idea of a big bad).

I don't mind politics, religion debates, etc in general but them being the main focus can be rough for me. These things are naturally involved in everything but, with me, the entire thing being about them is either boring or so out of my depth I'm just confused.

Scale wise it can be big or small. One area/section of the world or all of it. We can be known for what is happening or we can fly under the radar. I think that would entirely depend on the ideas you have.

I'd be good to try something with a group (what I know) or attempt a solo game (never played one, but I asked about it and it does seem interesting). I'm fairly new to pbp in general, but not rp or even text rp (that one was years ago though), so I'm not super aware the limits of the medium via certain systems yet.

If you're still interested, I'd love to see if we can do something :)

I have created a thread: The Misfits.

Let me know if this still interests you or if some aspect of the write-up doesn't align with your thoughts. I did create with your character in mind, so I want to be sure that it fits what you are looking for :)
