Aiwë prepares herself to begin a war song about the giants. At a sign from her friends, she shifts tactics.

"Oh?" She is visibly surprised. "You want a mom song? Okay!" She pauses. She has written many songs that feature her mother, but only one of them is a mom song.

It's a lullaby sort of song, a gentle slow sort of song. Aiwë doesn't really think it fits the giants' vibe, and it shows.

One of the hill giants interrupts Aiwe's performance. "That not Mum's song!"

The other one stomps hard on the ground. "Not that one. NOT THAT ONE!!!" His yell makes every bone in Aiwe's body buzz.

The first points at the young bard. "You sing it right, or we break head and take gold!"

Aiwë freezes, then changes gears quickly, choosing a NOT-about-moms song that a mom might sing about food. Yeah. That feels right.

Hairtooth shoulders slump and his great head nods along to the song, while Gnarl's eyes droop and he starts smacking his lips.

They seem entirely caught up in the tune.
OOC:
What do you guys do? Journey on past them while Aiwe sings? Attack them while they're vulnerable? Or wait for her to finish and see what happens next? Something else?

"Um...Lord Silvershield...since we're under your charge, how would you like us to proceed? Use the distraction to...take them out or get through safely?" She grimaces, not liking the consequences of either option.

Aldous doesn't seem taken aback at being asked for orders. His ginger eyebrows come together to form a 'V' as he considers the situation. "I can't in good conscience leave these giants here to continue terrorizing the road. No, by the laws of the land they have forfeited their lives."

Having reached a decision, he seems to relax. "We must fight. And against a pair of giants, I imagine you'll need all the help you can get." He grunts and reaches for his cane, then slides out of the carriage. His other hand grips a slender wand.

Stella nods. "Take cover behind a thick tree..." she recommends. "As Ajantis mentioned, giants are often surprisingly accurate with thrown boulders...and unsurprisingly deadly."

Stella takes the reigns of the horses of those untrained in mounted combat and leads them over to the trees to tie them in place. They'd be able to get behind the trees, hopefully, but wouldn't be able to run off when the fighting started.

They wouldn't have time to move the carriage without drawing the giant's attention, she reasoned.

Taking cover behind a tree, she pulls out her tome, whispers a few words and taps out a simplified constellation of the Lady of Mystery into the air. The stars shine, then swirl towards each other into nothingness. In a moment, a plume of misty fog, like a nebula, blossoms from just above the giants, consuming their heads, but leaving their lower bodies visible, the fog ending shortly above Aiwë's head.

(Stella casts Fog Cloud when combat begins)

The giants are surprised this round! So basically everybody gets a free turn :D

Since you guys had a chance to move around a bit before the fight started, don't worry about how close the giants are to you for this round. You start where you want!

I nod in agreement to Aldous's words. "The giants have brought this retribution on themselves. Lets get justice for those that may have lost their lives on this road."
I communicate to Tulco the plan. We're going to be attacking and then be prepared to dodge in case they bring their feet around to kick at us. Lets get them!

Stella focuses and repeats the constellation. It swirls together and the fog expands, further and further, sparkling starlight glittering from within the undulating cloud. Hopefully it'd keep them bumbling about for at least a little while.

Stella is casting Fog Cloud as a 3rd-level spell, rather than 1st.
OOC:
60-foot-radius sphere, high above the ground, such that the bottom of the sphere is about 6 feet above the ground slightly towards us from where the giants are, so they'll be blind unless they duck way down. If I've done my math right, if they're about 15 feet tall, they'll need to move about 40 feet towards us to get their head out of the sphere while standing up, or 20 feet if they run away from us. Might not be worth a 3rd-level slot, but I don't have any 3rd-level spells, so might as well give it a shot, haha.
"Get the near one first!" She shouts. They'd have a better chance if they focused on taking one down at a time.

She moves from her tree to another, in case they hurl something at the sound of her voice. Stars stream from the fog and infuse her body, skin turning into the night sky, joints, eyes, mouth, and bow lighting up before she loses a radiant arrow.

Stary Form: Archer

She fires at the nearest giant's legs, but the shooting stardust arrow gets sucked into the fog like a fish in a whirlpool. Stella's confusion deepens when a tendril of fog shoots out from where the arrow was sucked in and streams towards her. When it hits her, she feels her spiritual connection to primal forces rejuvenate. (Spell Attack Fumble: Wild Magic Roll of 60. Stella regains her lowest-level expended spell slot, which happens to be her 3rd level slot she just expended.)

"That was...peculiar," she remarks to herself.

Aiwë's song shift abruptly, the chords becoming jarring and harsh. At a swift bite to the inside of her mouth, blood marks her words and twists at the giants' minds.

Aiwë casts Bane on the giants. They both fail.

"Trying something new!" Sheemish shouts "might want to hide behind something!"

The blacksmith/artificer peaks around the corner of the carriage and raises a gauntleted hand. Infused with splinters of the red mages staff, Sheemish metal fist makes a new sound of grinding noise. Red hot energy eminates from the plated fist followed by a roar of fire and gears. A fireball launches from his fist and easily engulfs the giants.

Sheemish’s grin wavers for a moment as he sees the flame was more show than actual heat.

"Stitch! Help our noble companion!" Sheemish shouts, and a small streak can be seen zipping towards the their new friend.

Both giants fail their dex saves and take 20 fire damage. I still don’t know how bonus actions work, especially with using such a high spell, but Storch can either provide "sanctuary" or just lend a helping hand/advantage, whatever works.

Round 1 Summary

The hill giants are entirely unprepared for the party's sudden assault!

As fog begins to swirl around Gnarl and Hairtooth, Dieter smoothly unleashes a volley of arrows and each one finds its mark. One of the arrows pierces Gnarl's hand, and the giant immediately drops his tree-trunk club onto his own bulbous toes. It's a feat that even Zenithral might appreciate if he were here!

A magical explosion near the giants' heads catches both of them off guard and they flinch away from the biting flames. At the same time, Tulco charges forth with Runeson on his back. Perfectly sharing thoughts and intentions, the pair deliver a hefty blow to Gnarl's chest that leaves the the big guy wheezing.

Aiwe's harsh song bites at the hill giants' dull minds, warping their perceptions of reality as they try to rally themselves.

A crossbow bolt from Ajantis whistles in punch at Gnarl, quickly followed by a swish of Aldous' wand, which conjures a stream of steaming acid across the same giant's shoulder.

Stella's impressive cloud has fully settled into place, cleverly leaving the giants both blind and exposed!

Alrighty, the giants had a devastating first round and couldn't even respond. And now they're heavily debuffed! Each one has disadvantage on attack rolls and a 1d4 penalty to attack rolls, and also grant advantage on attack rolls AGAINST them! They'll be able to act this round, but it may not do them much good XD

Swing round for another assault! But watch out for their feet again! (Tulco uses dodge action.)

I ride back into the fray, leaning low under the fog and thwacking the Gnarls gnarly legs.

Dieter breathes deep and focuses on his technique. The world fades away and he is back home shooting apples off their trees in the orchard. Loosing two arrows in quick succession he empties his lungs settling into a resting position only to be startled by the small booming of fire arrows striking true. He quickly ducks before realizing what he had done. Maybe I relaxed a bit too much on that one. Stella must have snuck those in my quiver.
