Embers from a waning bonfire crackle and drift around an echoing cave, flickering on the jagged walls damp with condensation. You slowly wake, with no memory of who you are or how you got here. Light from the fire dances on a broken sword leaning against the cave wall, and the fire's smoke trails towards an opening to the East, masking the damp scent of the cave.

Vidar stands and takes in his surroundings. He wonders what he has done for the gods to place him here. He picks up the broken sword figuring a damaged weapon is better than no weapon at all. He does not remember who he is but knows being afraid was not something to let stop you. With renewed courage he heads to the opening in the east and looks through seeing if he can find a way out of this strange cave.

OOC:
Stats for Broken Sword: d3 damage, no skills, it takes up 1 inventory slot
Amidst the flickering firelight, Vidar's gaze falls upon a disconcerting sight. Two ragged emaciated forms, resembling men but drained of vitality, stagger languidly from one side of the cave to the other. With withered arms, they strike the jagged walls using ruined sword hilts. Their skin bears the weathered texture of faded leather, and the sharp sound of their hilt striking stone reverberates. Hollow eyes devoid of recognition fixate on him, yet their movements remain devoid of purpose.

The corridor ahead narrows and winds its way Northward. From his current vantage point he can see a tiny sliver of what is around the corner. It appears to be a door.
Aug 15, 2023 1:09 am
Vidar looks to see if he could sneak past them and if not sneak up on one and attack.
Aug 15, 2023 1:27 am
The forms move slowly from one side of the cave to the other without much interest in their surroundings with the exception of the occasional strike against the wall. It would be easy to wait until they are both facing one direction and slip past behind them. Alternatively it would be just as easy to sneak up behind either and strike them without them knowing.
OOC:
Sneaking past the forms does not require a roll. It will be an automatic success. Striking one of the ragged forms from behind will kill it.

Not knowing what might be behind a door, he decides not to leave a potential enemy behind him.
Sneaking up to the closer form, he attacks it from behind. He is the ready to attack the next one hoping that if he works fast enough he will surprise both of them.

He moves stealthily toward the closer of the two ragged forms. The blade arcs downward, finding its mark with a muffled thud. The first form crumples silently, as if it were never truly alive. As his gaze shifts to the second form, he sees it continue its monotonous strikes against the wall, as if it were entirely unaware of the sudden shift in its surroundings. It does not react to or notice Vidar.

Vidar is positioned and ready to strike the second form without any resistance.

From this vantage point, he has a better view of the door at the end this corridor.

Vidar strikes down the next creature and then checks to see if he can find anything useful in the room

Once done with that he will check the door to see if he can discern anything about it.
Aug 16, 2023 10:06 pm
A quick scan of the surroundings reveals little of interest within the corridor itself. It seems this corridor served as a mere passage, devoid of any tangible clues or items of note.

The doors stand imposingly before him. The handles show signs of wear, their surface slightly smoother where hands have grasped them over the years. The textured surface of the doors, weathered by time, gives the impression that they have stood undisturbed for a significant duration.

Vidar carefully and slowly open the door trying to make as little sound as possible.
Aug 17, 2023 12:04 am
The door opens easily and smoothly.

A rush of cold wind greets him, the sound akin to a shriek as it sweeps through the newfound chamber. The vastness of the chamber envelopes him, its ceiling sunken and jagged stalactites hanging precariously above. Gnarled stalagmites rise from the floor, collecting pools of green water that glimmer faintly in the dim light.

There is a shattered crater at the chamber's center. Within this indentation lie broken chunks of stone mingled with shattered, yellowed bones. Across the room is a set of doors (north). To his right is a high ledge (east), and to his left (northwest) is a cramped tunnel.

He remains shrouded in the shadows as he steps into the chamber, the sharp wind carrying the scent of the chamber's dampness. Looking upward to the obscured ledge reveals a hulking silhouette of a stone demon against the backdrop of the chamber's stark beauty. The demon's fiery eyes blaze in the dim light, a stark contrast to the surrounding darkness. It peers down into the cavern. Then it turns and walks away from the ledge.

He enters the cramped tunnel, his senses heightened by the flickering light that guides his path.

The sight that greets him is both haunting and comforting. Another bonfire with flames fed by charred bones. At the heart of the corridor, a rectangular flat stone cradles a wolfskin wrap, an enigma waiting to be unveiled.

There is nothing else here of interest. The corridor is relatively short.

Exits: South leads back to the Stone Demon's cavern. North leads to an open hollow from which dim, echoing sounds of water can be heard.

Vidar overwhelmed by the information sits down at the fire. He remembers fighting to reclaim his throne that his cousin stole by subterfuge. The battle was going as expected and they were storming the great hall. victory was in his grasp as he faced his cousin in one on one combat, when he was again caught offguard when one of his own men stabbed him in the back. Swinging his axe he killed him but he knew the injury was fatal. His cousin laughed at him as the strength left him but he was able with one last bit of effort swinging his axe into his cousin. He then laid back ready to head to Valhalla.

He sits there thinking over these things at the bonfire wondering how he ended up here.
OOC:
After meditation he will head north to see what he can find. Axe in hand he wants to take on the demon but is still unsure of himself after seeing his own death.

The narrow corridor leads into a broad cavern, the expanse of the chamber revealing itself under the curve of a high dome ceiling. The ceiling, adorned with an array of mushrooms and lichen, creates an otherworldly canopy that diffuses the light, casting an ethereal glow over the scene below.

A murky pool sits in the heart of the room. The air carries a pungent smell of dampness and decay. The steady dripping of condensation adds a rhythm to the chamber, as if the very walls exude the essence of water.

In the midst of this damp sanctuary, a dusty skeleton rests against the rough Eastern wall. It's skull lolling with one leg outstretched.

His attention is drawn to the murky pool's enigmatic allure. Its depths seem impossible to gauge, and the slick sides glisten with green algae. Amidst the uncertainty lies a hidden secret—the skeletal fingers of another unfortunate soul, barely visible, clinging to the pool's sides.
Aug 20, 2023 10:46 pm
He checks out the first skeleton and sees if he finds anything.

He the carefully goes for the skeleton by the water. Not trusting the water He keeps his battle axe ready.
Aug 21, 2023 1:35 am
As Vidar investigates the first skeleton, his movements stir an unexpected malevolence within the chamber. The skeletal form springs to life. Its bones creaking and cracking as it begins to stand. The second skeleton begins to emerge from the murky pool behind him, water cascading from its bony form. Both hold ash spears.

He has time to act before either skeleton is standing and ready to attack.
