Pendragon
The Sword Campaign
In the land of Albion, a realm shrouded in mist and myth, the echoes of destiny resounded as a humble boy named Arthur, of unknown lineage, revealed his true calling. The year marked the dawning of his reign, a time when legends fused with reality in a dance that would shape the fate of England for ages to come.
The tale began with the unyielding stone, a mystical artifact embedded in the heart of a forgotten glade. Whispers of a prophecy spread through the realm, telling of a child who would draw the Sword of Kings from the very stone it was entrapped in. And so it was that young Arthur, an orphan squire, stepped forward with uncertain heart to fulfill an ancient promise.
With a surge of determination, Arthur gripped the hilt, his fingers trembling. In a moment that seemed to defy the laws of nature, the sword surrendered to his touch. The land quivered, acknowledging the rightful sovereign, and the boy was crowned King by the mystic forces that guided Albion's destiny.
Yet, the first year of Arthur's reign was far from a serene utopia. The land was divided, with warring factions challenging the newfound ruler's legitimacy. Those who sought power for themselves rose in rebellion, hoping to plunge Albion into chaos. Shadows stretched long and ominous across the land, as the young King grappled with doubt and the weight of a crown he hadn't expected to wear.
In his quest to unite the land, Arthur gathered a band of loyal companions, each possessing their own remarkable abilities.
Will you be one of his loyal knights of the Round Table?
Game System Chaosium just published the latest version of their Pendragon RPG, the 6th ed, as a starter set. I really hope to give this new edition a proper run. If the main set is published, we can expand using that.
Game Duration I will be playing through the published starter campaign in the set, which consists of a series of scenarios. An interesting feature of this game is that it will play through not only a single player character but also their family and legacy. Generational play is part of the game and game time will run a couple of decades. In real time I envisage this to be a long haul game., although we'll pause at various intervals for check-ins. Commit only if you are up for it.
Character Options The starter set comes with 8 pre-generated characters. Players may use one of those as is, modify them, or create their own. The starter set does not come with fully fleshed out character creation rules, but I own all the previous editions and we can extrapolate from there if need be. Players play as knights. (It's not D&D, there aren't mages, priests, rogues etc as classes.) I'd like to have 5-8 players.
Themes High chivalry, romance, glory, honour. This game seeks to create the ambience found out classic Arthurian myths and legends, such as Thomas Malory's version from which the designer Greg Stafford drew his inspiration. Expect more courtly intrigue and social interaction than combat. A key mechanic is that characters are defined by their virtues and vices. So it's not about dungeoneering nor dragon vanquishing.
Specialised Resources I maintain a Discord channel for all my games, for chat purposes and ease of communication. I'd very much like everyone to be part of that as it allows me to get to know everyone better. Everything else with be on Gamers Plane.
Player Experience None expected, we can learn the game together. The 6e rules will be made available to you.
GM Experience I have played and run multiple game systems over the decades, and have been both a player and GM here for six years. Pendragon is one of my soft spots; I don't play it enough! Personal caveat: I run a couple of games here (and intend to continue doing so) so I will end up dividing my time over these few games. I post regularly everyday, but it is often the case not all my games receive daily posts.
How to Apply Speak up here! With sufficient interest I will set up the game proper, and aim for a early September start.
Welcome All This game is explicitly welcomes friends from all groups. The Round Table is for everyone!
