Cunningham nods as Baker relates his professional assessment of their situation. "All I've got is this pistol. Looks the same for Hunter. Odds are against me hitting anything at this range, but maybe we don't have to. Do you think we can send Reed out there without any cover fire? If stealth is the better option, I'll take it. We've lost enough people today."

Do we know what Kowalski's armed with?Sep 18, 2023 9:03 pm
OOC:
[ +- ] Overwatch Rule Summary
As a fast action, you can assume an overwatch position against a specified hex in a line of site. Between now and your next turn, you can fire your weapon once against a target in the target hex. You can fire whenever you want in the round breaking the initiative order.
[ +- ] Combat Example
The target symbol is a 6+ result from a die.
An explosion symbol is a 1 result.
Ammo dice are additional d6 you roll to simulate extra bullets fired as indicated by the weapons ROF (rate of fire). As always 1 bad and 6 good (bullet symbol)
[ +- ] Kowalski’s Weapons
- M4A1 Carbine
- M203 Grendate Launcher
- 40mm Grenades (2x)
- M203 Grendate Launcher
- 40mm Grenades (2x)

OOC:
It’s a crunchy game! I’m trying to only introduce elements as they come up or if questions are asked.
[ +- ] Aiming
Before you fire, you need to spend a fast action to aim at your target. If you don't, your attack counts as a quick shot and suffers a negative modifier:
Pistols, carbines and SMGs get a -1 modifier.
All other ranged weapons get a -2 modifier.
If you do anything else except shoot your weapon after you have aimed, you lose the effect of the aim and you need to spend another fast action to aim again. You can fire repeatedly at the same target without breaking your aim.
[ +- ] Hitting Multiple Enemies
Summary: You can hit secondary targets if they are in the same hex, aren’t more difficult to hit than your primary target, and you’ve rolled additional 6s on your ammo dice.

"Lieutenant Cunningham, take the SAW, I’ve still got my rifle," Baker says to one of the two LTs in what passes for a squad. He also nods at the idea of keeping quiet at first. "I like it, sir — we can provide overwatch in both directions when the Private goes. If one of them makes him, we can call it out and open up. Maybe me and Kowalski on the left, you on the right with the LMG?"
OOC:
So peek out and provide overwatch on the eight troops Normal already saw while Reed sneaks. If he blows it and they spot him (or they spot us), then we open up?Sep 18, 2023 11:58 pm
Tedic bounces on his heels as he squats, nervous as all hell.
"Just give me the signal, I'll be like greased lightning!"
Once the signal is give, Tedic goes for a low sprint off towards the humvee, hopping in through the passenger door and scrambling into the driver's seat. Then, he takes a U-turn back towards the rest of the group so that they can board.

"Sounds like a plan, Sergeant." He takes the SAW and lies prone, facing the enemy to the east (#7). Once everyone is in position, Cunningham says, "Go!"

While Reed goes, Baker peeks out to aim his rifle and provide overwatch on #1, which he quietly calls out to Kowalski.Sep 19, 2023 1:52 am
OOC:
This is how I understand the positions of everyone as the action starts. We can make corrections later if need be.- Reed is going to drive the Humvee right next to the group.
- Sheepdog overwatching enemy number 1 to the east.
- Cunningham overwatching enemy number 7 to the west.
- Hunter is next to the vehicle keeping the boy calm.
- Kowalski is faded into the background because we haven't heard from knighthawke.
Upon reaching the group, the soviet soldier positioned to the east (number 1) suddenly becomes aware of the moved vehicle and begins to shout.
OOC:
Because he's in overwatch, Sheepdog can open fire before 1 finishes his sentence. He can also use this action to run to the Humvee. There's no ranged attack penalty because it's a short distance with the M21, and I'm assuming he's aiming.
OOC:
Because he's also in overwatch, Cunningham can open fire on 7 before he reaches the van. He can also instead use this action to run to the Humvee.I count the distance to 7 as medium range, so -1 modifier for shooting.

OOC:
Rolling initiative for everyone. Lowest number goes first. You can describe your turn before your initiative order, but I won't resolve the actions until it's your turn.
Because Sheepdog and Cunningham are waiting and expecting for the combatants, they can take a bonus turn before the initiative takes effect.
Rolls
Hunter initiative - (1d1000)
(129) = 129

Turns play out in this order:1. Sheepdog and Cunningham (because of overwatch)
2. Hunter
3. Reed
4. Cunningham
5. Sheepdog
6. Enemy NPCs
Reed can delay his turn until after Sheepdog. I'm assuming they'll all load up and then Reed will drive away.
Sep 19, 2023 2:30 am
Cunningham takes advantage of Reed's success to get into the humvee.
OOC:
It looks like if we do this right, we can hit the road before the enemy can get get a turn in.Sep 19, 2023 3:38 am
OOC:
Looks to me like Sheepdog can fire in the surprise round, then get in the Humvee and be ready to roll by swapping initiatives with Reed. Yeah? There's not formally a 'delay' is there, RAW?Sep 19, 2023 3:50 am

There's not formally a 'delay' is there, RAW?[ +- ] Initiative Swap
During a fight, you can exchange your initiative card - and thus your initiative - with another willing player character or NPC, whose turn has not yet come up in the current round. This must be declared on your turn, before you perform any action. You and the other player character must be able to speak to each other (even if only by radio) to exchange initiatives.

"Lieutenant," Master Sergeant Baker says to Lt. Hunter when the Russians begin yelling and scrambling, "now's the time!"
Drawing a bead on the man shouting and pointing at the Humvee, Sheepdog opens up with his .308, trying to silence the soldier.
Not 100% sure, but I think that's two successes, for 3+1 = 4 damage. And a crit since the rifle's crit rating is 3. 5 rounds are spent. Yeah?

Chase nods to Baker. "10-4. Move! Move! Move!" She keeps a firm grip on the Polish boy's arm, guiding him with her as they scramble into the Humvee!

His rounds strike the soldier's chest with brutal force, easily breaking ribs upon impact. The soldier manages to cling to life, although his injuries are severe.

Hunter leads the boy urgently as they scramble into the Humvee. Remarkably, the boy offers no resistance, a testament to Chase's prior efforts in soothing his fears.
