Welcome to the game @Stalker05 !

Hello! Can anyone explain what skill level is? I can't make head or tail about it. It says that based on the attribute score you get a base chance which can be doubled to consider for the respective skill roll. Then there is Skill level, but I don't understand it. Do you add points to raise skill level or is it fixed with the base chance? It says you get access to 6 skills from your profession list. So, in the end is it like if you choose a skill skill then you are trained with it and thus roll under double the base chance value and if you are not you roll under base chance attribute value?

I think you’ve just about got it. It’s my understanding that if you’re trained in a skill you use "2xBase Chance and roll under". If untrained in the skill "Base Chance of attribute and roll Under". So I think the skill level is 2xBase Chance number. And this goes up with training and XP advancement.

But I’m not 100% sure.

TLDR: Skill level = base chance for unskilled rolls. Skull level = 2x Base Chance + Training for skilled rolls

And it’s 6 skills plus your age modifier to start.

I get the 2xBase chance, but what is this + Training for skilled rolls?

Well hello there stranger, I'm playing a dwarven bard.

I think I finally understand how skills work. When you start the game, you have a number of skills that you are trained in. Skills that you have trained will increase your base chance multiplied by 2 (Base chance level x 2) and skills that you are untrained in will only have a base chance based on the attribute (no multiplication by 2). However, during game, if you rolled a 1 or 20 (Dragon or Demon) for any skill roll, you can mark that skill. During time of advancement, you can roll a d20 and if you rolled more than your base chance then you get to add a skill level for that skill which increases the base chance by 1. If you roll lower then no skill level is awarded. This reminds me of BRP skill advancement (Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, etc.). It seems to match because both Dragonbane and BRP have a shared genesis. A skill level can never be higher than 18.

Man, the rules are scattered here and there in the book.

Hello ctme2000, I am playing as a human hunter.

FYI - I just notices that the character sheet that was made list crafting as INT skill but it is a STR skill. Just need to adjust that in your character sheet.

Another note, when I was checking your sheets I was more concerned about skill and such. I noticed only 1 of you mentioned rations in you equipment.

Make sure they are noted also 4 rations =1 encumbrance. Not having food will be an issue as you travel.

Got it. I’ll check those things. Thanks.

Stalker, yeah. That’s my understanding too.

Yes it is very much like BRP in advancement. You can see its influence with the Duck race.

I don’t think that that map is working.
Oct 25, 2023 4:02 am
It is working for me.

It is a spoiler so make sure you click on the plus. This has always worked for me before. If not I will see what I can do.

Still not working for me but I figured out how to follow the link, so that’ll be fine.

How are we doing combat? Do you want everyone to go go who goes before the monsters, then everyone after? Or do you want us to just say what we plan on doing and then you organize the timing of everything and move the monsters?

This is one of the issues with the system. I just got home from work and will be working to get the goblins done soon. I am going to look at what to do while I do that and let everyone know. Though I am willing to take suggestions.

I have been thinking about how to make initiative go and still keep the game moving as not everyone posts with the same frequency and I want the game to keep moving and not get stuck on one person.

I think instead of swapping initiatives we create a "hold action" action. This allows them to defend against an attack that would hit or go after an enemy has done one of its actions.

Also characters can act in any order as long as they are before a npc or monster. They will have to wait until a npc or monster goes if they are higher on the initiative order.

Any questions or comments or ideas let me know as defensive actions are very important in this game and it looks like combat can be deadly.

So, I took 2 damage after damage reduction from armour, right?
