Izuhn readies himself to unwind as much of their sustaining magic as possible, should they make it through Agna's barrier.

Yeah, they're described as evil elementals so I think it applies :D
Winter
Agna managed to use her magic to trap the giant owls deeper in the cave. With the creatures contained Izuhn manages to easily dispel the evil energies animating the elementals.

Upon entering the cave, the tattered group finds it spacious and warm, even the wind seems unable to ruin it. At the back of the cave, a tiny stream flows from a rack in the wall and collects into a pool, which is safe to drink. With the elemental problem solved, the cave looks safe enough to start a fire and rest until the storm ends.

"As good a place to rest as any, eh?" Izuhn walks towards the back of the cave where the water is pooling. "What do you make of this?" He asks the question to the group in general rather than anyone in particular.
Nov 4, 2023 1:07 am
"Water," Agna grunts. "Seems safe to drink."
Nov 4, 2023 1:19 am
Izuhn gives Agna a deadpan look. "I would say that you're right. I suppose I was wondering where it might come from. Somewhere warmer than here."

"Could be that its just warmer in here, not quite enough to freeze. Say I found a body by the nest, frozen solid, they had this ring on them anyone recognize it?"
Nov 4, 2023 10:13 pm
Agna glances at the bauble. "Can't say I do. Might be Helda or her friends know more'n that. They're traders," she adds vaguely.

OOC:
Agna, insightful as ever
As you search the naturally formed cave to find the tiny stream, you notice that it contains a number of tunnels and small empty chambers, most of which quickly become completely dark. From them you hear occasional drips of water and some weird echoes, probably from the other members of the caravan exploring the cave.

As Adaia mentions the possibility of it just being warmed, Nass steps out from one of the tunnels. "Ah yes, I think she would be right, it is much gets pleasantly warmer in the tunnel." she looks back into the fading light of her torch. "I guess we are deeper in the mountains than we would have though. Also..." she stops to look at the ring, not recognizing it, "Maybe some dwarves want to look at this... I think, this tunnel might not be natural. I didn't see the end of it, but the rocks are clearly worked stone half way."

Helda Silverstream
Helda approaches from behind the moment Nass mentions the dwarves, "What yer saying? There's no record of dwarven works in this area. Ye think it might be someone else?" She moves to check the ring. "Difficult to say. Maybe Beorne would know... wait! Dinnae that well dress fella have one as well?"

Ezahne Darmor
As you discuss the tunnels and the ring, Ezahne shows up, trying to keep her breath stable She points to the cave entrance, obviously distraught "The ... the... the guard..."
OOC:
3 things happening at the same time: 1) the ring which Helda suggest checking with the "well dressed person", 2) the artificial tunnel Nass found out, 3) and now the guard Ezahne is worried about. You can totally split, so feel free to pick what your character would be more interested at the moment.

"You," Agna whirls on the red-haired explorer with a deep scowl on her face. "Last thing we need to be doin' is looking fer trouble. Go get yer friends and stay put instead of wanderin'. We got enough to worry about. You want to end up eaten by those?" She jabs a finger at the trapped owls.

With Nass sufficiently cowed, the orc turns her attention to the newcomer. "Talk plainly, lass! What's happened to the guard?"

Adaia will pocket the ring for now, although she'll ponder if she knows the well dressed person and keep an eye out for Beorne.

"What has happened to the guard? I'm getting an awful feeling about coming here." She exclaims. She'll try to get a look at where the lady is pointing to see if she can make anything out.
OOC:
The first roll is for trying to recall the well dressed individual.

"I agree with Agna, lass." Izuhn says to Ezahne. "Don't take it personally, though. Just trying to keep our deadly circumstances limited to one at a time."

"And it looks like the guard got this slot." he says as the group hears the shout.

Nass looks at Agna, surprised by her reaction. At first, it looks like she is going to stand up to the orc, but then she suddenly goes quiet and moody, grabbing her white weasel pet and taking it to the corner of the cave, where she complains mostly to herself that "...it's not safe if someone life there..."

Adaia suddenly realizes that there is only one individual in the caravan that is dressed way too well for an expedition to the north. Godric Orchard, the same human who had to be dragged out of the snow as he refused to leave without his flask. However, she is brought back from her thoughts as Ezahne mumbles incoherently and takes them to the cave entrance. "I. The guard. He was wounded by that beast. I just check if he was... Could find him. I retraced, maybe you know. Wounded was behind. And then then" She stops just outside the caveā€™s mouth, where you find whatā€™s left of Ibrahim. For lack of a better description, he's been torn limb from limb and their component parts arranged in an unusual geometric pattern in the snow. "Was it. The Ogre?"

The only indications of what happened are the tracks of a large creature, a bear perhaps, quickly being erased by the wind-driven snow, making it impossible to track the creature. Whatever it is, it is probably still out there, waiting in the storm.
Nov 10, 2023 1:16 pm
Agna's mouth works in silence as she stares at the torn carcass. Then she swallows her bile and kneels, spreading her hands over the grisly remains of the guard. Her gestures bring no change to what lay before her. Clenching her jaw, the shaman pushes her will into the summoning, drawing forth the spirit of the dead man.

The name hadn't rang a bell to Agna before, but now she realizes who this is. These tattered scraps of meat used to be the same man she'd saved from the wounds. Anger sinks into her like a knife. She'd healed him. In a way, that made his death a failing of her responsibility.

"Listen to me. What do ye remember, Ibrahim?"
she asks the spirit. "Stop and think before answerin' me. What happened during the last five minutes?"
