Lothar looks at Silvergrin for a moment, considering the dwarf's words as he gauges whether the woman behind him is about to attack or cast some spell, and his hand goes to the pommel of his sheathed broadsword. "Aye," he answers, "I've used it a time or two."

Raising his voice slightly, he looks purposefully past Felskrudd to the slender mage in the back. "And who's wee girl? Calm your finger-fires, lass. I'm a friend."

You do not notice any more magical emanating from her.

She stand up straight and looks Lothar right in the eye and says,

I am Elaria.

Browyn nodded at Lothar and added, "Also, she is currently our employer. Well, sort of! She is on a quest for her family heirloom and we have agreed to help, for a price ofcourse."

"Lady and gentlemen," Krisanna begins with a slight flourish. "May I present, Lothar the Firebooded. A finer sword, more stalwart companion, and all around good guy you'll rarely find." And then quickly adds, "Despite the shady looks."

"We have faced some adventures before, and I can vouch for him. And an extra blade wouldn't hurt to get us to Outskirt."

"Well, then it's settled," Felskrudd says and motions the donkey to start walking again. "Enough lollygagging. I prefer to get as far as possible before nightfall."

With Felskrudd comment you all begin to head down into the vale once more, Krisanna and Lothar together and the rest finding a place next to the wagon as you begin your journey down.

Soon the wagon tracks give way to a paved road that cuts through the high grain fields. Countless smells invade your senses: manure, smoke, and rotting vegetables, but also freshly baked bread and grilled meat.

The road leads to a settlement surrounded by a palisade, with lots of small houses with smoking visible beyond its sharpened logs.

The village gate is closed and flanked by two low sturdy towers of stone with crenelations and pointed wooden roofs. Drawing closer, you hear a stern voice of a man barking at you from one of the towers:

halt, Strangers! State your names and business or turn back to the forest - this is a place of peace and decency.

Browyn walked forward and lowered his bow, "We are travellers in need of respite. My name is Browyn Silentstep and I am a hunter. Our party got ambushed by goblins who managed to fell some of our comrades. We need a safe haven and we come in peace. Is there a place where we can rest and eat?"
Jan 16, 2024 1:10 pm
Felskrudd stays silent waiting for the guard to reply to Browyn's explanation.
Jan 17, 2024 12:28 am
I am Elaria, I have come seeking information about the vale.
Jan 17, 2024 12:30 am
The man in the tower says, I have a couple of your names but who else do we have here? I see a few more than that. It would be good to have a name with a face.

Krisanna waves to the guard and smiles brightly. "Hello your Guardship! Krisanna here, travelling along with these fine folks and hoping to find a warm fire, a sturdy roof, and some hearty food after a harrowing trek." She gives a little bow to punctuate her statement.

On the Road

When introduced so formally, Lothar offers an exaggerated bow and a flourish from one of his hands. "At your service!" he offers with a sideways smile before they get going.
At the Gate

"Peace and decency?!" Lothar says with a low chuckle, speaking quietly to Krisanna, next to him. "That's it then. It's the woods for us!"

Then, clearing his throat and spitting before he raises his voice, the well-traveled mercenary calls up to the guards. "Come on, open up! We're good sorts! I'm Lothar, well-known caravan guard, and I'd like to know what village I've journeyed hard to stand before!"
Jan 17, 2024 1:09 pm
"I am Felskrudd Silvergrin, a merchant in good standing," Felskrudd answers. "My caravan was attacked and my wares stolen before I met this fine group."

As the last of you introduce yourselves the gate begins to creak open. Finally it opens enough that the wagon can fit through. Standing in the gate stand a man, looking to be in his 40s wearing studded leather and an open helm. A large shield is on his back as is a crossbow. His hand rests on a broadsword in its scabbard.

The man begins to speak with the same voice as the one you spoke to in the tower.

Welcome to Outskirt. I am Captain Hardy, I lead the defenses here. As long as you remain peaceful, we will not have an issue
This is treacherous lands and this is one of the few safe havens in the Misty Vale. If there is any questions I can answer I will.
Jan 18, 2024 4:12 pm
Browyn walked forward and bowed, "Greetings Captain Hardy, I am Browyn, the guide and hunter of this party. We were traveling when goblins ambushed us. Now, we have some fallen comrades whom we want to perform burials for. I believe Outskirt has a cemetery or a burial ground? We wish to give them an honourable burial; I hope I can request your assistance regarding this?"
Jan 19, 2024 3:07 am
Well , sure we have a graveyard outside of town. It is kind of serve yourself as I hate to say it many leave and never return and even fewer bring bodies back with them. Dranath kind of takes care of it. He lives in a hut near one of the peaks in the town. You will learn quick that this town is built on some type of old ruin. There is speculation to what but it has served well as a place of protection.

The best place to find information and get the lay of the land if you will is the Three Stag Inn, Vagnhild runs it and is the best place to start finding whatever you are looking for.
Jan 19, 2024 4:47 am
Browyn saluted the Captain, "I appreciate all the help Captain Hardy. I dearly need the hospitality of Outskirt. Thank you, for your help." He turned to Silvergrin and others, "Let's visit the cemetery and meet with Dranath. We should give proper burial to our comrades."
Jan 19, 2024 6:07 am
Lothar keeps quiet as they enter the town -- things seem to be going swimmingly, so why open his trap and upset the boat?

When they are clear of the gate, he takes in the sights and then lowers his voice so that Elaria cannot hear as he speaks with Browyn. "Could put him on a pyre too, yeah? My experience in these wilds... you bury something like a body... something else digs it up. But maybe this cemetery is protected."
Jan 19, 2024 1:17 pm
"Let's see what this Dranath fella have to say," Felskrudd nods and motions the donkey to turn. He'd rather be behind the security of the walls until daybreak, but at the same time he want to get rid of the body from the wagon.
Jan 19, 2024 2:05 pm
Browyn nodded at Lothar, "You know, you are absolutely right. I forgot the restless dead. However, one of the body was a companion of Elaria so we might have to ask her permission."
