Into the Mist Vale

The Misty Vale, home to believed of treasure, wealth, and fame. This land was cut off from man as orcs overan the land for many years as a mist hovers the land. The mist is still there but the orcs have retreated and first forays back into the land has begun. A small town has formed in the vale for almost a decade now. Still the land is barely explored and its riches still hidden. Word is out and adventurers have begun to come to seek their fortune.

You are one of those adventures, though as you head towards the vale you hear of great dangers within as well. The tales of bards convince you that it is better to team up as an expedition into the lands than try and go by yourself as you hear the fate of many such loners found dead in the land.

As night approaches, you come to a thriving inn, The Drunken Dragon, at the end of Drakmar pass the way through the Kummer Mountains and into the vale. As you enter the smell of beer and food assault your senses. It is not loud but the hum of conversation is found throughout as you see a variety of races mingling. You can tell some are merchants but many have steel strapped to their sides with the same look of adventure as you.

A bard sits in the corner playing a harp, A box lies at his feet with a few coins inside. A mallard in chain armor sits nearby watching the crowd with a club by his side. A couple of serving girls weave through the tables as a halfling walks up and down behind a bar serving drinks to those who approach.

A small group of men huddle in the corner making plans of some sort at a table. In another corner sits a couple, one wearing armor and the other smaller of stature with their back turned to you with a hood up. A group of merchants sit together talking as you see their guards stand against a wall watching anyone nearing their table.

There is a smattering of a few others wandering around getting food or drink, as they make introductions with each other.
OOC:
Introduce your character by having them enter and initial action. You arrive in order of post. so the first to post is the first of the character to enter and so forth, till all arrive. Once all introductions are made then you can freely interact. Note there are a few more adventures other than yourselfs present.

Down the street comes a donkey carrying an almost empty cart. On the cart sits a lone dwarf in dishelved clothing and a tired look on his face. The cart is otherwise empty, except for a small backpack.

With a grumble the dwarf stops outside the Drunken Dragon. He takes out a slim coin pouch and inspects it carefully. He looks around, trying to find a cheeper alternative. Seeing nothing and listening to the rumble of his stomach he steps off the cart with a sigh.

"Damn useless mercenaries," he mutters to himself as he hitches up the donkey ands surveys the lack of trade goods in the back of the once full cart. Taking the backpack from the cart he heads inside.

He heads immediately to the bar, ignoring all the people for now. "How much for a room and a meal?"
Oct 5, 2023 3:12 am
A young dwarf enters the inn. A n e he pushed the rough the door, he stands to the side to take it all in. He has dark skin and a black beard and hair. His hands are covered in tattoos of a low rank.

He moves into the inn and takes up a position by the bard, listening intently to the singing and watching everyone else in the tavern.
Oct 5, 2023 12:27 pm
A halfling in a hooded cloak steps into the inn next. She looks around before doffing the hood, revealing red hair and wide blue eyes set in an innocent face. She makes her way to the bar and clambers up onto a stool, smiling at the halfling serving drinks. "Give me something stiff, friend," she says with a wink.

The young woman taps her fingers on the bar as she waits for her drink.
Oct 5, 2023 3:49 pm
A young man enters the Drunken Dragon. He looks 17 or 18 years old. The top of his staff is glowing, but he puts his hand on it and the light dies.
His hand rests on the leather grip on the staff, but it does not look comfortable, as if the grip was placed for a person smaller than him.

I trust this inn is free from demons?! He calls out. He heads towards the counter. I'm a mage going to the misty vales, and I will join the next expedition into the vales. He turns to the inn keeper in a lower, normal voice. Do you have bread and cheese for Lothar the fully trained mage?
Oct 7, 2023 2:46 am
Coming in last, an older dwarf steps into the inn, a big, bushy beard and tricorn cap atop his head, with a lyre slung across his back. He looks around the room and smiles at seeing the bard.

Heading over, he drops a coin in the box near his feet, then takes a nearby seat at an empty table, tipping his hand up to catch the eye of a nearby waitress. While waiting, he starts lightly strumming his lyre, trying to match the harp player's rhythm.

Felsrudd catches one of the servant girls with his question. She doesn't miss a beat as she serves when she answers you saying Good sir, It is 5 silver for a shared room and food. Private room will be extra as we are filling up. Just ask up at the bar for a roomkey and pay for your food. Find a seat wherever is open and I will be around shortly, with some hot stew and drink, anything more will be extra. We have mead and beer on tap for the night.

Fermer finds a good spot to watch what is going on. The serving girls are busy and one finally comes over saying, Good evening good sir, what can I get for you tonight. Stew with bread is on the menu tonight but for a bit more I am sure some meat and potatoes could be added.

Krisanna, hops up to the bar and the halfling gives her a friendly smile, Don't see to many of our kind come through these parts. Welcome and make yourself at home., he says as he fills a tankard with mead. He places it down in front of you with his hand on the handle. As he holds onto the tankard he says, As much as I like hospitality, here business comes first. After that I will gladly spend time hearing about your travels and give you the lay of the land.

Lothar comes in the the inn and finds that at first no one notices him. After his announcement a few people chuckle and a few others ignore him. He hears a couple whispers of Freshmeat, or newbie. Still a a few watch him in what you think maybe curiosity of what you may bring to an adventuring party. At the bar the halfling barkeep is just finishing speaking to a female halfling at the bar. he stand unpon a raised step behind the bar and says, to you while holding a tankard in his hand, Well good mage, stew and bread is the meal for the night but I can get you just bread and cheese if you like but I will have to get someone to get a wheel of cheese up from the cellar.

Halwyld, takes his seat and a servant girl comes over as you begin to play, Good evening sir, How may I help you, a hearty stew and bread is the main course of the night but if you want anything special that will be for the cook to decide, we have beer and mead on tap as well though anything more exotic the barkeep will help you.
Oct 9, 2023 1:40 pm
"Guess I'll sleep under the stars then," Felskrudd mutters with a sigh, knowing he has but 3 silver left to his name. Though he do sit down at a table, if only to get some warmth in him while he consider his situation. He looks around the room for his next mark.
Oct 9, 2023 2:17 pm
Fermer is caught tapping his foot to the bard as the waitress approaches. "That stew and bread sounds great to me. " he has a low and warm voice and speaks with a grin on his face and in his eyes. "Thanks. While you're here, has anything interesting been going on around here? Other than the constant flux of adventurers, I mean."

His eyes dance around the room, taking in all the people of similar height to him. When he was below ground, he never thought he'd see so many of his people above ground. And halflings to boot.
Oct 9, 2023 3:06 pm
The influx is the major news. What isn't being said is that it is dangerous to go alone. More than one adventurer has been brought in dead just traveling to the vale. It is best to have a group that has your back.
Still what I have heard of as treasure being found means there is plenty for everyone and worth the risk.

I will be back with your food.
she then wonders off toward the kitchen checking on tables as she goes.
Oct 9, 2023 5:24 pm
"And a goodly evening to you Ms! Your stew and bread sound like just the thing I need in my growling belly. Add a glass of mead with it and there'll be something extra in your purse tonight!" the dwarf exclaims in a jovial and boisterous manner.

He continues to gently strum his lyre, eavesdropping on the nearby conversation Former has with the waitress. As she walks away, he pipes up, "Hail and well-met fellow dwarf! The name is Haywyld. Couldn't help but eavesdrop on your conversation. Are you thinking of heading out to The Misty Vale?"
Oct 9, 2023 5:36 pm
Fermer looks at who hailed him. "Hello, Halwyld. I'm Fermer. It's good to meet you. Yes. I'm thinking of it. Seems... lucrative. Many ways to get gold and glory. And you?"
Oct 9, 2023 6:59 pm
Well if you are offering stew how can I refuse. Thank you!
Lothar looks around in the inn and spots the congration of dwarfs.

Well meet master dwarfs. Did I hear you were going to the Misty Vale?
Oct 9, 2023 8:46 pm
"Don't so much care for the glory, usually ends in someone's death, but I'll fill my purse up with the gold!"

Looking at the newcomer, "Aye, seems like it Lothar the fully trained mage! What's your reason for going to the Vale? Hoping to thwart, or befriend, a demon?"
Oct 10, 2023 6:59 am
Felskrudd's ears perk up as he hears the sound of gold above all the other sounds in the room. "Did I hear your mounting an expedition?" Felskrudd says coming up to them. "I am Felskrudd Silvergrin. I have a donkey and cart with room for all your treasures. For a piece of the profit of course."
Oct 10, 2023 11:14 am
Krisanna sips her mead and listens to the conversation between the mage and the three dwarves. She smiles slyly to herself but remains quiet for now...
Oct 10, 2023 5:13 pm
"I’m Fermer. Nice to meet you both. You heard right. I’m heading up there and Halwyld heard me asking the server some questions about it. She was telling me that it seems like the smart move is to go in a group though."

Fermer looks everyone over, and not getting a feeling of bad omens, continues. "If you’re interested, we could group up. I’m not heading towards any particular goal at the moment. Maybe if we pool our skills and resources, we can make a names for ourselves and some make some gold."
Oct 10, 2023 7:28 pm
The servant girl seeing you all together brings your food and drink to the table you have congregated at by the bar.

Is there anything else i can be getting for you gentlemen?
Oct 13, 2023 11:08 am
Fermer asks the waitress "Yeah, a couple of things before you go. Do you know if anyone is posting any jobs for out there, or is everyone kind of wandering around hoping to stumble onto something? Also, can you tell us anything about any of these other adventurers? I just got here, so I don’t know much about anyone. "
Oct 14, 2023 2:53 am
The waitress looks at your group, Well, most of the adventuring groups formed just like it seems you are doing. An occasional group comes that have been traveling together for a time. The tend to be usually a smaller group but better armed and you can see they have been in a scrap or two. Then you have some like the couple in the corner, they seem to have a different feel to them.

The stories that get mostly told here are of those leaving either because they are scared off or have found enough riches to leave the vale. I am sure you can find plenty of information in Outskirt. That is the town that has cropped up in the vale. It is said to be on ancient site, some say town others say castle or even temple of some sort. whatever it is it is a ruin.

i will throw you guys a rumor of a guy who left here in fear. You may have the stomach for it. There is supposed to be an unholy place in the iron forest. It has stones rising into the sky. he said its name is the Riddermound. supposedly a dark knight was chained there by the gods when the world was young. he said the knight was buried alive along with his family, servant but also his riches. This guy claimed to have found it but said he left in fear of his life and refused to say anymore about it.
Oct 14, 2023 2:04 pm
Halwyld looks over at the corner with the couple, curious about what the server was talking about regarding their feel.
OOC:
anything interesting about those two?
Oct 15, 2023 8:23 pm
As you look over at the two people sitting in the corner. At first glance they seem fairly non-descript. The smaller one has their back to you and has their hood up so you cannot tell who or what they. The bigger of the two is and older human and while eating is also watching the crowd in the room. Their cloths you notice though looking at seem like common cloths you notice do not have any wear on them and without getting closer seem well made. As you watch them the older one looks at you, his eyes catch yours watching him.
Oct 16, 2023 7:35 am
"I must be honest to say I'm not familar in these parts. Would Outskirt be on the way to the Iron Forest?" Felskrudd asks.
Oct 16, 2023 3:24 pm
Outskirts is the only real town in the valley. The road here through the pass leads there.

I haven't been there do I only know what I have been told. I think the forest is to the west of it.
Oct 17, 2023 3:02 am
As the older one locks eyes with Halwyld, he lifts his mug up in greeting, and with a smile takes a swig.

Half listening to the waitresses conversation, "Outskirt seems a good a place as any, lads."
Oct 17, 2023 3:48 am
Fermer thanks the waitress. He sees the man at the other table eyeing them. He turns his face away.

"I’m not sure what you all had in mind. However that location in the Iron Forest is as good of a direction for me to point as any other."
Oct 17, 2023 4:42 pm
The waitress leaves and another swings by with rest of your food and drink.

As you sit and talk, the couple you watched get up and head upstairs to a room. You get the impression the other person maybe female.

As it is getting later in the evening. It seems the merchants are also getting ready to head to bed. The other group who looks to be adventures are still full swing into drinking and gambling.

A few others enter the inn but they seem to be locals.
Oct 18, 2023 11:59 am
Krisanna finishes her drink and approaches the trio of dwarves, smiling up at the taller men. "Couldn't help but overhear your conversation. Thought you might need somebody crafty to join your crew. The name's Krisanna. Krisanna the Bold. I'd be happy to join your party, for a fair share of any loot we might find along the way."
Oct 19, 2023 3:32 am
"Hello Krisanna. I’m Fermer. I can’t speak for the others but I’d be happy to have you. They say that your sort is lucky." Fermer kicks a chair out for Krisanna to join the group.

He watches the other group of adventurers. They seem to be rolling dice, now. If the gambling moves over to cards, he may try to get in. But until then he continues to talk with the group at his table.

When there’s a lag in the conversation Fermer reignites it with "Have any of you been on any big adventures or explorations yet? Let’s hear it."

"I am but a humble merchant. Or I was a couple of days ago. I am afraid I hired the wrong adventurers and bandits got away with all my goods," Felskrudd sighs. "Though my heroic escape was quite adventurous. Though I rarely make the same mistake twice and you all seem quite heroic."
Oct 21, 2023 6:14 pm
The mage that had spoke with you seems ill at ease and after a few more comments about him for the way he introduced himself to the inn. He seems to get red in the face and embarrassed and storms out of the inn slamming the door behind him.

As your group forms things seems to settle in the inn.
OOC:
After Stalker joins your group, i will have you settle in for the night and then head off to the adventure proper.
Oct 21, 2023 7:01 pm
It was dusk when Browyn reached the doors of the Drunken Dragon. He has been wandering all day, making sure that he has taken the right path through the Vale to reach this town. His robes are filled with dust, and with his unkempt hair tucked in the hood, he has seen better days, and for more civilised areas like this, he definitely needs a bath. But the life of a hunter is not for the civilised folks; they belong to the wild, and the wild provides for them and nurtures them. However, the wild is also dangerous and unpredictable at night, and for a lone hunter like him, he needs the safety of a town like this. The warm hearth, a thatched stable for the night, and some warm meals before he sets out again the next day.

Browyn, gently pushed the door open and entered the Drunken Dragon. It was quite late, and he was hoping for a vacant patron gathering. So, he instantly noticed the curious gathering of a trio of dwarves and a halfling. He silently walked towards one of the empty tables and took a seat beside the gathering of dwarves and halfling, waiting for someone to notice him.
Oct 22, 2023 1:58 am
Fermer nods as Felskrudd speaks. As a man settles into the table next to them, Fermer nods in acknowledgement of him as well. Then he refocuses his attention to the table.

"I see… I’m a knight. I was trained at the Citadel, and felt that adventure made for a better form of practice than just running drills once a month like some of the other landed gentry. So here I am. I want to do some good and home my skills at the same time. "
Oct 23, 2023 11:39 am
Krisanna smirks. "Well, I've had a few misadventures. Suffice to say that I've come to the Vale seeking a fresh start. So here's to going on some new adventures together!"
Oct 23, 2023 8:52 pm
Halwyld grins as the party starts to form, "And what of you, newcomer?" talking to the robed figure next to them. "We've lost a wizard's magiks, but perhaps your bow can be a worthy replacement?"

Browyn looked at the Dwarf and smiled when he was questioned. He left his table and came to join the group. "Do I hear a possible company of adventurers planning to go out into Vale? In that case, I, Browyn Silentstep, can provide you with my skills as a guide. I am a hunter, and even though these lands are vast and unknown, I am confident I can guide you through it's perils. As for my bow, if you would give me some spoils of your adventure, it will be yours in aid."
Oct 24, 2023 1:38 pm
"Sounds like a fair trade, and then some." nodding at the hunter.
OOC:
is it evening now? If so, worth taking off now, or waiting til morning?
Oct 24, 2023 4:23 pm
OOC:
It is getting fairly late you will want to wait till morning to head out.

Since the group is together I am going to post later in the day starting you off toward the misty vale. if you want to do anything before let me know.

"I’m sure we’d be glad to have you. It’ll be good to have a someone who knows their way around the wilderness. "
OOC:
Sounds good. I just want to be sure we have whatever supplies we’d need.
Oct 25, 2023 12:08 am
OOC:
You can buy what you like with the money you have. I will assume you got it before the adventure starts and don't forget rations. You can hunt for them but it will slow you down traveling though.
You leave the inn early that morning beginning your trek into the Misty Vale. The odd couple from the night before is missing but the other adventuring party is still present, not really moving as some still sleep off their ale, while others seem blurry-eyed.

The servant girls are quick to provide a simple breakfast and bundle up any provisions that you ordered. You are then off to find your possible fame, glory and riches.

The ancient and narrow pass runs through the mountains like an axe gash. Steep, moss-covered slopes rise to the
snow-laden peaks that can occasionally be glimpsed through the veils of cloud. Somewhere ahead lies the Misty
Vale, the legendary place where the empires of old stored their wealth and magical artifacts.

It is the rumor of these treasures that has brought you here – the vast riches and arcane secrets hidden among
the ruins on the other side of the mountains. And you are not the first to be lured by such temptations. Since the orcs
started leaving the area, about a decade ago, a growing stream of settlers and adventurers have made their way to
the Misty Vale.

But you know the way is treacherous and fraught with peril. The old imperial roads have crumbled and the mountains are teeming with danger. The Drakmar Pass, where you now find yourself, is particularly infamous. The dwarves of the Kummer Mountains have warned that the humans’ return has attracted brigands and ravenous beasts to the area.

Your fears come true when you suddenly hear a disconcerting cry. You see a figure kneeling in the middle of the rocky trail, only twenty or so meters ahead of you. The figure is one of the two of the couple from the day before. Their back is to you as they hold a staff in their hand and sack or bundle lies at their feet. That is not all that lies there as the other larger person lies at their feet.

The green dot is where the person is.

You can choose your color, first come first serve.

The arrow is the donkey and the square the cart, Felskrudd is the black dot on the cart.

Each square is two meters.

Browyn was happy to join the new group of adventurers and eager to set out for the Misty Vale. He ordered 3 field rations from the servant girls depositing 3 silvers in their hands while packing up his belongings before setting out.

As the other members of the company came, he waited for the party to prepare themselves and then set out for the Vale. It was a curious and alarming sight when he saw the body ahead. He held up his hand to signal others to stop. It might be a danger, or it might be someone in dire need of help. Whatever it was, he needed to take a closer look. He squinted his eyes and looked at the surroundings, trying to determine if there was anything out of place.

OOC: Buying 3 field rations with 3 silver. Also, I am attempting an Awareness check to see what's ahead. Brown dot for me.

With one hand on the reins still, he fishes out a sling with his other hand. Better safe than sorry, he thinks.

However, his eyes didn't deceive him, and he was prepared for what was going to happen. The goblin that Browyn fires at tries to dodge but fails taking the arrow in the chest and collapses.

Each other remaining goblins fires an arrow at each one of you except Krisana who apparently has not been spotted yet.

The one facing Fermer is trying to hit him with a shortsword. but misses.

One fires at the maiden, who looks like she was going to possibly cast a spell but dodges the attack stopping her attack.

The one firing at Felskrudd arrow aim was true (will be a hit unless dodged).

The one firing at Halwyld was well off his aim and goes wide.

Finally, one fires at Browyn and aims well enough to hit him in the arm (2 points after armor).

The maiden dodged so she has gone.
Felskrudd can try to dodge or take the hit and attack or any other action.

Krisanna stabs the goblin in front of her, causing it to recoil but instead of trying to dodge it he strikes back at her but misses. Another goblins charges forward at Krisanna seeing her take down one of his own also swinging at her but also missing.

One goblin takes a swing at the maiden and she is just able to parry the blow with her staff.

The goblin takes a swing at Fermer but cannot connect as well. The goblin riding the warg runs up to Fermer jumping towards him and swing his serrated sword hitting him solidly (4 points after armor).

These goblins are nefarious, but they will have to be more disciplined if they think that they will hit me. Still, it was a close call. As Browyn peeked over the rocky cover behind which he remained, he saw Krisanna the halfling, being ganged up by two of these devious goblins. He took aim and shot the least injured one.

Browyn left his cover from the boulder as the battle finally ended with the fall of the Warg and it's rider. He surveyed the battlefield and slowly proceeded to meet with others who were in the company. Visibly shaken from the encounter, colour was draining out of his face. He trudged on and came to meet the survivors while investigating the dead.

"That was quite a fight. I wasn't expecting goblin raiders so close to the town. Maybe we better keep on our toes." He looked at the woman and said, "Greetings, my lady. Indeed, like my friend here, I want to inquire about what you were doing in the wilderness (he turned to look at the dead companion this woman previously had). She looks over at her companion and then at the party, you can tell that she is trying put her thoughts together.

Oh my name is Elaria, I was coming to investigate a statue that has been in my family. We heard that we could find out more about it here. There is someone in outskirt we were told by a merchant that they could help tell me more about it. We were heading to find the lady he told us about. We were ambushed here just before you arrived.
Jan 2, 2024 6:58 am
Browyn scratched his chin in deep thought. "A statue, M'lady? Some kind of family heirloom? We can help you reach the person you are looking for or the place you are searching, but these are dangerous lands. You better have someone to guide you. We were going through this region anyway. Maybe we can escort you. What do you say?" He looked back at his companions for their opinions.
Jan 2, 2024 10:27 am
Felskrudd shrugs. "There's room on the wagon if you're tired," he says moving over to calm down the donkey and makes sure the wagon hasn't taken any damage.
Jan 3, 2024 4:08 pm
Thank you, I would appreciate the help.
Yes. It is a family heirloom. It was taken out of the misty vale many generations ago while the dragon empire still stood.

If it is not to much, can we bring my companion along, I would like to see if I can get him a proper burial in Outskirt.

I have a map of the area. It was given to me by a person who knew a little about the statue like it was divided into four parts. The base which I have is even on the map as well as the other parts.
OOC:
I put the pdf of the map in world information so you can access it.
Searching around you do not find anything valuable. The goblin armor and equipment is roughly made. Most likely if anything you might get scrap price if anything for it.

The only thing of use is their arrows (12). Still not great but usable.
Jan 5, 2024 5:47 am
Browyn looked at the map and scratched his chin. "This sure is a detailed map, M'lady, and I guess it will help us navigate Misty Vale with greater clarity. We definitely won't keep your companion lying down here; do you have a cloak or something? We need to umm....cover the body and place it in the cart."

He turned to Felskrudd, "I think we can carry the body on the cart, right? What do you think Master Silvergrin?" He then turned to Elaria, "So, after we bury your companion, where will we go next?"

Browyn continued to collect the arrows as he conversed with Elaria.

You continue to travel down the pass and it begins to widen into the vale. The mist covers the land filtering the sun and making it overcast and in some area you see fog where visibility would be an issue.

Still as you head down you see a person further down the road sitting on a downed tree eating. As you approach he notices you and rises, you can tell he seems wary but still quite not make him out.

Jan 14, 2024 5:02 am
Krisanna's eyes narrow as the caravan approaches the man seated by the roadside, and then suddenly open wide in incredulity. "Well I'll be flogged," she says half to herself before bursting into a hearty peal of laughter much too large for her diminutive size. "Keep an eye on this one, boys," she calls out, loud enough to reach the man's ears. "I've seen some shady characters in my day, and this one looks about as shady as they come. Still remember Svalberg?" And with that she tosses one of her knives in a low arc towards the man.
OOC:
Lothar may recall a scuffle the two got into in that miserable excuse for a town where things were going south in a hurry. Krisanna had been wounded in her good arm and Lothar was staring down the business end of a mage's staff mid-spellcast - too far away to reach with his blade. In the moments before the spell went off, she tossed him one of her throwing knives with her off-hand, which he duly caught mid-flight and threw in a single motion, catching the mage in the shoulder and disrupting the spell.
Jan 14, 2024 6:46 am
Still chewing a mouthful of apple, Lothar the Fireblooded is barely able to smirk and wink with his one good eye before the redhead on the road guffaws and hurls a throwing knife at him. But he shows no alarm -- rather he catches that blade in the most practiced of manners, then pivots and throws it straight into a tree in one fluid motion.

Then, wiping a bit of juice from his stubbled jaw with the back of his hand, the rough-hewn man -- clearly a fighter, a sell-sword or the like -- nods, swallows, and calls out his own greeting.

"Ahoy! If it ain't Krisanna the Bold! I remember Svalberg all right," he says with a grin as he moves to first retrieve the knife, then greet the group. "'An Holvikstad besides! How could I forget?"

The scruffy man with the shaved head wears mail, a well-used wooden shield on his back, and a sword on his hip he looks comfortable with. He is traveling lightly, carrying only a leather pack beyond that, and he holds the dagger out grip first as he offers it to the woman, along with an appraising and appreciative look.

"You've been well, then, I trust?" he asks.
OOC:
Love it! And thanks for the intro, GM. Quick question -- what's dangerous in these parts that might have set Lothar back, perhaps ate the rest of his party?

Browyn watched the exchange between the rogue and the weathered, hardened man; their flavorful camaraderie proving their past acquaintance. He moved forward and greeted the man, "Greetings traveller, I believe you know Krisanna. We are on our way to the settlement of Outskirt. Unfortunately we got ambushed by a band of goblin raiders. The fight was bloody and we lost few comrades. It seems you are alone here. Your stance speaks of your confidence and capabilities but the Misty Vale is far too dangerous for a lone man. My name is Browyn Silentstep and I am guiding our party through these lands. If you don't mind, perhaps you can join us as we move to Outskirt to give a burial to our fallen"

OOC: Giant spiders can be a good choice for wiping your party.
Jan 14, 2024 7:39 am
"Well met, Browyn, I be Lothar," the newcomer says with a nod. "And aye, we know one another, we two. Thick as, you know, thieves, at one point. And so happens now that I'm without, ah, gainful employment. Happy to lend my sword to your cause for a share and all that."

Lothar also nods at the other woman, and the dwarf, before he cranes his neck a bit, trying to see who or what's in the cart.
Jan 14, 2024 3:23 pm
The dwarf grumbles as he contemplates splitting the income further. "I'm Felskrudd Silvergrin," the dwarf finally says. "I reckon you know how to swing that sword?"
Jan 14, 2024 3:50 pm
As Lothar and the others greet he spots an what looks like an attractive young woman who kind of stands back behind the rest of the group watching you carefully but also an eye on the group. You don't know if it was just some daylight breaking through but it looked like flame danced across her fingers on one hand.
OOC:
gaint spider would work, or a group of orcs.
Jan 15, 2024 12:32 am
Lothar looks at Silvergrin for a moment, considering the dwarf's words as he gauges whether the woman behind him is about to attack or cast some spell, and his hand goes to the pommel of his sheathed broadsword. "Aye," he answers, "I've used it a time or two."

Raising his voice slightly, he looks purposefully past Felskrudd to the slender mage in the back. "And who's wee girl? Calm your finger-fires, lass. I'm a friend."
Jan 15, 2024 5:43 am
You do not notice any more magical emanating from her.

She stand up straight and looks Lothar right in the eye and says,

I am Elaria.
Jan 15, 2024 6:09 am

"Lady and gentlemen," Krisanna begins with a slight flourish. "May I present, Lothar the Firebooded. A finer sword, more stalwart companion, and all around good guy you'll rarely find." And then quickly adds, "Despite the shady looks."

"We have faced some adventures before, and I can vouch for him. And an extra blade wouldn't hurt to get us to Outskirt."
Jan 15, 2024 12:41 pm
"Well, then it's settled," Felskrudd says and motions the donkey to start walking again. "Enough lollygagging. I prefer to get as far as possible before nightfall."
Jan 16, 2024 4:09 am
With Felskrudd comment you all begin to head down into the vale once more, Krisanna and Lothar together and the rest finding a place next to the wagon as you begin your journey down.

Soon the wagon tracks give way to a paved road that cuts through the high grain fields. Countless smells invade your senses: manure, smoke, and rotting vegetables, but also freshly baked bread and grilled meat.

The road leads to a settlement surrounded by a palisade, with lots of small houses with smoking visible beyond its sharpened logs.

The village gate is closed and flanked by two low sturdy towers of stone with crenelations and pointed wooden roofs. Drawing closer, you hear a stern voice of a man barking at you from one of the towers:

halt, Strangers! State your names and business or turn back to the forest - this is a place of peace and decency.
Jan 16, 2024 5:45 am
Browyn walked forward and lowered his bow, "We are travellers in need of respite. My name is Browyn Silentstep and I am a hunter. Our party got ambushed by goblins who managed to fell some of our comrades. We need a safe haven and we come in peace. Is there a place where we can rest and eat?"
Jan 16, 2024 1:10 pm
Felskrudd stays silent waiting for the guard to reply to Browyn's explanation.
Jan 17, 2024 12:28 am
I am Elaria, I have come seeking information about the vale.
Jan 17, 2024 12:30 am
The man in the tower says, I have a couple of your names but who else do we have here? I see a few more than that. It would be good to have a name with a face.
Jan 17, 2024 7:19 am
Krisanna waves to the guard and smiles brightly. "Hello your Guardship! Krisanna here, travelling along with these fine folks and hoping to find a warm fire, a sturdy roof, and some hearty food after a harrowing trek." She gives a little bow to punctuate her statement.
Jan 17, 2024 7:47 am
On the Road

When introduced so formally, Lothar offers an exaggerated bow and a flourish from one of his hands. "At your service!" he offers with a sideways smile before they get going.
At the Gate

"Peace and decency?!" Lothar says with a low chuckle, speaking quietly to Krisanna, next to him. "That's it then. It's the woods for us!"

Then, clearing his throat and spitting before he raises his voice, the well-traveled mercenary calls up to the guards. "Come on, open up! We're good sorts! I'm Lothar, well-known caravan guard, and I'd like to know what village I've journeyed hard to stand before!"
Jan 17, 2024 1:09 pm
"I am Felskrudd Silvergrin, a merchant in good standing," Felskrudd answers. "My caravan was attacked and my wares stolen before I met this fine group."
Jan 18, 2024 2:42 am
As the last of you introduce yourselves the gate begins to creak open. Finally it opens enough that the wagon can fit through. Standing in the gate stand a man, looking to be in his 40s wearing studded leather and an open helm. A large shield is on his back as is a crossbow. His hand rests on a broadsword in its scabbard.

The man begins to speak with the same voice as the one you spoke to in the tower.

Welcome to Outskirt. I am Captain Hardy, I lead the defenses here. As long as you remain peaceful, we will not have an issue
This is treacherous lands and this is one of the few safe havens in the Misty Vale. If there is any questions I can answer I will.
Jan 18, 2024 4:12 pm
Browyn walked forward and bowed, "Greetings Captain Hardy, I am Browyn, the guide and hunter of this party. We were traveling when goblins ambushed us. Now, we have some fallen comrades whom we want to perform burials for. I believe Outskirt has a cemetery or a burial ground? We wish to give them an honourable burial; I hope I can request your assistance regarding this?"
Jan 19, 2024 3:07 am
Well , sure we have a graveyard outside of town. It is kind of serve yourself as I hate to say it many leave and never return and even fewer bring bodies back with them. Dranath kind of takes care of it. He lives in a hut near one of the peaks in the town. You will learn quick that this town is built on some type of old ruin. There is speculation to what but it has served well as a place of protection.

The best place to find information and get the lay of the land if you will is the Three Stag Inn, Vagnhild runs it and is the best place to start finding whatever you are looking for.
Jan 19, 2024 4:47 am
Browyn saluted the Captain, "I appreciate all the help Captain Hardy. I dearly need the hospitality of Outskirt. Thank you, for your help." He turned to Silvergrin and others, "Let's visit the cemetery and meet with Dranath. We should give proper burial to our comrades."
Jan 19, 2024 6:07 am
Lothar keeps quiet as they enter the town -- things seem to be going swimmingly, so why open his trap and upset the boat?

When they are clear of the gate, he takes in the sights and then lowers his voice so that Elaria cannot hear as he speaks with Browyn. "Could put him on a pyre too, yeah? My experience in these wilds... you bury something like a body... something else digs it up. But maybe this cemetery is protected."
Jan 19, 2024 1:17 pm
"Let's see what this Dranath fella have to say," Felskrudd nods and motions the donkey to turn. He'd rather be behind the security of the walls until daybreak, but at the same time he want to get rid of the body from the wagon.
Jan 19, 2024 2:05 pm
Browyn nodded at Lothar, "You know, you are absolutely right. I forgot the restless dead. However, one of the body was a companion of Elaria so we might have to ask her permission."
Jan 20, 2024 3:57 am
You enter the safety of the town and you hear the gate close behind you. As you look around you see new construction of buildings but also see evidence of a much older as well like the town was built on top of something much older.
Jan 20, 2024 12:32 pm
Quietly, so that only Lothar can hear her, Krisanna whispers, "What if we cut off his head? Isn't that s'posed to work to keep them from rising? Or pack his throat with coarse salt?" She takes a few more steps before continuing. "Or am I thinking of a brined goose? Ohh, that does sound good, I'm famished."

"Good call on both counts, gentlemen," she calls out chipperly. "I don't put much stock in that old superstition about starting one's adventures in a new town in the graveyard anyway."
Jan 21, 2024 1:32 am
OOC:
In world information I posted the map of Outskirt. You came in the southern entrance.
As you being to go further into the town hardy calls out, The Inn is the largest building in town to the north and Dranath lives in a hut on top of the hill/ruin in the middle of town.

You continue walking and silently chatting though you see Elaria start to watch those of you who are whispering.
Jan 22, 2024 2:35 pm
Browyn noticed Elaria watching and turned towards her, "M'Lady, we are wondering how you would like to bury your companion. In case of the other ones, we are pondering whether to burn the bodies so that they can't rise up by evil magics. What say you?"

He continued to walk towards Dranath's hut in the hopes of reaching the cemetery before nightfall.
Jan 23, 2024 7:42 am
"Burn in a respectful manner mind you," Felskrudd quickly adds. "Though you don't have to make a decision yet, you might want to think on it. I know it is a grizzly thought so soon after, and if you rather we choose we will try to be as resepectful as possible. But it ain't right not letting you in on the discussion.""
Jan 23, 2024 7:49 am
Krisanna says:
"What if we cut off his head?"
"Well, then we'll be damned sure he's dead!" Lothar says with a chuckle to his old... friend? Rival? What were they, exactly?

When Silentstep and Silvergrin speak with the young, on-edge mage, the broad-shouldered man nods. "Aye. A pyre would be good. Or if you have the coin, some stone crypt would work and, you know, keep the dead quiet. Restful."
Jan 24, 2024 4:35 am
Elyria listens a bit of shock in her face.

After a moment though you can see she is contemplating something. She gets a determined look and replies,

where I am from we bury our dead, but I see your point as I am far from home in a dangerous place.

Since we are now in the remains of the dragon kingdom, it was not uncommon to have a funeral pyre. I guess I will have to learn many new things and customs. If you really feel it would be best as I want him to truly rest in peace
Jan 25, 2024 7:50 am
Krisanna looks sympathetically at Elaria, feeling the depths of her loss. "I know everyone's customs are different. But if its any consolation at all, where i'm from, they say the pyre lights the way, and the smoke guides the spirits of the departed to their final resting place." She walks on in the quiet of her own thoughts, her typically jovial face a little clouded, then adds, "It's never easy saying goodbye."
Jan 26, 2024 3:26 am
Lothar is no soft touch, not in the best of times, but he knows well enough to follow Krisanna's lead when the woman turns somber.

"Who was he?" he asks Elaria, still eyeing the streets around them and the looming ruins as they head for Dranath's hut.
Jan 28, 2024 2:08 am
He was one of my father's ... men. He was my bodyguard since I was a little girl and a friend. He always said that one of my adventures would kill him. I guess he was right.

and on that you reach the top the ruin and see a simple dwelling with a grass roof and walls of stacked granite. A connecting garden is surrounded by a low fence. Herbal-smelling smoke billows out of an opening in the roof.
[ +- ] Dranath
An old man comes out of the hut withered with age. Greeting, what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Need healing or a potion of love or some other strange request.
Jan 28, 2024 6:17 am
Browyn was quite taken aback at the haggard appearance of the person, "Umm, we have come here to lay our fallen companions to rest. We would like to cremate them."

ooc: Damn! This guy looks like an undead.
Jan 28, 2024 10:11 am
Krisanna barely stifles a gasp at the sight of the man - seemingly himself somewhere in the indeterminate region between life and death. To Lothar, very quietly, she whispers, "Appropriate or creepy?"
Jan 28, 2024 7:16 pm
Let me guess, Hardy sent you.

I kinda oversee the cemetery. I am a simple healer and no priest. You are more than welcome to use the cemetery to cremate your friends. If you bury the remains leave a marker so we know where they lay.
Jan 29, 2024 3:30 am
"The latter, certainly the latter," Lothar says lowly to his companion.

When the wretched bag of skin and bones in front of them mentions Hardy, the bald, scarred warrior lifts an eyebrow. "Should the good captain have steered us otherwise, good sir?"
Jan 29, 2024 12:17 pm
Felskrudd has a rare moment of speechlessness upon seeing the creepy healer, and stands by watching the conversation.
Jan 30, 2024 2:58 am
he scratches his head and says, I guess not. Most people here just make do, we don't really have a town government at least officially. Hardy runs the militia and well everything else is kind of overseen by the tavernkeep. Things started small but we have had an influx shall we say of a variety of sorts. Most are just trying to start over away from past lives and the rest well they are trying to make their fortune. We haven't been here long enough to be "established" , he says using air quotes.
Jan 30, 2024 11:42 am
Felskrudd is finally able to compose himself. "Well, looks like a perfect little place to set up shop," Felskrudd muses. "Once I have the funds that is."

He turns his attention to the Dranath and motions for the cart. "We do have the misfortune of needing the cemetery," he says. "I don't know where we landed on cremation versus burying. Perhaps you could tell us if grave robbers or the restless dead is... well... a recurring issue."
Jan 31, 2024 4:24 am
Looking above them, to the ruins and craggy spires rising above the town, Lothan nods to himself as they await that answer.
Jan 31, 2024 4:09 pm
Not that I am aware of but this is a strange place with lots of mysteries. We did have a grave robber but he was dealt with.
Jan 31, 2024 4:47 pm
Browyn watched the exchange and then just shook his head, "Lets burn the bodies and bury the ashes."
Feb 2, 2024 5:10 am
That seems for the best. Let's get it over with. , she says sadly.

You follow the direction you were given and find the graveyard. It looks peaceful surrounded by trees. You would mistake it as a meadow except for gravemarkers.

You collect wood enough to burn the bodies. Elyria takes special care to arrange her friend.

When all is set she says, stand back. I will light the pyre. she concentrates and fire forms around her hand. The she opens her eyes and a ball of fire flies firth and into the pyre causing it to burst into flame with tremendous heat.
Feb 2, 2024 6:01 am
Behind Elaria's back, as the orange flames rise and smoke starts billowing, Lothar yawns and looks to Krisanna and the others.

"I need a drink," the man mutters lowly.
Feb 2, 2024 8:45 am
Browyn looked at the burning pyre for sometime and then turned to Elaria, "I understand your loss, M'Lady but there is always a time for someone to leave this world. He might have said those things to you, but I am sure he never regretted defending you. Your life was probably his foremost priority. We can only honour him by praising his valour and his deeds rather than his choice and fate. He is probably at peace knowing that you are alright now."
Feb 2, 2024 10:48 am
"And that your mission and work continue," Krisanna adds. "The best way to honour the fallen, I think, is to complete the task they set out to do." She reaches up and gives Elaria's arm a compassionate squeeze, then heads back to join Lothar, her demeanor completely changing as she approaches him.

"You're buying the first round," she says with a wink and a crooked smile.

Felskrudd stands in silence at the funeral pyre, though he does perk up at the mention of drinks. "Yes, let's see what this place can offer."
Feb 4, 2024 4:14 am
You enter back into town through the south gate and it opens while you come to it. hardy gives you a wave as you pass through.

instead of going up onto the ruin you travel the eastern side of the town until you come to the village square. The inn, the smithy, and the shop all face an open space where a weathered statue rises from the earth. It is a strange relic from a bygone era, which seems to depict a warrior in antiquated armor.

What calls to you right now is an impressive two-story building with a massive, thatched roof and half timbered walls. Outside the door hangs a red sign that says, "The three Stags- beer, bed, and food at heavenly prices." cheery voices spill out onto the street, along with the smell of roasted boar.
OOC:
Everyone make a myth's and legends roll.

You then can proceed into whatever establishment that you prefer.
Feb 4, 2024 4:22 am
Browyn came to clearing and eyed the statue for sometime before looking around all the shops. He had been hungry and parched for quite sometime and the smell of roasted boar renewed his hunger in many ways. Before entering the Three Stags he eyed the statue again. Wasn't Elaria saying something about a statue before the journey to Outskirt started?

Ooc: OMG! That's a Demon! My first critical failure, but I can mark that skill right?

Krisanna breathes deep the enticing smells coming from the tavern even as her eyes swing past the ruined statue. She seemed to recall a mention of something like that but the lure of food, drink and merriment is too great resist and her eyes and mind return to the tavern and its festive cacophony.

Paying not much mind to the statue of the other buildings surrounding the town square, Lothar makes straight for The Three Stags.

"Smell that? Hear that?" he asks his companions. "That's what we need. A warm hearth, good food and song!"

Felskrudd's stomach rumbles audibly as he can smell the food. He hardly pays attention to anything except the invititng sound of pleasant company and the smell of a decent meal.

Rolls

You all head toward the inn and the promise of food and drink within. You notice that Elaria stops for a second and looks at the statue but quickly follows you into the tavern.

As you enter a large common room you look around ans see about 6 villagers sitting and eating by the large fireplace. As you enter a strong authoritarian looking woman greets you cheerfully. she has greying hair that is kept in bulky braids, she has a think leather apron on over her cloths and a warhammer hangs off her belt.

Welcome to the three stags, I was told we had some newcomers in town, grab a seat. Give me a moment and I will treat you all to a mug of mead on the house.

and with that she head back towards the bar.

Also in the room are a few more patrons sitting opposite sides of the room. On one side you see a female knight, her shield sits at her side but her plate armor gleams in the light of the tavern. She eats her meal slowly casting suspicious glances to the other group in the inn. On the other side you see a rough looking mallard and a group of brutish looking humans. They are being slightly loud and seems to have more than a few drinks in them. they give you not so friendly glances as you make your way to a table.
Feb 7, 2024 5:58 am
Browyn dusted his cloak and garb before entering the inn. He smiled and nodded at the woman who seemed to be the tavern keeper, "Thank you for the offer. We are grateful." He then eyed the patrons and chose an empty table to sit at. He waited for the mead to arrive and his companions to take their seats.
Feb 7, 2024 7:11 am
Lothar is first in line for a free mug of mead. As they all quaff their drinks and take in the sights, he gestures with his head towards the knight, and the boisterous men

"Curious," he says about the armored woman, followed up by, "Well. They'll be trouble, eventually," regarding the mallard and the men.

"I've had enought trouble for a lifetime," Felskrudd sighs. "Let's hope that they'll be content staying out of our way if we offer them the same courtesy."
Feb 8, 2024 4:15 pm
After you received your free mead from the owner shortly after the barmaid of indeterminate age with long blond hair, kind green eyes and deep dimples that you have seen running around comes over to you. Though she looks like she is a bit worn she gives you a big smile and says happily ,Welcome I am sorry it took so long but I am here to take your order
Feb 9, 2024 5:05 am
"Well hello," Lothar says to the barmaid with an unabashedly appraising look. "We're a weary and hungry lot. What's good from the kitchen, girl? What's the cook known for, and what meat's not stringy and gray?"

She smiles and says, Tonight we have a treat of smoked boar. Otherwise we have a venison stew or a chicken soup. All comes with some bread and potatoes.
Feb 10, 2024 4:22 pm
"Boar sounds just about right for me," Lothar says, salivating a bit, but he does remember the lightness of his purse. "How much for that? And for, say... just a piece of bread and a bowl of borth?"
Feb 11, 2024 8:12 am
Krisanna's stomach audibly growls loud enough to be heard over the din. She keeps one ear tuned to the prices for victuals while her hands feel about in her coin purse, taking stock of her meager wealth.
Feb 11, 2024 7:46 pm
Elyria watches the group for a moment as they try to figure out the issue of food vs. price.

She addresses the barmaid,

We will all have the boar. I will go take care of the cost with the innkeeper for this and rooms for the night.

She then gets up and heads over to the innkeeper and speaks with her. She pulls something out of a pouch and gives it to the innkeeper. The innkeeper smiles broadly and heads to the kitchen door and yells to get 5 meals ready on the double.

Elyria then returns to the table and says, Food for tonight and breakfast is taken care of as well as lodging for the night.
Feb 12, 2024 6:08 am
Browyn was counting his coins when Elaria came and declared the information. His eyebrows were raised when he heard her, "I...I am grateful for your kindness, M'lady. I was thinking about staying in the stable, but...Thanks again. I am at your service." He bowed to Elaria to show his gratitude.
Feb 12, 2024 6:10 am
"Elaria!" Lothar says with gusto after the woman announces her generous intentions. "Too kind, m'lady. And smart -- having your personal guard well fed and rested -- sound thinking before we head back out into the wilderness!"

To the serving girl, the mercenary grins and says, "You heard the woman... bring the boar, hold the broth!"
Feb 12, 2024 10:29 am
Felskrudd's shoulders seems to lower several inches as Elaria tells them their rooms will be taken care of. "Yes. Thank you," he says. "I was contemplating sleeping on the donkey cart. The last few weeks have not been kind to my pouch."
Feb 13, 2024 7:52 pm
It is the least that I could do as you saved me from those goblins.

I just hope that I can find the leads I need to know the importance of the statue piece I have and why I was directed here.
Feb 13, 2024 7:56 pm
At that the barmaid arrives with a large platter of food.

I overheard you speaking about the wilderness and of finding some type of treasure. I might be able to help give you some direction though it would have to be after my shift is over.
Feb 14, 2024 9:01 pm
"We'll gladly help you, Elaria. I'm no statueologist, but whatever I can do, just let me know." She smiles a bright smile at the wizard, then looks at the array of victuals in front of them. "And thank you for all this. I was starting to waste away to a shadow of my former self, and theres not that much extra to waste away," she concludes with a self deprecating laugh.
Feb 15, 2024 7:04 am
Grinning at the sight and smell of the meat, his own belly aching from too many nights on the road, Lothar grabs a wooden trencher and piles some roasted boar on it seconds after the barmaid sets it down. "Oh? When might that be?" he asks the girl before taking a big bite. Before she can answer, he overhears Krisanna talking about wasting away and chuckles as he chews, a bit of juice running down his chin.

"You always did need some meat on them bones," he says to the redhead, raising an eyebrow.
Feb 15, 2024 9:28 am
Browyn suddenly felt very hungry at the smell of roasted boar. Once it was served by the barmaid, he cut out a moderate portion, and then took some broth along with a few potatoes and bread to complete his platter. He smiled and nodded at the barmaid and started feeding on the food while listening curiously to what the barmaid had to say about the treasure.
Feb 16, 2024 8:44 pm
"Hey!" Krisanna interjects with mock offense. "I haven't heard many complaints there, mister," she adds with a saucy smile before she launches into the meal with gusto.

"Mmmff, miss is goom!"

Annabella the barmaid says quitely, When I get off of my shift i will meet you at your rooms and we can discuss things. she then goes off and serves other patrons of the inn.

You enjoy your dinner and are given your room key from Vagnhild, who seems very happy and pays Elaria extra attention. At one point the group with the mallard leaves but they eye your party as they go.

The girls are given a room at the end of the upstairs hall and there are 2 rooms for each of the guys on opposite sides of the hall by the girls room.

Is there any place in town you want to visit before getting ready for bed and meet with Annabella
Feb 18, 2024 2:50 pm
Browyn has never felt so full after eating such a sumptuous feast. The boar, the broth, the bread, and the cheese lingered on his tongue and almost made him want more. His own cooking in the wild was always done to supplement hunger. It never tasted this good. He almost regretted it. Maybe all this food was making him soft and dependable on the civilization under the walled villages. A hunter is strong when he is alert and hungry. Not when he is clumsy with a belly full of food. After the dinner was complete, he went to ask Vagnhild, whether there was a bath. He had been wandering the wilds for quite sometime now. A good warm bath would serve him well in relaxing all the tension in his body.

Ooc: Are there any notable place the party saw when entering the town? If so, Browyn can take a walk.

As the evening wears on, and Krisanna indulges in both the proffered food and drink, she gets increasingly redfaced, outgoing, and a bit bawdy; ultimately standing on the cleared table to lead the room in a rousing and raucous chorus of 'The Fisherman's Wife.' After a few more drinks, she affectionately bids all her companions goodnight and toddles off happily but a little unsteadily to bed and a well earned (and alcohol supplemented) food coma.

on the other side of the square is a merchant shop and a smithy. You passed but did not stop by a ruined temple on top of the hill in town getting to Dranath, you also saw a windmill on the southside of town. Without more exploring the rest looked like normal houses.

Fleskrudd spends his time in the tavern, treasuring the comfort of good food and drink as well as a roof, not knowing when he'll enjoy both again next time. He eventually joins in when Krisanna starts belting out the Fishwerman's Wife. Though he tries to not imbibe too much, as he wants a clear head for their meeting with Annabella and more importantly the next morning.
Feb 20, 2024 4:15 am
Lothar has been long on the road, and is weary. In the last weeks he's lost companions and suffered wounds and worse, so as the evening wears on he's satisfied just to sate his hunger and thirst, and to be near a warm fire and good company. He perhaps watches a bit longingly at the bold redhead on the table leading the tavern in song at one point, but eventually the dumb grin on his face splits into a yawn and he turns in, bidding his dwarven drinking companion a good eve. He considers asking Annabella to share his bed, or even Elaria (!), but in the end he's not so drunk as to make such mistakes so early with his new crew of adventurers...
Feb 21, 2024 4:19 am
The night wears on and everyone begins to prepare for bed. There is a soft knock on your door, as you answer you see Annabella. She speaks softly, Let's all meet together in the room for the girls as it is the largest room in the inn.

You gather together and she stand before you and says, Many adventurers have come through these doors. I work for a group who seeks the truth about the Vale and the mysteries within. I think you are able bodied to help me. seeing how you took care of those who died in your fellowship, I believe you are more honorable than many who have come through. I have a clue to a place that looks like a good place to explore. If you succeed in exploring it I am willing to help you with knowledge that we have found about the vale and even give you more places to explore as we uncover them. I am willing to answer what I know about what I have discovered about the vale and though we are not rich my organization can help fund you a little but the treasure you find may well be greater than what i can offer.
Feb 21, 2024 7:24 am
Browyn followed others as the night came close and when Annabella announced herself, his interest was piqued as he followed her to where she led them. He hesitated momentarily in front of room when Annabella announced that it was meant for girls, but when everyone entered, he continued as well. After listening to her proposition, he stood in one corner of the room, waiting for others to voice their questions. In his mind, he had made up his mind that he would follow Elaria and complete his part of the bargain. She had helped him and promised a reward, and he would follow it through.
Feb 21, 2024 10:01 am
"Any knowledge you would offer would be most appreciated," Felskrudd says with an appreciative nod. "And if you help fund us, I will make sure you are compensated if the expedition turns out fruitful."
Feb 23, 2024 7:41 am
"Mmhmm, knowledge is always good," Krisanna mumbles, trying to keep her eyes open and focused. She moves to the nearby washbasin and splashes cold water on her face and gives her cheeks a few brisk slaps. "Ohh, ok, better. Color me intrigued," she adds a little more perkily.

Lothar is bleary-eyed as well and wears only the trousers he pulled on after Annabella knocked at his door. Unlike Browyn, the man shows no compunction about walking into the girls’ room. He does his best to listen to the words that tumble from the not-really-a-barmaid, then he shrugs his brawny shoulders.

"Sounds great. But why all this skulkery?" he asks simply.

OOC:
Books and notes found, so here we go again.
The Skulduggery as you call it is because Those I am associated with are not the only people invested in the Misty Vale. I am sure you saw the Knight in the tavern room. She is part of the Keepers of the Immaculate Flame. They seek to bring back the Dragon Empire. she looks you all over and then states, Maybe I should start at the beginning. Settle in as this may take a bit.

A thousand years ago, the vile demon Sathmog came to our world. His prophet was a village priest named Azrahel Koth. The demon whispered dark secrets in his ear until his magic grew so powerful that he could open a rift between the worlds and allow his dark master to take physical form. With Azrahel Koth as his herald, Sathmog proclaimed a demonic realm in the world of humans that lasted two centuries. It was a time of darkness and evil, but also one of incredibly rapid human expansion at the expense of the elder kin – dwarves, elves, giants, and halflings.

As time passed, the opposition to Sathmog grew, until one day a young hero named Eledain managed to summon the ancient dragons charged with guarding the world from demonic influence. Mounted on dragonback, with the elder kin as his allies, Eledain finally defeated the demon. The beast was banished on a hill in the depths of the forest, but as his final act he cast a curse which he said would spread a sickness throughout the world and one day be its undoing.

Azrahel Koth was captured, but since his master had made him immortal, Eledain’s knights could not slay him no matter how hard they tried. Instead, he was imprisoned in a crypt under an island in a lake in a remote valley, guarded by warriors sentenced to remain at their posts until the end of their days.

Eledain founded a new empire, based on the worship of dragons and their cleansing fire. His realm expanded, cities were built, and paved roads spread through the wilderness. Soon the elder folk grew weary of humanity’s advance, and many left. The dwarves burrowed themselves into the mountain and built a new realm underground. In the autumn of his life, Eledain started to distrust
and fear the dragons who had carried him to victory against Sathmog. To secure his power, the dragon emperor sacrificed part of his soul to forge Um-Durman, a magical sword with the power to slay dragons and demons alike. Finally, the humans would be
free and independent of primeval beings. When Eledain eventually passed away the sword was hidden in a crypt, as the dragon
priests believed the weapon to be too dangerous to be used except in extreme emergencies. Opening the crypt required a special key: a statuette split into four pieces, one for each direction ruled by the dragon emperor.

After Eledain’s death, a power struggle broke out between his sons, and the empire took a tyrannical turn. All protests against
the dragon knights’ rule were severely punished and the realm was beset by strife. Finally, the dragons turned their backs on the empire, which collapsed shortly thereafter. Savage orcs invaded much of the region and many humans were forced into exile.

All that remained from Eledain’s reign were the fading words of monks and knights who continued to worship the Immaculate Flame. But legend has it that part of the dragon empire survived across the sea in the far east.

The Misty Vale was the where the Capital of the Dragon empire stood. The Immaculate Flame seeks the sword as does the those who wish to see Sathmog return.

Browyn listened to the entire tale without saying anything. He looked at Elaria wondering if this was her objective after all—to gather the statue and use it to obtain Um-Durman. Was she somehow related to the Dragon Empire? These stories mean that this kind of powerful artefact is no good in anyone's hands. Something leads to something, and ultimately, good intentions don't remain good for a long time. The road to greater good is paved by miniscule acts of controlled evil. Whatever it seems, Um-Durman, if it comes out and falls into the wrong person's hand, will be a disaster. Even if it fell into someone's good hands, it might have too much power to corrupt it's protector. Wouldn't it be better to let it stay hidden as it is? But, it is too late to voice any opinion. He had already pledged his service to Elaria and he can't go back on his word now. But this maid has yet to disclose the identity of their mysterious organisation. Someone should inquire about this.

Noticing that he was looking at Elaria while thinking all this, Browyn quickly shifted his gaze back.

"We can't have demons in charge," Felskrudd nods in agreement. "It bites into the profit margins. So what makes you the more responsible buyer... should we find the sword."
Mar 12, 2024 12:30 am
Lothar leans against the wall and listens, trying not to doze through the monologue. It's all a bit for show, of course, and he's actually listening attentively and many elements of the tale catch his attention.

"So let's get this straight. This magical sword, the Duran Duran... it's hidden in a crypt, yeah? Is that the very same crypt where, what's-his-name, Azrael Goth, is still imprisoned? You know, in the remote valley. 'Neath the island in the lake. Guarded by the immortal warriors."

Glancing at Kris, the man lifts an eyebrow and lowers his voice conspiratorially. "Sounds like child's play."

Before the not-really-a-barmaid can answer, Lothar pushes himself off the wall and hones the point of Silvergrin's question, adding, "And who is it you work for then, if not the dragons? Or the demons. Or the orcs. Or the goblins. This fuckin' valley's full of bad actors, innit?"

No, no it is not in where he is. I believe that the sword is here in Outskirt in the ruins it it built on. The sword is believed to have the power to get to the island he is on and actually kill him.

As for me I work for the seekers of truth. Our interest in the sword is that we are seeing the demon's minions increasing. So much that even the orcs are afraid and even leaving the valley. So if things do not change he maybe able to release himself from the prison.

That is why I am looking for adventurers like yourself to find the pieces of the statue so that he may be destroyed or at least kept from using the sword to break free.

Lothar has never gotten the full story from the other lady, the one who lost her friend -- Elaria. So he looks at Krisanna, and at Silvergrin and Silentstep before he speaks up. Was this the same stuff Elaria was after? Was she at odds with this lady and her Seekers of Truth?

"How many pieces did you say? Four? And do you know where they are? And, ah, how much they are all worth to you?"
Mar 20, 2024 4:40 am
It is hard to put a value on them as they could be what saves or ruins the Misty Vale and the surrounding area. If the wrong people get their hands on them they could bring another reign of Demons upon the land or if used correctly rid the world of a great evil.

Yes we have learned there are four pieces. We are trying to find the locations of the pieces but it seemed that they were hidden well. Three of the pieces are believed to be in the Misty Vale as it was divided among his four descendants.Three are believed to die in the Vale itself which is why we believe that they still remain in the vale. The fourth piece it is believed left with one of his descendants. We think it is is in the what remains of the Dragon empire. We have people trying to find the descendants and see if they know where the fourth piece is.

You notice Elaria is deep in thought. It looks likes she is about to say something or ask a question but each time stops and keeps her peace.
Mar 20, 2024 10:46 am
Krisanna makes a mental note of Elaria's body language, but reserves questions and comments for later. "Assuming all of this is true, and such a Doomsday weapon exists and can potentially be found. Why should we trust that you are who you say you are? We are strangers in this strange land, and would seem easy marks for someone, or someones, of bad intent to lure us with honeyed words and/or the promise of gold to do their dirty work." She casts her eyes around the room, looking at her companions. "I don't mean to be rude, but rough experience has taught me that the more valuable something is, the greater the lengths - and depths - to which people are willing to go to get it. Trust in the gods, but don't forget to tie up your horse, and all that."

I understand. It goes both ways I guess. That is why I explained so much. I was originally thinking of just giving you some information about a place that would be worth investigating but I hope to be a good judge of character.

So how about this. As you spend time here, find out if what I said is true. I will also give you any leads I have about the statue and other places to explore. If my words match what I tell you , you will know I can be trusted.

On the other hand what I hear about you and how well you do on your explorations will let me see your character and if I should continueto help you.

Nodding, Krisanna offers a genuine smiles and says, "Fair enough, and a fairer deal then I've had on many an occasion. I can work with that." She leans back against the nearest wall and crosses her arms, the day's (and evening's) fatigue catching up with her, but doing her best to soldier on and stay alert.

"And just to return to my burly companion's query - what are we talking about in terms of compensation? Not that the reward of doing good isn't enough in and of itself for such a stalwart crew...," she pauses momentarily and gestures at the assembled group. "But food, lodging, supplies, time and effort... you know. And aside from said statue bits and sword, what of any spoils or other stuffs we might collect during our investigations? Just so's we're all same paging here," she concludes, stifling an urge to yawn but not totally succeeding.
Mar 21, 2024 4:34 pm
We do not have much to offer in compensation as what money we do get goes mostly into research. Anything you collect in result of us giving you leads will be your. I believe we can afford giving you lodging here for free but that is all I can offer at this time.

Lothar isn't quite sure what to make of all this, but the idea of being given leads to check out... leads to ancient, treasure-packed crypts and towers and dungeons -- the woman has his attention.

"You have maps and such, do you?" the man asks, making eye contact with Krisanna, Browyn and Felskrudd, giving them a let's do this look.

When they have the key, or pieces of it -- then they'd be in a position to negotiate further payment...

I can tell you that this side of the Iron Forest there's an unholy place with huge stones rising into the sky. Riddermound it's called, named after the dark knight who was chained by the gods when the world was young. They say he was buried alive in that mound, along with his family, his servant, and his riches.

It can be found to the west and slightly north
of outskirt
Mar 24, 2024 8:02 pm
"Sounds dangerous," Felskrudd says. "And how many foolhardy adventurers has gone there before. Chances are they all died or the place is already picked clean. But I guess it warrants a journey to check."
Mar 26, 2024 2:15 am
That I cannot answer but I can say the Misty Vale is ripe for exploration, it is also unfortunately a very dangerous place still.
Mar 26, 2024 2:17 am
You see Elaria pull out her maps and looks at it , puts it away and says, I think I can find it on the map I have. It doesn't look to far away.
Mar 26, 2024 12:43 pm
"Then it looks like we have a goal," Felskrudd says. "How many days travel? We need food and supplies for more than the bare mininum. Who knows what unforseen events could happen."
Mar 27, 2024 3:09 am
I will then leave you to planning, I look forward to working with you all. She then gets up and heads to the door. She slips out slowly closing it behind her.
Mar 27, 2024 3:17 am
Once she is gone, Eleria pulls out her map, lays it on a small table and says, If these mounds on the map show where the mound is we are talking about 30 KM or so, one way. So we have roughly a day to get there, one to explore the mound and one to get back if we do not have any problems.

We also found out that the part of the statue I have is much more important than I knew. I came to find out why this statue was important to my family. It also means the scholar who came to my family had a bigger agenda than one just collecting knowledge.
Mar 28, 2024 6:20 pm
Browyn eyed the map and tried to make mental note of the region. "Now we know why it is so important, I guess we should prepare ourselves for whatever obstacles that lie ahead. If that place indeed has the other part of the statue, I can guess there will be all sorts of protection and traps. I am ready for this venture and I will help you navigate the vale."
Mar 28, 2024 7:06 pm
Thank you, I am still trying to put all the pieces together but I think things will become more apparent as our search yields information.
Even though the Map seems to indicate 3 days, we don't know how accurate it is and how terrain might effect our journey. I would say we may want to double our supplies just in case.
Mar 29, 2024 12:52 am
Lothar nods at all this.

"We away in the morning, then?" he asks.
Mar 29, 2024 2:55 am
"I always prefer an early start. My fathers was always fond of saying you can't build an empire sleeping in 'til noon," Felskrudd nods at Lothar.
Mar 29, 2024 4:18 am
"If only morning wasn't so darn early," Krisanna mumbles through a stifled yawn. "Looks like we've got a plan for tomorrow."
