Into the Mist Vale

You enter the safety of the town and you hear the gate close behind you. As you look around you see new construction of buildings but also see evidence of a much older as well like the town was built on top of something much older.

Quietly, so that only Lothar can hear her, Krisanna whispers, "What if we cut off his head? Isn't that s'posed to work to keep them from rising? Or pack his throat with coarse salt?" She takes a few more steps before continuing. "Or am I thinking of a brined goose? Ohh, that does sound good, I'm famished."

"Good call on both counts, gentlemen," she calls out chipperly. "I don't put much stock in that old superstition about starting one's adventures in a new town in the graveyard anyway."

OOC:
In world information I posted the map of Outskirt. You came in the southern entrance.
As you being to go further into the town hardy calls out, The Inn is the largest building in town to the north and Dranath lives in a hut on top of the hill/ruin in the middle of town.

You continue walking and silently chatting though you see Elaria start to watch those of you who are whispering.
Jan 22, 2024 2:35 pm
Browyn noticed Elaria watching and turned towards her, "M'Lady, we are wondering how you would like to bury your companion. In case of the other ones, we are pondering whether to burn the bodies so that they can't rise up by evil magics. What say you?"

He continued to walk towards Dranath's hut in the hopes of reaching the cemetery before nightfall.

"Burn in a respectful manner mind you," Felskrudd quickly adds. "Though you don't have to make a decision yet, you might want to think on it. I know it is a grizzly thought so soon after, and if you rather we choose we will try to be as resepectful as possible. But it ain't right not letting you in on the discussion.""

Krisanna says:
"What if we cut off his head?"
"Well, then we'll be damned sure he's dead!" Lothar says with a chuckle to his old... friend? Rival? What were they, exactly?

When Silentstep and Silvergrin speak with the young, on-edge mage, the broad-shouldered man nods. "Aye. A pyre would be good. Or if you have the coin, some stone crypt would work and, you know, keep the dead quiet. Restful."

Elyria listens a bit of shock in her face.

After a moment though you can see she is contemplating something. She gets a determined look and replies,

where I am from we bury our dead, but I see your point as I am far from home in a dangerous place.

Since we are now in the remains of the dragon kingdom, it was not uncommon to have a funeral pyre. I guess I will have to learn many new things and customs. If you really feel it would be best as I want him to truly rest in peace
Jan 25, 2024 7:50 am
Krisanna looks sympathetically at Elaria, feeling the depths of her loss. "I know everyone's customs are different. But if its any consolation at all, where i'm from, they say the pyre lights the way, and the smoke guides the spirits of the departed to their final resting place." She walks on in the quiet of her own thoughts, her typically jovial face a little clouded, then adds, "It's never easy saying goodbye."
Jan 26, 2024 3:26 am
Lothar is no soft touch, not in the best of times, but he knows well enough to follow Krisanna's lead when the woman turns somber.

"Who was he?" he asks Elaria, still eyeing the streets around them and the looming ruins as they head for Dranath's hut.
Jan 28, 2024 2:08 am
He was one of my father's ... men. He was my bodyguard since I was a little girl and a friend. He always said that one of my adventures would kill him. I guess he was right.

and on that you reach the top the ruin and see a simple dwelling with a grass roof and walls of stacked granite. A connecting garden is surrounded by a low fence. Herbal-smelling smoke billows out of an opening in the roof.
[ +- ] Dranath
An old man comes out of the hut withered with age. Greeting, what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Need healing or a potion of love or some other strange request.
Jan 28, 2024 6:17 am
Browyn was quite taken aback at the haggard appearance of the person, "Umm, we have come here to lay our fallen companions to rest. We would like to cremate them."

ooc: Damn! This guy looks like an undead.
Jan 28, 2024 10:11 am
Krisanna barely stifles a gasp at the sight of the man - seemingly himself somewhere in the indeterminate region between life and death. To Lothar, very quietly, she whispers, "Appropriate or creepy?"
Jan 28, 2024 7:16 pm
Let me guess, Hardy sent you.

I kinda oversee the cemetery. I am a simple healer and no priest. You are more than welcome to use the cemetery to cremate your friends. If you bury the remains leave a marker so we know where they lay.
Jan 29, 2024 3:30 am
"The latter, certainly the latter," Lothar says lowly to his companion.

When the wretched bag of skin and bones in front of them mentions Hardy, the bald, scarred warrior lifts an eyebrow. "Should the good captain have steered us otherwise, good sir?"
Jan 29, 2024 12:17 pm
Felskrudd has a rare moment of speechlessness upon seeing the creepy healer, and stands by watching the conversation.
Jan 30, 2024 2:58 am
he scratches his head and says, I guess not. Most people here just make do, we don't really have a town government at least officially. Hardy runs the militia and well everything else is kind of overseen by the tavernkeep. Things started small but we have had an influx shall we say of a variety of sorts. Most are just trying to start over away from past lives and the rest well they are trying to make their fortune. We haven't been here long enough to be "established" , he says using air quotes.
Jan 30, 2024 11:42 am
Felskrudd is finally able to compose himself. "Well, looks like a perfect little place to set up shop," Felskrudd muses. "Once I have the funds that is."

He turns his attention to the Dranath and motions for the cart. "We do have the misfortune of needing the cemetery," he says. "I don't know where we landed on cremation versus burying. Perhaps you could tell us if grave robbers or the restless dead is... well... a recurring issue."
Jan 31, 2024 4:24 am
Looking above them, to the ruins and craggy spires rising above the town, Lothan nods to himself as they await that answer.
Jan 31, 2024 4:09 pm
Not that I am aware of but this is a strange place with lots of mysteries. We did have a grave robber but he was dealt with.
Jan 31, 2024 4:47 pm
Browyn watched the exchange and then just shook his head, "Lets burn the bodies and bury the ashes."
