I like to Play Eccentric Characters

Hi I'm Clovermite,

As the title of this thread suggests, I really like to play eccentric characters, usually talkative ones. For me, some of the most fun I have while roleplaying is when I can do something kinda off the wall that I find funny in a session. I like my characters to have some weird quirk that I can lean into (like being obsessed with stealing and eating food or refusing to carry weapons and instead trying to lie his way out of trouble). I also like to lean into my character motivations, even if it means making "bad decisions" from a meta standpoint if I think it's what my character would like to do. At the same time, I recognize that too much chaos isn't fun for the other players, so I try to reign it in when I've had a little fun and give the other players their moments of glory.

As for interests, I generally prefer sci-fi to fantasy, so I really like settings like Star Wars, Shadowrun, and Warhammer 40K (though I've yet to roleplay in a 40K setting). I have a little experience with D&D 5th edition, so depending on the scenario/campaign I'm interested in playing some of that. I'm a big fan of the Cosmere, and I've consequently had a good amount of experience playing the Mistborn Adventure Game as part of a podcast my brother runs (Lost Legends of Scadrial). Generally speaking, I'm not interested in vampires, werewolves, and those kind of "supernatural" settings. I really enjoyed the videogames Sunless Seas and Cultist Simulator, so if anyone ran an RPG in either of those universes I would be interested in playing.

With regards to other game systems, I have some experience with Fate Core, and I played a game of Eclipse Phase. As for experience with playing by post, I really only did it once several years ago on a one shot Pathfinder scenario. But I've had the itch to do some roleplaying again now that my brother has gotten too busy for the podcast, and play by post seems like a good way to jump in.

Welcome. Eccentric characters I have played were my blind samurai (I actually blindfolded myself while playing her so I couldn't see where the other minis were) and my wrestler from Chult in the Forgotten Realms, who would try to wrestle all his opponents. He had a spear but seldom used it, and spoke no tongue in common with the party. He was told boats go, so he named his horse "Boat".

Welcome!

My eccentric PCs have been a goblin that was also a used-magic-item salesman (who quite frequently lied about his wares to con people into buying). He also happened to be a wererat, but not by choice, and was actively trying to find a way to remove the curse.

A Naga priestess who believes she was her own god reborn in mortal form, and quested upon a journey to discover if it was true. She regularly had people from her own religion hunting her, because they believed that the god-reborn had to be ritualistically sacrificed to save the world.

An extremely wealthy hunter who traveled with a butler that ensured he was always well dressed and looked appropriate to his station.

A pixie that grew up in hell and cursed more than a sailor. He had a very skewed morality.

A hobgoblin slave that was torn between joining the party and earning his freedom, and going back to his master.

An orc priest who firmly believed that the only way to get to heaven was that you had to climb a mountain of bodies built from opponents you personally killed in battle. And he primary goal in life was to ensure his friends (aka the party) would all go to heaven, by ensuring they killed enough people in battle whether they wanted to or not.

And lots more!

Say, this reminds me of a certain fairy in a game I ran for you, @Bookrat...

Ha! Wasn't that the pixie or fairy that brainiac's PC kept summoning? I forgot about him!

My pixie character was for a SotDL game that was ran on discord, which ended up dying because we got into round 1 of combat, and one player kept saying they were too busy to catch up with the combat; they refused to post until they "had the time to understand what was going on" (which comprised of a total of four posts), and the GM refused to move the game forward until they posted.

We all quit after two months of inactivity. I was saddened by it, because that was a fun character while he lasted.

It was a her, and yes, exactly. I remember some amusing interactions...
