https://i.imgur.com/e9DU1HM.pngHellriders - Elturgard's elite cavalry knights; their sense of honour and justice shines like Elturel's second sun. In the days of legend, their order rode into hell, taking the fight to the devils plaguing their land.

The year is 1492DR, and your characters are hellrider knights, part of Faerûn's most renowned and feared chivalrous order, bound by mortal covenant that only ends with death.

Saddle up, soldier, see you in hell!

Hellrider is based on the WotC adventure: Baldur's Gate - Descent into Avernus. It's a level 3-13 adventure, and the PCs will visit Avernus, the first of the nine hells.

Your character will be part of a hellrider squad - knights sworn to protect the shining city of Elturel until their final breath. Unusually for my D&D games, you get to wear platemail, carry a lance, and ride a warhorse.

Two of the PCs are continuing from the Hellion prequel adventure - a barbarian and a wizard (played by grifter730 and Gearspark).

I've run 'Hellrider - Descent into Avernus' twice on Gamers' Plane, and both games finished well (I include the TPK as finishing well).
🎲 D&D 5e+

Dungeons and Dragons 5e, with the new One D&D playtest material.

Starting at level 3, using point buy, and using the new UA character origins stuff.
🤬 Content

Considering a lot of it is on fire, hell gets dark. Hellrider - Descent into Avernus is a game which won't appeal to everyone.

Hellrider won't be a game for you if you get emotionally attached to your characters. A big part of it is in Avernus, and the nine hells are really, really horrible. PCs might die, lose limbs, and have their abilities taken away. The first game ended with a TPK.

⛔ Character Restrictions

The game is in the Forgotten Realms, so those stick to those races. The characters are righteous knights on horseback, so please choose appropriate classes (mainly, not warlock). No races with sunlight sensitivity either, as Elturel has a never-setting sun.
📆 Posting 2/day for seven months

The last campaign took about seven months to complete.

This is a fast game, with posting about twice per day (taking breaks for holidays and absences).
💻 Discord Required

You must be on Discord to play this game, as we will use Discord for out-of-character stuff, character creation and chat.
🐣 No D&D Experience or Books Required

No Dungeons and Dragons experience is necessary.

If you don't have the rulebook, the free basic rules and the free UA One D&D content are fine. We'll help you if you need more resources.

You don't need English as a first language, provided we can understand each other.
🎟️ How to Apply

Post in this thread.

I think for a successful game, it's essential for everyone to have similar posting speeds. I'm mainly going to look at your profile and your public games to see how active you are on GP, not any character concept you post here.
🌈 Marginalized Groups

Everyone is welcome. Also, can we not pick people up on their spelling and grammar?
🤔 Not sure?

I don't blame you. Two posts a day is a commitment, and hell doesn't sound fun, does it?

I’m not exaggerating when I say this game was one of if not the best DnD campaigns I’ve ever participated in.

Especially when we talked about getting matching actual tattoos at the end of it. Yeah, that good of a game.
Highly recommending Adam - who's more suited to get you down to fantasy hell other than a Brit eh?
Bite into the theme and you'll have a game to remember.

I am interested, and the party looks like it could use a cleric, which seems to have had a neat overhaul in the playtest.. :)

Hi Adam!

I'd like to drop my hat in for this, based on recommendations and requests. I'm currently running a game for Gearspark, so he can testify to my ability to post and run/play games.

I'm rather rusty on 5e, so I'll likely need some support with mechanics and such, but other than that I'm definitely down for some PC mutilation and death!

Just out of curiosity, how do new PCs come into the game? Is this about characters who regularly go in and out of hell, or will new PCs not be a part of the cav?

I know pretty much nothing about 5e, last D&D I played was a good long while back but this interests me. Also Bookrat and Gearspark are fun.

Hey Bookrat,
Bookrat says:

I'll be happy to supply all the support and resources you need.

I don't want to lore dump, so in summary:
Hellriders operate in groups of four. Their lives are often short and when some inevitably fall, squads are reformed from the remains of other shattered groups. Our hellriders have lost two of number and so two hellriders from other broken groups will join them to form a new squad.

The game starts in Elturel - just a normal day as a holy knight on patrol. The legendary ride into Avernus was almost a hundred and fifty years ago and the PCs wouldn't expect that they're going there.

@Adam

I'm new to this site, but not new to DnD. I've been a player for over 35 years in all of its iterations (except 4th...I tried it but didn't really care for it).

If you have room for another player, I'd definitely be interested.

Cheers @Sardis. Whilst I don't doubt your RPG experience, I'm looking for people who have more of a track record on Gamers' Plane. This is a campaign, not a one-shot, and I can't risk the game with a brand-new player who may ghost. I hope you understand my reasoning. Perhaps try one of the GP tutorial games or some more open games, and we'll talk in the future?

@Emberskyes, @Khulod - Thanks to both of you for your applications. Two legends of GP! Both of you having been on here for longer than I have. I'll let you know later today.

This game is now closed for applications.

@Emberskyes, @Gearspark and @grifter730 completed* this level 1-13 game.

They started as Hellions, child knights bound to serve the holy city of Elturel. They finished as heroes.

* Unfortunately, our heroes also accidentally doomed the Prime Material plane, so they will have to continue to level 20 to sort out that damned mess!

Adam is stupid good at what he does, but roleplay is a team effort. Huge thanks to everyone that made the game special, and I look forward to more epic moments together! - Varth's Player
