Sorry for the delay.. Labor Day 3-day weekend meant more goofing off and less paying attention to GP.

Query for people who know Cypher system.

Looking at one of the foci, it says "you are practiced at X". I'm familiar with 'trained' and 'specialized' what does 'practiced' mean in this context? Just "able to use it without negative penalty but not an actual asset?"

The penalty for not being practiced seems to be one step for each class of heaviness.

Practiced for a weapon means competent to me, you know which end to hold the weapon by and sharp in goes in the other guy. Not practiced in light would mean a step up for the Task level which cancels your step down benefit for using light.

If you're only trained in light you're at +1 Step up for Medium +2 for Heavy; if you're the odd one who doesn't train in weapons I guess +1/+2/+3 to tasks using light/medium/heavy weapons.

Trained for weapons would be skill based bonus like Trained in Light Piercing Weapons would drop a task down one due to being trained (very competent) plus if you're practiced you'd be at two steps down since Light weapons drops a task level by one (I think it was done for balancing since you're doing 2 damage).

Haven't tried looking up everyone's character
Connections:
1) I'm jealous of your outfit
2) I think you're cursed but I'm unsure if I should be scared for you or of you.
3) I pulled a trick that made you violent to the point you attacked and injured me. We are now wary of each other.
4) I tricked you into believing I'm someone else as a joke, it's been too long and I'm in too deep. Not sure I should tell the truth the lie is working too well.

I think we can let these connections take place (even retroactively) as play commences as we (the players) and the characters don't yet know one another.

well, yes -- we could. but part of the potential joy of character creation is working this out together to frame and flesh out the characters. hence my suggestion to hammer it out here. this is consistent with what we did as a group with one of the numenera campaigns i was in, and it worked out well.

if y'all would rather discover this as the play unfolds -- we can go down that path, but it feels a little blank-sheety to me. :)

I'm more partial to in advance since it gives us more of a reason to be together since he's know a little about each other and there's bonds there baked in before we start play and gives the GM more to work with to work into the story our backgrounds and interactions with each other.

I go with the flow. I find it hard to keep everyone's story in mind and I haven't really thought up a backstory for mine.
Sep 13, 2016 3:02 pm
Well you don't have to keep the other person's whole life story in mind, just the connection (I have no idea who his father is but the guy owes me like three fity).

Heads up -- got a heavy travel schedule for a couple weeks:

This week: Today and Wednesday (low to no posting these days).
Next week: Tuesday - Thursday (low to no posting)

Apologies for slow progress during these times.

Hey, I'm sorry I haven't posted. This week got a little busy and honestly in the time since this game first started I have over-committed on a few other games and started one of my own. I think it's probably best if I bow out of this one. I'm completely unfamiliar with the system and the setting and probably won't have the time to get up to speed.

Sorry again. I hope the game goes well.
