"Oh, she was saying Jon." Aldous smiles in realization as Aiwe's song nears its close. "What a coincidence! That's the name of the wizard who cured my disease. Jon Irenicus!"

"Jon Irenicus!"
Centeol's head snaps to fixate on Aldous. "You know him! You have hseen ny Dzgawn!" The spikey hairs on her body flare out. "Irenicuhs!"

She struggles against her webs, as though trying to twist through the air towards Aldous and the rest. "Ny hlove!"

Meanwhile the Stella's ice spider has succumbed to a particularly large sword spider. The magically conjured beast poofs into stardust. The remaining arachnids return to their positions on the ceiling, though a handful of them head to Centeol and secure her in more webs.

They don't seem to care that Stella's there, or that she's removing a certain cocoon. But Stella herself, this close to Centeol and in spider form, feels the magic of a spell begin to affect her mind:

SERVE, the magic compels.
OOC:
Stella must make a DC 21 Wisdom saving throw!

Araklusta says:
"Oh, she was saying Jon." Aldous smiles in realization as Aiwe's song nears its close. "What a coincidence! That's the name of the wizard who cured my disease. Jon Irenicus!"
Dieter’s stony form slowly pivots towards Aldous. His exclamation sound like the loudest noise in the world. Dieters eyes pierce him as if he condemned all of dieters companions to a terrible spidery death…but the lady didn’t react with suprise at his outburst, could she see them? With this realization Dieter quickly looks behind him in a fluid motion as not to engage any predator prey reflexes. With the spiders all around his nerves are close to their breaking point, they could be behind him or above him even!

Why couldn’t Chelak been captured by butterflies… or trolls and gnolls.

As Stella anxiously reaches the cocoon, she works her spider legs to get it free, then feels the compulsion.

Conscious thoughts started to fade and her legs slow. What was she doing with this again? She had a cocoon...Ah, of course, she was feeding her mistress...

She starts for just a moment to pull the cocoon towards Centeol, then she hears Aldous' voice and sees the barest glint of his torchlight on the sword in the cacoon. Aldous. The sword. Tiber. They were on a rescue mission. Her spider eyes spark briefly with orange starlight, angry at how she had almost been dominated and hadn't considered how Centeol controlled the spiders. They fade to icey blue, as she hurriedly scuttles around the ground, now once again dragging the cocoon towards the exit.

"Such a small world," Aiwë gasps happily. "I'd love to write something more specific to Jon's accomplishments. Will you tell me about him, Centeol?" The slight emphasis on the spider-lady's name and a flash of her brown eyes says to Aldous, not you. All the while she continues with her lyre, playing a plucky yet elegant melody that one imagines could be played on spider strings.

"Yehhss," the bloated lady breathes. "I wahs onhce a grea' hsorcerehhss, 'owerhful and beau'ful. I knew only Dzgawn wahs my match." She hisses through her chelicerae. "Bu' HE wahs maw... hmarried. To another! I 'roved my love... Proved it yehhss."

Spider-Stella has nearly made it back to the group with the cocoon.

"I go' her." Centeol pulls a clawed finger across her throat, a wheezing laugh coming from that horrible mouth. "Tanova! She died a' my hannd. And Dzgawn... JON!!! gave me thihs new hform." She lifts her hand, and the spiders all about begin to twitch. "He brough' me here, and hcommanded the hspiderhs to hcare for me. To hfeed me."

Stella makes it back to the group.

Her eyelids close over her blind eyes, and when they open, a number of other eyelids open on her face and head to reveal shiny black arachnid eyes. "And hnow I hunger."

As one, all the spiders in the chamber (except Stella) take one step towards the party.

Stella's mind races as she races to get the cocoon out. Things sounded like they were going to escalate...How did the domination magic work? It sounded like Jon had commanded the spiders, not Centeol...was it an aspect of the location? Was it a recurring command? How often? Should she change back now?

In one of her eight eyes, She sees the large sword spider that slayed the Ice Queen Spider...Could she break the command by casting Dispel Magic?

She hadn't studied any form of enchantment...this was new ground to her. Experiments it was, then.

At the moment Stella finds it extremely difficult to focus. Whatever magic is at hand, it's beyond her knowledge. What she does know is the strength of it, and how it took so much of her willpower to resist it. Whoever enacted it must have been an immensely powerful spellcaster.

Aiwë's playing doesn't slow or cease. "Centeol, there is plenty of food in here. Besides, didn't you hear? We are helping Jon run a very important experiment. If we die, all his hard work will be ruined. That is not a nice surprise to gift your love when he returns."

She gives Dieter a comforting smile.

Centeol lowers her hand. "Helping Jon..."

She stares at Aiwe and the rest for a long time, apparently weighing the decision. Finally, the spiders lose their tension, and several of them bring her more cocoons to suck on.

"Go hnow. I hdon' wan' you here whenn Jon comes. When he comes..."

"It was nice talking to you, Centeol. Goodbye." Aiwë tucks the lyre under her arm and takes Dieter's hand, leading him out of the lair.

When she and the party and their cocoon is safely away she bends down to help free Chelak, or what is left of him.

"Ah, I was really hoping she wouldn't be a problem," she sighs as she does, genuinely sad.

Not wanting to risk further domination, Stella turns back into stars and reverts to her regular, quarter-elven form. Her spider legs merge into arms and legs, her eight star-like eyes merging into four then two, and the segments of her body shrink and reshaping into a humanoid form.

Eye-stars blue and body trembling, Stella breathes quickly, ready to bolt away. She was used to spiders. And she was used to Giant Spiders. She was not used to so many on top of powerful magic threatening to dominate her mind.

She helps to cut away webbing from the face and check for a pulse.

Well done! I am glad to have such accomplished companions! Let’s get chelak out of here and back to his brother. And begin to help Stella remove the spiderwebs cocooning Chelak.

Working together, the group carefully works the body free from the web cocoon and sees that, as Tiber said, Chelak looks just like his brother. And despite all odds, the youth is alive! At least, he shows a slow heartbeat. It would seem the spiders wanted him fresh for Centeol to feed on, and so knocked the guy out with paralyzing poison. It's difficult to say when he'll be conscious and walking on his own.

Dieter allows himself to be guided away from the monster cave. Once far enough away he looks down at Aiwë and gives her a small smile.

"He's alive!" Stella exclaims, relieved to feel a pulse. "We better hurry before grandma spider changes her mind..." She checks for wounds and points out the bite marks to Runeson. "Poison...paralyzing, I believe. I don't think I can help with that, but it should wear off...eventually?"

Once free from the cocoon I place my hand gently on Chelok’s head. Heal and rid yourself of the poison within!

I use 5 pts of lay on hands to heal him from the poison inflicting him.

Her eyes widen as Runeson cures the poison. "Ah, of course! Marvelous! She had seen Aiwë's mom, Allala, cure poisons with her paladin abilities, but had never seen Runeson do so. She now wondered if he could somehow cure the mineral poison, though she somehow doubted that.

Seeing he still has bad wounds, she works quickly to apply salves and bandage the wounds. (Healer. +7 HP, plus 1 per max number of Hit Dice)

With the poison magically neutralized by Hoar's power, Chelak wakes to find Stella binding his wounds. He's confused at first, but is very grateful when the party explains what's happened.

It takes some time, but the companions safely escort the young man back to his twin. They don't have anything to offer as thanks, but they acknowledge the family sword looks much better in Dieter's hands than in theirs. Resolved to never set foot in the Cloakwood again, Tiber and Chelak happily return to their farming life.

And so the companions find themselves once again just outside the Cloakwood, ready to continue their search for the hidden iron mine.

"Fear isnt failure," Aiwë murmurs to Dieter. "Without fear there is no bravery. No valour. But you don't have to push yourself so hard. You're one of us, and we've got you."
