'' Sounds good to me, we know the guy, he knows the best route and maybe we can fix his marriage at the same time''
Jan 11, 2024 10:28 am
"Alright, Humphrey." Albert says, turning to him again. "We'll talk to Tina for you and see what we can do. But we need your word that you will make the effort and set things right." He looks at him sternly. "Do you agree?"

Albert decides not to mention the idea of Humphrey joining them on their trip just yet. With a bit of a sly move, he could make it seem like it was Tina's idea and then Humphrey will have no choice but to do it.

"Well, time stops for no man. Let's get going." He says after hearing a confirmation.
Jan 11, 2024 11:18 am
"Oh, yes. I agree." Humphrey declares quickly.
Jan 12, 2024 11:50 am
Arriving back at Tina's, they are greeted with a. '' Now what!?''

'' Errrr, Hi Tina. Well it's like this. We found Humphrey and were able to get through to him. Of course we have no idea what happened here, but it looks like he is willing to do anything for your forgiveness. Since you weren't there to tell him what to do we made a suggestion ourselves.
We are on a quest to cleanse an ancient temple from evil, Raynor is leading us and with his help we will certainly prevail.

Humphrey agreed to guide us on our path. He sees it as a pilgrimage, a time away from it all to overthink the whole situation. Could you find it in your heart to give him a second chance?''
Jan 12, 2024 5:45 pm
With Roald doing the talking all Albert does is give a slow nod and a smile to confirm Roald's story and a quick "mhm" here and there.

When speaking of Raynor, he makes sure to do a grand gesture of prayer to the heavens. Not so much for Raynor, but to give Tina more confidence.
Jan 13, 2024 4:38 am
''So Tina, what do you say...''

Tina is dubious, she knows Roald as a drunk, and Albert as a bar-tender, so all this talk of 'pilgrimages' and 'cleansing evil temples' seems far-fetched. She leans forward at one point, maybe taking a sniff to see you are drunk right now, but clearly detects no hint of booze on your breath.

"If you think this will cure him of his degenerate behaviour, that is good. I have no objections to you taking him away." She says. "We can see when he gets back if he has become a better man."

This is not the most definitive commitment to get back together, but, maybe, an agreement to talk and see him, is the most you can hope for.

What do you do?
Jan 13, 2024 1:52 pm
'' My friend here already helped many a lost soul see the light, I have no doubt we will succeed and you will be baffled by Humphrey's change.''

'' Let's get back Albert, we have some planning to do''
Jan 15, 2024 7:39 pm
Albert nods. "Right. Tina, it was good to see you. Raynor will be Humphrey's guiding light. I assure you." He adds before leaving her doorstep.

When they get back to Humprey, he tells him. "Alright. We've spoken to your wife. I have to be honest with you, she's going to need more convincing than just words." He looks at him a bit accusingly. "I suspect you've made promises before that you perhaps didn't follow through with." This statement seemed vague enough to work in any situation.

"Luckily, with some quick thinking on Roald's part, we mentioned our quest in Raynor's name and suggested that you could join us. You know, as a sort of pilgrimage to reflect on your life and your goals." At this point he turns his face to more of a no-nonsense look. "I think it would be the perfect way to show her that you're a real man of value and strength." Albert puts a hand on Humphrey's shoulder. "Even though we've already got a small crew, we are willing to take you on board if you agree to be our driver."

He deliberately crafts his next question to be one that already assumes he is joining. Trying to eliminate the chance of Humphrey saying no. "How soon can you be ready to leave?"
Jan 15, 2024 8:13 pm
"Really? She went for that?" Humphrey says, sounding surprised that that worked. "OK, then. Onward... to conquest."

At the mention of his driving you, he looks around to make sure no one is listening before answering. "My big carriage broke. I sent a message to Tina to send spares so I could fix it, but she came up herself, then got angry and stormed off home, so I had to follow her and left both carriages up at Olmsford. (a day or say away)

"How many people are we talking about?" He asks. "And how much stuff. We can take the big carriage after fixing it, or, if it is only us, the small one if we want to be more nimble... but less comfortable.

"I assume you will be paying for the horse feed?" He asks, slyly. "The big carriage is 9... no... 10 silver per week, the small one is 5. Then there is road-side taverns, I have some contacts who give me good rates, you just let me do the talking, yeah.

"We should be able to make it in about two weeks? But I really have never been there, though, so that last part will be a lot of guesswork and asking for directions."
You will need to make a plan about money.
Either you could try convince Humphrey to skip the taverns and camp out on the cold ground each night.
Or you will need to hope fortunes smiles upon you and provides some income on the trip.
Or you could, maybe, seek out a patron, maybe someone who wants to go or send something to Necusle and values the carriage and protection, or someone with a vested interest in you going there for some reason.
Or any other plan, the above are merely suggestions off the top of my head.

What do you do?

"Alright Humphrey. First thing in the morning, you get to work to get us the right transportation." Albert says. "We'll sort out the finances in the meantime. Our friend Daryl will be joining us, and possibly a 5th person as well. We should try to travel light and get more provisions along the way, I think. Would the smaller wagon work for that purpose?"
"Let's meet back up here tomorrow evening."

After splitting up, Albert discusses the money side of things with Roald and Daryl. "So, guys. What do we do? I expect we'll need about 50 silver to get to where we need to be. Perhaps the same amount to get back? We could maybe try to take on a courier job?"
Jan 16, 2024 3:21 pm
"The small one has four seats, but then with four people there is not much space for luggage." Humphrey points out. "They are both out at Olmsford, so you can decide when you get there and pick it up. Fixing the big one won't take long, the spares are in the small one."
OOC:
It will take about a day for you to walk to Olmsford and pick up either carriage.

"50!? Silver!?" Daryl exclaims when you tell him about the plan. You remember how excited he was to be gifted 10 silver, so this sounds like a huge sum to him.
Jan 17, 2024 1:29 am
''50 is a lot indeed. And that's without the trip back! Maybe we can cut some corners sleeping under the stars now and then.''
''The courier idea could be feasible... We should swing by the post office, I guess they are not that eager to go where we are going, so they might have some packages laying around waiting for a fool to transport them to necusle
I'll take Daryl and figure that out, a knight in shining armor should give them confidence in our capabilities.''

Some time later Roald and Daryl enter the post office. There are some people there so they might have to be careful mentioning Necusle. Roald addresses the clerk
'' hello there. I would like to speak to the person responsible for this, errr... company, who is in charge here?''
'' Be quick about it please we are a bit in a hurry ''
Roald tries to sound confident as if this was something he would be doing on a daily basis.
Jan 17, 2024 2:06 am
The clerk is a bit hesitant about leaving his station and looks around nervously.
- hmmm I'm not supposed to go in the back while there are customers in.
Roald starts tapping his fingers on the counter.
'' Do you see this man behind me? Do you think anyone would try ANY funny business with a guard like this near the cash register? Now get your but off of that chair and. go. And. Get. Your. Superior.''
Roald feels Daryl's gaze in the back of his neck but he can't look at him for he would definitely burst into laughter.

The clerk returns moments later and directs you through to the postmasters office then returns to their post, looking on curiously. Once the door closes behind you (and Daryl if you so desire) you have a bit of privacy from the other customer and staff.

The office is filled with packages, piled up against the walls, each one has a cardboard tag tied to it, but they don't have names or addresses, only long strings of numbers.

The postmaster looks up from his desk, his face is dominated by a huge mustache and thick glasses. "What can I do for you? Hmm?" He asks in a tiny voice that you have to lean in close and listen carefully to hear.
Jan 17, 2024 2:42 am
''Ah, good day to you dear sir. I see that you are a busy man so I'll cut straight to the chase. I run a delivery company that specializes in delivering packages to ... Let's say... 'less friendly places '...''
At this point Roald starts talking more softly to emphasize the special services he delivers.
'' We will be leaving soon for the town of ... Necusle. I would like to offer my services to deliver any packages bound that way at a very interesting price considering the danger''

The postmaster drops his voice, his eye sparkling with avarice. "Ne' castle, you say? To that capital? That is good news!" His pronunciation is a bit different, but you quickly work out that you all talking about the same place —its reputation makes that clear.

"Can you be trusted?" He asks, though his excitement at your mentioning the place suggests he is desperate enough to take a risk no matter what. "I have... Hmmm..." he scans down a list from a locked inside drawer of his desk "...three parcels that need to be transported to the capital, two are delicate, fragile, and all of them are... of a private nature, you understand. I need you word you will protect them, and that you will leave the contents undisturbed. I trust I can trust you? You understand the nature of your undertaking." The last is spoken as a definite statement, like those that don't understand what they getting into (either with the location, but also possibly with the packages) are not expected to last long. Your 'adventurey demeanour' helps to convince him that you are for real.

What do you do?
Jan 17, 2024 9:08 pm
'' We can handle the private nature of course, we are very discreet. But with 2 of them being fragile... We will have to take extra precautions, as you know the road there is not of the forgiving kind. ''
Roald pretends to be thinking...
'' I'm afraid we will have to charge double for the delicate parcels, I'm sure you understand. Give me a minute to run the numbers in my head''
Roald starts looking at ceiling for some time mumbling incomprehensibly.
'' 2weeks... 3 parc... Guards.... Food... ''
'' Ok, you seem like a stand up guy so I'll make you a package deal. 150 Silver for the 3 parcels ''

Roald's tone suggests he is expecting a counter offer.
OOC:
trying to get to 100. No idea what to ask for this job.
