Hyde readies his sword above the nasty box,

"I can give it a try but might smash whatever's inside..."

Without wasting too much thought, Hyde brings his blade down hard on the box, trying his best to pull back as soon as he feels the lid give way...

Aislynn sees no point in letting the bastard live. She chops the groveling Fool's head clean off! She continues to take out her aggression on the corpse and chops and chops and chops...till it's a bloody mess of carnage.

Hyde finds the coffer very difficult to pry open! He strains to no avail.

In the meantime, Aislynn decapitates the Fool! But as his headless body falls to the ground, a dark shape tears itself free from its corpse! The shape swells in size, taking the form of a 12-foot-tall demon with hooves, a bull's head, and vestigial wings! The demon chortles with malicious glee! "Thank you, warrior, for unleashing my true form! Now you will face the wrath of MORDAX!!!"
OOC:
Hyde and Rook may act before the demon!

The battle raged too quickly after Aishlynn released the demon, so the cleric failed to offer her deity’s blessing before the necrotic attack. She fears the wrath of hell, but wishes to win this fight. So she musters the courage to move in and touch Hyde on his shoulders, whispering urgently the arcane call to the Lady in Blue.
OOC:
She will burn a point of luck to get this result: The ally receives a +1 bonus to all attack rolls for 1 turn.

Seeing Hyde terribly wounded by the devil, Tim is fearful that they're up against a foe that may be beyond their match. "Smash the tablets! He must be getting his power from them!" Tim begins to smash the tablets in his possession.

Rook feels Malotoch's energy humming in him. He directs it into his crossbow a he loads it, and then fires a charged bolt at the demon.
OOC:
I doubt an 11 hits. If it does, the demon has to make a DC18 Will save to avoid paralysis.

How much luck would it take to turn the 11 into a hit?

Tim is unable to simply smash the tablets, as the enchanted objects are resilient to damage. However, both Aislynn and Hyde score critical hits on Mordax, eviscerating the demon and slicing his head nearly in half! The demon gurgles as black blood bubbles from the fatal wounds, then Mordax vomits forth a black fly the size of a fist!

As the body thuds to the ground, the fly buzzes angrily. "You cannot defeat me! Mordax is invincible!" it shrieks in a high-pitched voice. It attempts to escape, but it is slow and languid. Rook's crossbow bolt impales it, and with a final whimper, Mordax dies, hitting the ground with a wet smack.

All of the plaques are now in your possession. It is time to finally leave this accursed realm...
OOC:
You can now automatically open a portal back to your home world while sitting atop the throne.

Upon his failure to smash the tables and realizing the group had slain Mordax, Tim sheepishly says, "Oh. I thought that he got his power from the tablets. Guess that was wrong. Well, off to the throne, right?"
Jun 5, 2024 7:03 pm
Sister Honey, the self-important, self-appointed leader of the mission, gathers her robes and ascends to the throne. She opens the portal and pronounces, "We have done it! Let us go back and tell the tale of the Righteous Balancer, the Lady in Blue, and her band of heroes!"
Jun 6, 2024 1:16 am
"Hey, what's the rush? Shouldn't we... uh, tell the Ladies in Waiting... about the, uh... portal, or whatever?"
Jun 6, 2024 1:45 am
"Hyde...ye've been wounded just shy of yer grave. You need to get yourself to a nunnery! Let's do one and be about it lad. Com'on. I hate it enough here and I'd rather not tarry one more minute if you please sire," says Aislynn in her most empathetic voice (which sounds more like a drill seargent, but hey, she's trying!)
