First annual Gamers' Plane of Giving!

As you may have seen in the 10th anniversary post, we're going to be holding a digital gift giving event, similar to how Secret Santa is run. It's entirely optional, and just a way for members to connect with each other. All gifts given should be digital, and have the following rules:

- Limit gifts to $25 USD
- You must send your gift by Jan 1st
- If you don't send one, you are ineligible from GP contests et al, including next year's GPoG
- Must be digital, can be anything (from a site like DTRPG, art, anything)
- Don't be a jerk; this is meant to be a friendly sharing amongst friends, and please treat it as such
- Abuse of the gift (giving someone porn, sending them something they explicitly request you don't, anything traumatic, etc) will result in a ban from GP

To join, just go to your profile, and you'll see a new section under which you can click a checkbox to join, and a text box to write what sort of interests you have and would be interested in getting (don't forget to click save!). I will be the only one who will know all the pairings, but will be participating as well. I'll set up something to show who you drew and their email once I get back from my brother's wedding.

Can we offer to mail a physical gift? I'm ok covering the cost of shipping anywhere, I just think this was i have a better chance of getting them something they don't have.

What we decided is that if you'd like to send a physical gift, I can reach out to your recipient, and if they agree, they can provide their address to me, which I'll pass to you. Should they say no, you should be ready to send a digital gift instead.

Everyone who says they're interested, make sure to join by going to your Settings Page, ticking the Plane of Giving box and adding a bit of information on your interests. And to then save.

Where are we with this? I've not heard anything more about it.

I get home from my brother's wedding tomorrow. I'll pick the 10th Anniversary winners then, and close out the Plane of Giving this weekend.

Anyone who chose to participate in our first Plane of Giving, you should be able to go to your Settings page and see your match! If you want to send a physical gift, reach out to me and I'll contact your giftee. If they're ok with giving their physical address, I'll pass it along. We'll make the process smoother next year.

Hey @Keleth my receiver has no info, and I have tried to refresh my browser cash

@KCC and I also both noticed that our gift receivers don't have any interests in the note we got. Could of course be because they didn't enter anything, but might make sense to check to make sure that any info that was entered was properly passed on.
Did someone get visible interests from their giftee in their Plane of Giving?

Only if you want to throwaway money! I suggest everyone check their recipient for activity too. Maybe a private message a day before you pull the trigger on a purchase.

This also means that someone got this person as their gifter and will likely not get anything :(

No worries. That's only normal for a first time.

My giftee did not have a visible list, but I went to their profile and checked their interests.

Not everyone added their interests. I'd say check out their profile, and judge based on that if you have no info. In the future, we'll require adding something to the interests.

If anyone else finds the person they matched with may be fake, let me know and I'll remove them from the pool, giving you their giftee.

I'll also add a checkbox so you can confirm you sent a gift and one for receiving it. And next year, we'll have a separate dedicated page for it.

I'm not entirely sure when or if I ever actually chose to join this event, I didn't have the option shown in bowlofspinach's post. I have a feeling this might be why some people come up with no interests. That said, I'm happy to participate, and have already sent my surprise out.

Did you have a link to their profile in the "Gamers Plane of Giving 2023" section? I vaguely remember seeing my giftee's username in the past six weeks, but no interests were shown. "No big deal," I thought, "I can just check out their profile to see what games they've played on here. That'll give me some idea of what they might like..."

The trouble is, this person hasn't been posting a lot in the threads I've seen recently, and I don't have a link to their profile. All I have is the username, flat text. I've been searching for about 15 minutes and I can't find them in any of the threads I've checked. Am I missing something obvious that would help me find the profile? I'm about to dive into the Character Library to see if they've made any publicly-visible characters, but I'd love to hear a faster/more efficient way.

EDIT: Oh my goodness, I can't believe I forgot that I can search usernames! What a goofball! Sorry, everyone! Of course I can look up a user by their username. HA! <embarrassed muttering> NEVER MIND.

I've added two checkboxes in the settings for if you've sent your gift and if you received a gift. Please mark those as appropriate so we can see who didn't get anything. Also, you'll be able to go directly to your giftee's profile from your settings.

I bought the gift for my giftee, but to make it feel more festive I scheduled it to be delivered on Sat 23rd Dec 😎

My assigned person doesn't meet the requirements - they only have a single post, joined after the Plane of Giving post was made, and have been inactive for over 2 weeks now.

Are there any other people that are unmatched that I might get paired with instead?

I saved the check for both, but when I refresh it unchecks the recieved box, which I have in fact recieved my gift.

Hey Keleth, I didn't subscribe to the Secret Santa (even though I'm eligible), but it is showing as if I did. Can you please give my giftee to someone else if they are really participating? Luckly I didn't receive any gifts so far, so that's ok.

Also, it's showing as if I sent my gift, which I didn't (I'm not participating this year). When I unchecked it and refresh the page, it stays checked, like in the image above by Gearspark.

Apparently, through my powers of deduction at previous posts in this thread, the information I entered in my interests were omitted when passed along to my match. I wonder how many others had this happen as well.

Keleth, I'm in the same boat- I'm eligible for the gift exchange, but I technically did not sign up for it...

I've discovered I'm terrible at this. There are so many things, I got my match a gift card for DriveThruRPG. I feel like this is a good, if a tad lame, gift. I hope they enjoy it anyway.

I don't actually think I signed up for it, but my match got me a gift, so why not! Maybe I did, and my memory is just bad.

I got notification of a gift to me via email from DTRPG. But the gift is not in my account and the folks at DTRPG can not figure out how to find it. I sent them a screenshot of the email when they kept asking me who the gifter was. I told them I don't know. Now they are entirely confused. 😂

If my gifteee is reading this you should probably ask for a refund.

If you got accidentally signed up, you should have someone assigned to you as well. Check your Settings page. It should be listed there.

They show as Joined 6 Sep 2020, with only 16 posts and 1 character made.

I would much rather send a gift to someone who is definitely participating (i.e., someone who bought a gift but has not received one in kind) than someone else who may have been inadvertently signed up like me.

I guess for now I'll send them a message to see if they're signed up.
