"Baby D, can you detect thin place in time and space. Dimensional rifts? Like the room that leads throught that door?" If so are there anymore rifts like that in this building? Maybe there's on toward one of the entrances? Come to think of it what are the environmental conditions outside the building? Do you know if the air is safe?", Oscar says and points back toward Bereta and Splines "basement".
OOC:
Oscar is trying to narrow down whether taking public transport is a good idea or going outside.

Whelp… Baby D you’re my new best friend… alongside a few new ones.’ Henry whispers.
Jan 20, 2024 9:08 am

"Hey Oscar. Yes, I can detect such thin places, places where different worlds overlap. And, yes, there is one such places in and around the autopsy room and the morgue."

"I'm afraid I can't report on whether there are any further zones of this kind within the sanatorium - as that would require me accessing sensors that would attract the notice of Davey B."

"My expectation is that conditions outside this building are perilous. I'm not aware of any problems with the air itself. However, based on the impact of the virus infection when it first escaped, I expect the area around this facility has been rendered extremely dangerous."

OOC:
If you're unsure or feel stuck about ways to move forward here, I'm happy to offer some suggestions.

"Well that's just treat. What do we think? Maybe we try for the underground exit, sounds like there might be transportation?", Oscar says to the group.

Then he turns and says,"Baby D, could you open the door please?"

Oscar raises his rifle in case something, anything,
jumps out from behind it.
OOC:
Thanks @Beardhare! I think I have enough information to make an informed decision.

I really want to go downstairs and take a trip on this world on a nice gentle vehicle, maybe a monorail who I am sure isn't being controlled by Davey B at all? :)

What does everyone think? I feel like Oscar would prioritize trying to get to the nearest thinny. Since we don't know if one exists outside or not and that is potentially even more dangerous, I vote we go to the underground exit! This one feels like we need a concensus vote on before we get too far into the facility.

"I'm afraid I can't do that, Oscar."

"It's too dangerous on the other side of this door for me to let you through. Four normal humans could not survive against the undead and Davey B. Given that threat to your life, my programming does not allow me to open this door for you."
Jan 20, 2024 1:48 pm
’We left normal behind us- years ago Baby D. Open up.’ Henry sighs.
Jan 20, 2024 1:56 pm
"I'm afraid I can't do that."

"I see no evidence of you being able to handle the threats behind this door. Therefore it is impossible for me to permit you to pass through it. I am not allowed to risk your lives in that way, as the a priori probability of your survival is negligible."
OOC:
If it's getting frustrating/not enjoyable that Baby D isn't letting you through, I can make some suggestions on approaches that might help with that. It's not intended as a puzzle or something to stump you.

"Baby D, If you don't open the door and we have make to force the door open.It will alert Davey B, not only to us, but to you as well. You don't want that do you?", says Oscar raising his voice louder and louder as he talks.

'What evidence would you need to see in order to judge us capable of handling what is behind the door, Baby D?' Henry says quietly.

"Hey Oscar. That seems like an extremely bad idea. If you don't lower your voice this instant, I'll take steps to make sure you can't endanger us all."

"And that's the same question Jack asked me recently when he was standing where you are. I'll tell you now what I told him then."

"I'll need to know that you are exceptional people. Exceptional in ways that will help you get past or through large numbers of the undead. And to deal with a wicked viscous computer. Maybe you are especially sneaky, or quick with your hands on a gun, or have some magic about you? Jack convinced me by showing me some of his powerful sorcery."
Jan 20, 2024 5:57 pm
Henry grins. ‘You need us to show you some tricks in order for us to get our kicks, is what you’re saying if truth be told, aye?’ Henry chuckles.

‘Most of what makes us exceptional though is loud, Bairn. How can we prove to you we can rise to the occasion without making noise?’

"If you have some quiet magic that could help you deal with the undead, maybe show me that."

"And if you're referring to what you can do with your guns, then I have the capability of judging your abilities with them without you using your ammunition. Take out your bullets, and I'll throw up targets made of light against the walls of this room. Make to shoot them, and I'll be able to judge both your speed and your aim. It maybe that you really are good enough with your guns to have a chance against what lies behind this door."

"And my older brother - he's not just mean, he's smart. Maybe you can show me how well you're able to think around corners, show me some feat of quick calculation or sharp-wittedness."
Jan 20, 2024 6:16 pm
’I hear you well, Baby D. We shall do so.’ Henry looks towards his Ka-tet .

‘Who’d like to do what or whichfore?’

BeardHare says:
Baby D then shows you a schematic of the facility on the monitor by the door. The view you are shown is side-on to the building i.e. at the top of the screen, you have the top of the facility, at the bottom of the screen, the deepest part of the facility.
"Anyone got something to write with? And some paper? I would use the back of the letter, but that feels kinda wrong somehow." Whatever she has to use, (probably a piece of charcoal and a scrap of paper from the letter), Rose copies down the map she sees on Baby D's screen, as exact as possible and including all the labels. "Thanks again, D," she adds.
OOC:
Even if this "dungeon" area is more abstract, hopefully I can reference Rose's map so we don't get lost.

"Huh, a virtual shooting contest. That's way better than what I was thinking," Rose says, looking towards the freezers. "Well, you guys—" gesturing to Henry and Mattie "—should probably handle the shooting; I don't know anyone who could do it better." She gives her temple a tap and says, "I think I could rustle something up in the ol' peanut shell—if Oscar doesn't beat me to it."

"I sure can, though the setting that thing in fire took a lot out of me. Baby D, did your sensors see that mechanical ape catch into flame? That was me. I could do that again, funny enough that's probably my safest trick. Maybe bring a box of food in from the other room, you know, something that will burn itself out quickly.", says Oscar.

"I could try to manipulate D's emotions and make it open the door, but I don't even know if that works on a computer". thinks Oscar.
OOC:
I have 50% chance of the other powers being permanent if I roll poorly so no mind swaps today

OOC:
Noting the map details down is a great idea, @DragonDweller62! Yes, what's coming up will be more 'abstract' AND having that reference could help you a lot to find your way through it.

@microtheMacroBear I had thought already about whether your shimmer powers could work with Baby D. My decision was that it's something that this world, this thin zone between worlds where you're standing, that it might work. Reality is strange where you're standing. So I would have rolled a dice to see whether Baby D was available to be influenced in this way. You could wait a day to set your shimmer power usage back to 0 - and waiting could have consequences.

OOC:
I'm assuming Oscar has started speaking quietly again.
"Being able to set things on fire easily could be useful for dealing with the undead, Oscar. Although you would need to be careful starting fires in the confined corridors and spaces of the sanatorium."
Jan 21, 2024 4:17 pm
"Yes Baby D, I'm always careful. If you need a demonstration we can run the sink in the other room so we can put the fire out quickly. If fires make you nervous.", says Oscar.
OOC:
Oh, I think we should press on, I don't want to meet what's behind those square doors, :)

‘I’d be happy to show you my draw- but I’m afraid play acting is not my strength. How can I pull leather to satisfy you, Babbie Dee?’ Henry asks in a quiet voice. ‘And surely once fired inside yonder doors, big brother will know we are there?’
