Mechanics go here.

Rollin' them bones. I know the GP roller tends to hate me, but here's hoping for some benevolence from RNGesus.

Edit: Man, that actually worked... I rolled decent stats for once! Lol

Rolls

Wish me luck! - (4d6h3, 4d6h3, 4d6h3, 4d6h3, 4d6h3, 4d6h3)

4d6h3 : (1335) = 11

4d6h3 : (5531) = 13

4d6h3 : (6662) = 18

4d6h3 : (3164) = 13

4d6h3 : (5632) = 14

4d6h3 : (5661) = 17

HP Rolls - (1d8+4, 1d8+4, 1d8+4)

1d8+4 : (8) + 4 = 12

1d8+4 : (3) + 4 = 7

1d8+4 : (7) + 4 = 11

For equipmemt, I'm wondering if a +1 shield (doubling as his holy symbol) would be ok?

Outside of that, I'm thinking of swapping Commoner's Clothes for Traveller's Clothes, a mirror, a hammer, some pitons or spikes, a grappling hook, a blanket, a crowbar, and fishing tackle.

Nothing particularly expensive or controversial.

That sounds good to me Majunior!

Awesome. Adding those few things to the sheet, and I should be ready to go.

Also, noticed we're doing Max HP, so adjusting that.

Regarding Regan's warlock patron, we can develop this through game play a bit (so feel free to elaborate as we go). And we can chat here and work out the details as things come up.

So far I'm thinking that the "the shadow itself" that is Regan's patron is an unknown entity that Regan suspects is either is the source of the shadow force that the Order of the Shadow taps into through use of their Ki or instead a powerful agent of that very force, who has offered Regan a 'fast track' to the power offered by the Shadow Force.

I feel that Regan senses his mysterious patron is ageless, perhaps existing since creation. The patron's motivations are unclear to him, but if anything Regan gets a sense that the entity is neither a harbinger of evil nor a protector of good, but instead interested in balance. After all, shadow provides the veil of darkness but it cannot exist without the existence of light.

Also, oopylon's character Admiral is also a Hexblade Warlock and I have worked out a bit of a home brew setup with some features that his patron blade provides him. We can develop something similar. Think something like this:

1. You get a maximum number of patron points (PP) equal to your warlock level.
2. All spent patron points are restored after a long rest.
3. Your pact-blade (or patron) will alert you of the presence of something here.
4. From a particular set of spells (we choose, they should be shadow themed) choose one spell from each spell level offered. Any of these spells can be cast 1x/day. (See below for cost.)
5. Every PP spent adds to your total 'Pact Tally'. When the you spends a total of 1000 PP, the your pact contract will be called due.

Spending Patron Points:
>Spend 2PP to gain attack advantage (when attacking with your pact-blade).

>Multiply a damage roll made with your pact-blade by the number of PP spent.

>A number of PP equal to the warlock's level prevents the warlock from falling unconscious when HP are reduced to 0 or less.

>Add any number of available PP to an initiative roll (when entering battle with the hexblade).

>Cast a spell from the special list at a PP cost of 2x the spell's level. (Cantrips cost 1PP.) Afterward, you must make a Constitution Save (DC 15) to avoid gaining a level of exhaustion. A failed save will also break concentration.

None of my suggestions here need yet be written in stone. We can discuss it further.

Interesting homebrew... I dig it, but when I stop to consider I'm probably not going past level 3 in Warlock (maybe level 5 down the road, but it's a big maybe) I'm not sure tracking an additional resource is justified.

Are you looking for a mechanic to represent when someone has called on their Patron enough that the Patron feels like they should call in what's owed?

Yeah that's what I was going for...a mechanic to represent when someone has called on their Patron enough that the Patron feels like they should call in what's owed.

You are right! With a maximum number of patron points (PP) equal to your warlock level, it would take a long, long, long time to accumulate 1000 PP, especially in PbP terms. (Actually I forgot that oopsylon and I had agreed on 400 PP for Admiral's pact to come due. And also in his case he took fiendish vigor; so I made all the temporay HP that he loses in combat add to his pact tally.)

In Regan's case we could speed up his process of accumulating with some feature or mechanic. And/or we could also make his max PP equal to his character level. And/or we could say that the powers he already received from patron start him at a pact tally of 200 PP. OR we can not worry about any of this and just keep Regan's warlock patron the mysterious shadow itself and not add any mechanics on top of what's already in the sourcebooks.

Going with the book might be easiest, but I like the idea you're working with...

What about something like this: Once per long rest, he can use a bonus action to recharge pact magic spell slots? But every time he does, it's 2 points closer to whatever total will cause The Shadow to cash in?

Not too different from Arcane Recovery, will only ever get two slots back, but it may let the group push on without constant short rests.

Can we give Regan a 1d4 bonus to his Stealth rolls? This is just to tie in his training with the Order of the Shadow.
Dec 31, 2023 8:08 pm
We certainly could.
Dec 31, 2023 8:14 pm
Okay, whenever you roll stealth check add a 1d4 roll to it. Can you include this on your sheet so we don't forget?

The blur spell is cool for this connection, or rather the connection to Regan's Shadow Patron.

Sheet updated!

Agreed, blur feels thematic in addition to being useful. The versatility appeals a great deal, too... utility is available when needed, but so is extra damage.
