Your character could be currently residing there in Maulia for some reason linked to your backstory, or somehow could come across the Whisker on the sea sailing to Maulia.

Cordey in his travels find himself residing in Maulia after taking to a less liking to the ship he was sailing on. To be more exact he went overboard to escape it. He was only lucky that it passed close enough for him to make it to shore. With only a pouch of full of what he plundered before his exit; he was forced to make a bit of new start here.

Cordey is no Ierendian and was a bit displaced. His carpentry skills and fact that he is quite bit of man let him carve a spot there. He finds the people here peaceful.

Still, Cordey able to enjoy and explore the waters around the area. Being able to breath under the water has a lot to do deal with that and has allowed him a more unique position as he has friends above and below the waves.

Where do you think in Mystara Corey's human mother was from or where he grew up in the human world?

Guide to Mystara

Undersea and the Sunlit Sea

Also, do you think you could elaborate a little about who Corey's friends are above and below the waves?

Cordey's mother could be roughly any place but not where he is right now. And it would be in a port. She is 45 years old now. Cordey left her a long time ago and fairly much forgotten her. She can be about anything you want her to be. Heck. She could even be a sea captain. He left her when he was fairly young. She would recognize him for sure as he has a birth mark of a sword on his right arm.

Cordey isn't really religious. He of course will throw a word or three about some sea god. But really, he doesn't believe. You will never see him in a temple. And out of habit he kinda avoids religious types. Too many nuts in this world.

Lelay (Female human local Ierendian) has been his mate for the last two months. She has been one of many trying to get him settle on her. Cordey just hasn't been one to settle down. He is so loyal and then after a while, he isn't. That has been his story. Cordey is a sucker for a pretty face and Lelay is gorgeous, and he has more than his share of johnson. (Flaws: I'm a sucker for a pretty face.)
[ +- ] Partial picture of Lelay
Cordey has a place all to himself, but it is a one room job. (Cheap like Cordey.) It is sparce at best and just a place to sleep is all. Cordey never truly expected to stay there. Seem just has for a few years now. He is waiting for some storm to take the place away.

Martin who run boats often hires him for repairs is his common work. Cordey swam here with a bag of gems that he still has some. So, he really doesn't have to work, but he likes being felt like he is needed. That and he has done carpentry work all his life it seems. Cordey doesn't let on how much he really knows about ships. (Let you create a business name and all.)

He has taken efforts lay low here. Although being a big man that he is and obviously he is part Sea Elf. It is hard not to leave a fingerprint. Lucky for him there isn't too many ships that come by here and the pirate ship he jumped off of hasn't hit port. To be sure Cordey knows every ship that hits port.

Moonlight is a common bar/tavern that he frequents. He likes the bar life and is well known there. Seems he always has coin even if he loses a bunch. Cordey has no musical instrument talent really, but he can sing and has learned all the local stuff. Cordey has always been a fan of history and tales.

Cordey doesn't spend a lot of time under the waves. He has a sea friend (Either Sea Elf or Trinton. Whichever is common there.) called Kale who he has known for a year or two. He is more a visitor in the waters. A place he can get away to and not worry about anything above the waves.

I have lightly geared him out. Mainly cause anything he owns is from here. No idea what he has gotten over the years or found. It is possible that he might been tempted to do some adventuring there as much as he tries to hide. He is rather skilled and dangerous with a blade in his hands.

Cordey hides his combat ability and his sailor skills. He has been good and has had to draw a weapon in a long time. Usually being big is enough intimidation to keep him out of trouble. He does miss the waves and time here has been starting to draw on him.

A gem bag that keeps producing gems would be a cute magic item that he stole.

Cordey was enjoying the evening in bar in the Alcove Island was the last thing he remembers before he was shanghaied aboard the "Korta" a pirate ship that had needs of his skills. It was his skill that was keeping him from suffering worse. Not that it was great on a pirate ship that in no means he ever wanted to be on.

Time passed extremely slow for him. Each day was like another suffering, and he wanted badly to get off the ship. He didn't see much on the ship but more when he was with the captain as he took Cordey as his pet. It was there that he saw some of the goodies that he didn't get a share of. After a bit, Cordey wasn't watched 24/7 but he still didn't move much.

He heard chatter where we were going, and he decided to make his move. He managed to get as cutlass from a more careless pirate who later was seeing the deep six. With that in his hands he hit the captain's cabin while the captain was busy elsewhere. He did end up killing two more pirates in the process. This didn't bother him at all.

He knew that he couldn't take much with him, but he saw a bag of gems and that was perfect. He grabbed them and over the side he went. It was a bit far of a swim, but he was sure he could make it. Hello new life.

I like the idea of a magic replenishing gem bag. Let me work out its stats.

I was thinking since I have no real intentions of using the gems for anything but to say pocket change and such. No real need. Nope not really saving them up for anything big. No real need for mechanics per say. Gems are always there as long as I don't need them to buy and anything. They just fuel his lifestyle mostly.

Can pull 1gp and 10gp gems easily out for spending. Who need coins LOL. Maybe a better one for something his latest girl wants. You get the idea. He just seems to have gems in there when he needs them. And why it is his precious bag.

That way this is really just a minor magic item and not of big importance. And by definition it is not to be abused. He never empties it. And generally speaking, only needs to fish out a gem to spend. After time now, he is really good on the value of each type of gem in there. But the bag always seems to have the one he needs on top.

Goodie bag takes care of him, and he takes care of it. In that way it is like it has intelligence. It is a cute critter.

Cordey sharpened his combat skills as he did guide work on Safari Island. Life was rather dangerous there. Coin was great and so was the chances of death. Even on a few trips, he has lost people to the local wildlife. This all really got to bother him. He was not the land lover type of person quickly began to miss the sea.

But soon he became disenchanted with work there and took a ship to Alcove Island. There he found business and took a few ship trips as a sailor. It was good work. Off ship time he would relax in the local bar/tavern. He made a good name for himself and life was good. This was something he could do forever. And if he wasn't sailing, he took up working on ships with his carpenter skills.

I attempted to put together everything and added a little bit here and there.

CORDEY'S PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Cordey is a huge husky male Half-Sea Elf. He stands a good six feet, one inch tall. He is a massive chunk of man. Looks to be in his later twenties. His longer straight black hair has a blue-green sheen when the light hits it right. His hazel eyes always seem to be watching. There is no doubt he is Half-Sea Elf with the membrane webbing between his fingers, his gills and those long ears. He sports a cheap beard and mustache. He has a birthmark of a sword on his right arm.

BEFORE MAULIA:

Early Life:

Cordey was to stay with his human mother and was cut off from his elven family. His mother tried her best to raise him, but he was a rebel and left home early, as soon as he could. He resented his Sea Elf heritage and refused to hear from his mother about it.

Cordey's young years with his mother were in Thyatis. She seemed to be hiding away in a small port town on the south of Hattias, about 100 miles east of Alfeisle in Minrothad. She never told Cordey of her own past, but always tried to tell him of his father and the greatness that he inherited from him. Cordey never listened much and mostly rejected hearing of his sea-elf father. His mother now would be 45 years old. Cordey left her a long time ago and fairly much forgot about her. He left her when he was fairly young.

After leaving his mother:

Cordey tried to stay away from the sea to hide his heritage but try as he did, he couldn’t remain far from it. He took up work in the dock area working as a guard. A master fighter there took him under his wing and taught him the ways of combat. Life was off and on, and so were the women he was with. It always was a short encounter. He just wasn't one to be hooked. His guard life and any of the women he knew came to an abrupt end when he had gotten himself ‘in trouble’ with some in a local bar, and that made him leave the area abruptly. He took a fast boat out, giving him a taste for the life as a sailor. It was then that he finally faced his heritage. The feel of the ocean was too much for him and now he was forever hooked.

(What happened in the bar??)

For a time Cordey sharpened his combat skills as he did guide work on Safari Island. Life was rather dangerous there. Coin was great and so were the chances of death. Even on a few trips, he has lost people to the local wildlife. This all really got to bother him. He was not the land lover type of person and quickly began to miss the sea.

HOW CORDEY GOT TO MAULIA:

Enjoying an evening in a bar was the last thing Cordey remembers before he was shanghaied aboard the "Korta" a pirate ship that had needs of his skills. It was his skill that was keeping him from suffering worse. Not that it was great on a pirate ship; that in no means he ever wanted to be on.

Time passed extremely slow for him. Each day was like another suffering, and he badly wanted to get off the ship. He didn't see much on the ship, but more when he was with the captain, as he took Cordey as his pet. It was there that he saw some of the goodies that he didn't get a share of. After a bit, Cordey wasn't watched 24/7 but he still didn't move much.

He heard chatter about where they were going, and he decided to make his move. He managed to get a cutlass from a more careless pirate who later was seeing the deep six. With that in his hands, he hit the captain's cabin while the captain was busy elsewhere. He did end up killing two more pirates in the process. This didn't bother him at all.

He knew that he couldn't take much with him, but he saw a bag of gems and that was perfect. He grabbed them and over the side he went. It was a bit far of a swim, but he was sure he could make it. Hello Maulia. Hello new life.

LIFE IN MAULIA:

Cordey is no Ierendian and was a bit displaced. His carpentry skills along with the fact that he is quite bit of man let him carve a spot there. He finds the people here peaceful.

In Maulia, Cordey hides his combat ability and his sailor skills. He has been good and hasn’t had to draw a weapon in a long time. Usually being big is enough intimidation to keep him out of trouble. He does miss the waves and time here has been starting to draw on him.

Still, Cordey is able to enjoy and explore the waters around the area. Being able to breath under the water has a lot to do deal with that, and it has allowed him a more unique position as he has friends above and below the waves.

Cordey isn't really religious. He of course will throw out a word–or three–about some sea god. But really, he doesn't believe. You will never see him in a temple. And out of habit he kinda avoids religious types. Too many nuts in this world.

His most recent love interest is the lovely Lelay, a female human local Ierendian of Makai descent. She has been his mate for the last two months. She has been one of many trying to get him settle on her. Cordey just hasn't been one to settle down. He is so loyal, and then after a while, he isn't. That has been his story. Cordey is a sucker for a pretty face and Lelay is gorgeous, and he has more than his share of johnson. (Flaws: I'm a sucker for a pretty face.)

Cordey has a place all to himself, but it is a one room job. (Cheap like Cordey.) It is sparse at best and just a place to sleep is all. Cordey never truly expected to stay there. He just has for a few years now. He is waiting for some storm to take the place away.

Martin who runs boats often hires him for repairs at Hideaway Ship Hire. This has become his common work, but Cordey swam here with a bag of gems that always seems to have some inside. So, he really doesn't have to work, but he likes being felt like he is needed. That and he has done carpentry work all his life, it seems. Cordey doesn't let on how much he really knows about ships.

He has taken efforts to lay low here. Although being the big man that he is and obviously part Sea Elf, it is hard not to leave a fingerprint and be noticed by the locals in Maulia. Lucky for him there isn't too many ships that come by here and the pirate ship he jumped off of has never hit port. To be sure, Cordey knows every ship that hits port.

Moonlight is a common bar/tavern that he frequents. He likes the bar life and is well known there. Seems he always has coin, even if he loses a bunch. Cordey has no musical instrument talent really, but he can sing and has learned all the local stuff. Cordey has always been a fan of history and tales.

CORDEY'S HALF SEA ELF/TRITON FRIEND:

Cordey doesn't spend a lot of time under the waves. He has a sea friend who is a half Sea Elf-Triton called Kale who he has known for a year or two. The two hit it off because they both know little to nothing about their Sea Elf heritage.

Cordey is more a visitor in the waters. A place he can get away to and not worry about anything above the waves.
