Chapter 3: Maulia Encounters

Focused on Donatello, Admiral ducks under one undead sailor’s sword, parries the other with a hiss, and steps past them both to take two attacks on their captain.
OOC:
I’m going to multiply the damage roll for Reaver by 3 (not sure if that applies to the extra hex die as well?) using 3 of my PP

Oof, not the best damage rolls for Reaver… :/
Also, I forgot to mention, but I did not apply the Defender Shortsword bonus to the attack and damage rolls because I’m adding the bonus to Admiral’s AC instead

"A good cause can be undermined by dishonesty, Captain," Regan replies, feeling conflicted about his choice but knowing integrity was a value worth championing.

"Know I take no joy in this." Regan tells the undead Captain as he moves to engage one of the undead attacking an elf of some sort. Doesn't seem like a wood elf... high elf perhaps? Bah, lineage can come later.

OOC:
I will post in the morning on Sunday (well...actually that's just later today at the time of writing), in the meantime here is a layout of the action so far. Hope it fits with what you all were imagining well enough. Four squares represent 5 feet...well at least in the main tavern area. Those little bedroom would be super tiny...maybe specially designed for gnomes. Ha!

Regan, moving past the undead captain, resolves with a clear head to engage the undead crew. He heaves his pact warhammer at one who lunges at Cordey with outstretched hands. Though the creature appears to be an unarmed man, Regan understands that in reality he moves to attack with ghoulish claws. Landing a solid hit on the shoulder of the creature. (UC4: 11 damage)

Cordey charges the 'sailor' who threw daggers at him, lodging his dagger into the sailor's shoulder. (UC3: 7 damage)

Pushing through his own flanking attackers, Admiral rushes to engage Donatello "The Black." Admiral deftly swings both Reaver and Defender. Both blades meet their mark. (Donatello: Reaver 24 damage, Defender 8 damage. Included hex damage in mutiplication. )

Donatello staggers slightly and his true form is visible momentarily. Simultaneously, his crews' illusion falters and is just as quickly restored. Admiral, Cordey, and Regan all notice this.

>Taresh, near the bar, springs to action with his typical martial arts prowess. He rushes to meet the two undead that had just attacked Admiral. He swings his goblin staff at one of them, gives a spinning kick to the other. As he spins back around he punches the first. The undead manage to parry his barrage of attacks except his punch lands (UC2: 5 damage)

>Jin, Tasya, and Mischa move to help the locals who are protecting Lelay and the other women.

>The rakasta strongman, Caspian, rushes from his troupe's table on the upper raised area to head down the stairs toward Jin and Tasya, while other circus members move to the balcony railing and look on, flames flickering from one of their palms.

>The tattooed barbarian, Briya, snaps to action and rushes between the pirates at the bar and Taresh toward the freed humans at the table near the bar. She calls to them to stay behind the locals at the back of the room.

>Tarron remains slunk at the back most table.

>The pirates at the bar pull their drunken wits together rushing to Admiral's assistance and also moving to engage the other undead.

Donatello draws his blade and sneers at Admiral, his voice tone noticeably less human. "You will have to do better than that captain!" He swings his glowing blade and hits Admiral. (Admiral: 8 damage)

The dagger-wielding undead (UC3) takes hold of the dagger between his teeth and lunges at Cordey with it. Cordey deflects the attack.

The undead (UC4) that Regan hit is distracted from attacking Cordey and turns toward Regan, slashing at him with his disguised claws. Accompanied by a disturbing scraping sound mismatched with the sight of human hands moving across his chest mail, the claws scrap fruitlessly against Regan's armor.

The other two undead (UC1, UC2) attempt to flank and attack Taresh with their rapier and scimitar. Taresh aptly leans back to avoid one slash while leaping over the other.

Cordey does a Riposte (Reaction to the missed attack and cost him a 1 Superiority Die) and attacked the undead 3. Showing off that he is in fact a Battle Master. No doubt a surprise to anyone here that knows him as he has never shown off his fighting skills including Lelay.
OOC:
His Riposte does 16 points of damage to Undead 3.

DM NOTE TO SELF: THIS ACTION IS PART OF ROUND 2

Cordey again attacks the undead 3 with is dagger. Attacking it hard to finish it off. Cordey duels hard with a dagger. He is a well-seasoned fighter. And isn't about to let his undead throw a dagger Lelay's way.
OOC:
16 should hit for 8 points. :)

Part of Round 1...I'm updating the above stats to reflect this damage and also the map to reflect Lelay's sweetness ;)
Cordey takes quick advantage of the dagger-wielding undead (UC3) failed attack and uses his superior fighting prowess to react with another blow. The undead doesn't expect the quick retaliation and Cordey's blade sinks into the creature. (UC3: 16 damage)

Shaking his head at what this had devolved into -- or perhaps not wanting to admit this was what it was always going to be -- Regan attacks the claw-weilding undead yet again.

Admiral hisses as Donatello’s blade leaves a shallow slash across his chest. The wound doesn’t bleed as much as it should, stemmed by Reaver’s magic.

"Likewise, captain!" he responds as he suddenly darts forward, taking a quick jab at Donatello’s shoulder.
OOC:
I’m targetting Donatello with Hexblade’s curse as a bonus action, and then attacking him with Reaver as an action

That’s a crit with hexblade’s curse!

Regan heaves a hefty blow at the disguised clawing ghoul. The creature thinly dodges his attack.

...

Cordey's well placed dagger drives into his opponent's shoulder causing an involuntary twitch that makes him drop his own dagger. (UC3: 8 damage)

...

Admiral delivers a swift jab enhanced by Reaver's baleful hex. (Donatello: 24 damage) Donatello is surprised by the quick action and his eyes go wide when the blade cuts into his flesh, which then morphs from the pale skin of a young navel captain to the withered, decayed flesh of an undead ghoul barely covering exposed bones. The receding illusion soon carries over to all the fighting undead. Screams can be heard from the local woman at the back of the room when finally they see the true forms of what their protectors face.

...

Taresh swings his staff at the torso of the rapier-wielding ghoul, its spine visible through torn and sparse strands of flesh. His staff passes through the creature missing its exposed spine. Then to his other foe, he turns and gives two simultaneously kicks from the knee with one foot. The kicks land and are absorbed without seeming to effect the ghoul.
...

A pirate who had rushed down the stairs from the upper area moves in to catch the ghoul as it dodges Regan's warhammer. His blow also narrowly misses the ghoul. Two other pirates rush to the side of Admiral and swing their blades at Donatello. One hastily misses his mark and the other lands his sword, which simply clanks against hard exposed bone.

...

More locals gasp at the ghastly sight of the undead and the men fortify a human wall along with Tasya, Jin, Mischa, and Caspian, protecting the women behind.

Now on to Donatello and his ghouls for the top of round 3...continued shortly

Donatello lets out a searing hiss at Admiral in an unearthly tone, "You just had to do this the hard way. Didn't you captain!? You couldn't have just let me sit for a drink and talk with your crew. Blahh!!" He lunges angrily at Admiral first swinging his glowing blade in one hand and then swiping a hand full of sharp, long blackened nails at Admiral's face.

The sword cuts into Admiral. (Admiral: 12 damage) Feeling the sting of the blade's bite, Admiral knocks Donatello's flying claw away from cutting his face with the hilt of the Defender Blade.

...

The ghoul (UC4) that is facing Regan and the pirate lashes out at Regan with his claws. Regan maneuvers; the claws miss any exposed flesh or vulnerable places in his armor.

Both ghouls (UC1, UC2) next to Taresh, motivated by the loudly expressed anger of their captain, attack the monk. Taresh sidesteps the rapier but the Scimitar catches him, its rusty metal biting into his flesh. (Taresh: 8 damage)

The ghoul disarmed by Cordey (UC3) doesn't bother picking up his dropped dagger, but instead leaps at Cordey, claws outstretched. Cordey sidesteps the lunge.

As Admiral bats aside Donatello’s claws, he takes advantage of the opening created to slash and stab at the undead captain’s stomach. His wounds are making it difficult to focus and the curse he placed on Donatello fades as he is forced to devote all his concentration to his swordplay in order to keep up with Donatello.

Again, Cordey spins around and attack the undead while it is off balance, (riposte reaction attack).
OOC:
Dagger hits with 15 and does 8 damage to finish it off.
Expertly taking advantage of the creature's fumble, Cordey's dagger plunges into the ghoul's undead flesh, severing whatever it had of its vital necrotic connections. As its lifeless form crumples to the ground, the cursed energy within it dissipates, leaving only a motionless husk.
OOC:
Nice so far everyone. Gene, I will apply the results of the riposte attack to the stats of the previous round. Now, what is Cordey up to in round 3, especially since Cordey finished off his previous opponent.
