When the Harkonnen were granted Arrakis as fief, Aslael Heslin and her enterprises were given dispensation to remain on Arrakis, under sponsorship by the Emperor, for their superior technological skills in water reclamation and recycling. Aslael Heslin swore to reject Kanly (eternal vengenance), despite the animosity between Richese and the Harkonnen who supplanted them, in order to remain on Arrakis and continue her research.
Rumours of a secret deal between Heslin, Harkonnen, and Elrood abound. Despite such rumours, the Harkonnen were want to randomly search and harrass Heslin enterprises. After a few decades, this has largely, but not completely, ceased.
