Jaware will help, but he's only of average strength. Still, maybe he helps shave a few seconds off the effort. Andromeda watches with the intense disdain that only a dromedary can muster.

A few seconds less than six or seven minutes later...

The rubble is moved aside piled out of the way, leaving you a clear path to the doors. The doors open easily enough now that Iseret has removed the trap

I've updated the map on the handout.

"Thank you, my friends," Iseret says as she is recovered and healed. "I don't know what happened there."
Jan 25, 2024 10:47 am
"I thought we may have lost you," Tabat says. "But you are alright. I am glad for that, my friend."

He moves some of the rubble and as they pass into the next room closes the door behind them. If the doors open toward them, he places some of the rubble in front of the door, in such a way that it would be disturbed if the door opens. "Keep your ears open - if the door opens again, we'll know the invisible one follows."

When everyone is ready to press on, he gestures to the east. "Let us circuit the hall and check along the way. That trap was not disabled or set off - it may be that nobody has been here for a very long time."

Circling the hallway first, the only sound you hear is some muffled screaming from the left hand doors. Not exactly terror screams, but shrieking of some kind.

To the north, stairs lead down.
Jan 27, 2024 1:03 am
"I suppose we had better check on that sound, in case whatever it is decides to make trouble on our flank in the future. I don't think the cultists made it this far, however - we should expect some kind of creature that could have survived down here for many years. A ghoul or undead abomination, perhaps...or worse."

Tabat stows his shield and khopesh to withdraw his flail. Holding it with two hands he readies himself by the door, ready to open it when the others are prepared.

Iseret readies her weapons and assumes a crouching stance.

You realize the screaming is coming from the inner doors, but again it's strangely muffled. After clearing the door is free from traps, you open it carefully.

Tidy wooden cabinets with brass knobs and labels fill this musty library to the brim. A large cedar table stands against the south wall.

An undead head in a gilded cage screams at your intrusion, and the three skeletons in the room move to attack, one of them picking up the cage.

Tabat is up first, then the skeletons

Tabat quickly takes in the group of enemies and charges forward, swinging his flail around to strike at the cage holding the head. "Andromeda, take care of one of the skeletons!" he shouts.

The camel engages and bites at one of the undead.

Due to charging, his AC will be 20 until next round

Tabat's adamantine flail shatters the cage, and the head flies against the wall.

Andromeda bites a skeleton and harms it partially.

The head shrieks with a painful loudness and casts a spell on Tabat. Blindness: Fort Save vs DC 18

The skeletons attack andromeda, and Tabat. Andromeda takes 11 damage.

Neferekhu: 9 damage, cage destroyed
Skeletal Champion 1: 10 damage

Everybody else is up, then Tabat again.

Tabat tries to fight off the magic that threatens to afflict him.
OOC:
I'll hold off on my actions to see what the others do, but figured I'd get this in :)

I *believe* this would apply, giving him +2 to the Fort Save:

Deathless Spirit (ART): 5 resistance to negative energy dmg, negative levels do not cause hp loss, +2 to saves against death, energy drain, negative energy, spells from necromancy school.

Rolls

Tabat Menes: Fortitude (+2 from Deathless Spirit) - (1d20+12)

(11) + 12 = 23

Kadi steps in and imeadiatly channels.

Khadi: Channel DC17 - Damage - (3d6+10)

Tabat shrugs off the necromantic blindness.

Khadi channels, blasting at least one skeletal champion apart.
OOC:
They all take half damage, which is enough to destroy the wounded skeleton
Neferekhu: 21 damage, cage destroyed
Skeletal Champion 1: destroyed
Skeletal Champion 2: 12 damage
Skeletal Champion 3: 12 damage

1d4+5+3d6 : (2) + (513) + 5 = 16

Iseret skewers the head and it shrieks in fury.

Jaware fires arrows at the head, too, annoyed at the shrieking as much as fearing the spells that it seems to cast. The arrows strike true and then the head freezes as his spell connects. The head silences and goes still.

Skeletal Champion 2: 12 damage
Skeletal Champion 3: 12 damage

The two skeletons fall to the last blows, and peace resumes

Combat is over.

The masterfully carved cedar table weighs 400 pounds, but is worth 2,000 gp if you can figure out how to remove it from the tomb. Neferekhu’s gilded cage was worth 100 gp, a bit less know that it is smashed.

The table is full of journals with terrible handwriting in them.
Feb 10, 2024 3:40 pm
When we come back through, could Andromeda help up drag teh table?' Khadi asked, somewhat absentmindedly as she steps towards the journals to start flicking though them

Iseret also investigates the papers, trying to make sense of the writing.

After reading through the journals, you learn...

Neferekhu appears to be the grandmother of a Nebta-Khufre. Though short-tempered and abusive, Neferekhu possessed oracular insights that brought her family status and wealth. When she died, Nebta-Khufre was unwilling to allow her prescience to pass away with her. Spurred on by madness and wine, Nebta-Khufre severed his grandmother’s head and used unspeakable rituals to reanimate Neferekhu’s head as a miserable, screaming undead creature literally trapped in a gilded cage and longing for destruction.

Neferekhu has spent much of her time here dictating her thoughts and memories to her skeletal champion guards, who have scrawled her stream-of-consciousness rants into these journals scattered across the table.

Her journals describe the nightmarish visions of the cursed Mask of the Forgotten Pharaoh that haunted her even before her death, and her grandson Nebta-Khufre’s trek through Osirion’s desert to Wati in search of the mask following his exile from Tephu. Her visions are of a "golden face" and the return of the "god-king of the skies."

Neferekhu hasn’t been any farther into the Sepulcher, but she knows that her grandson has animated undead bodyguards to serve him along with a single mumia-addled thug from his cult in Tephu.

Lastly, she knows of the mysterious creature in the shadows that her grandson views as a mentor and teacher. It is a gargoyle-like creature with long spiky legs and a bat-like head—its body seems to be made of living, dark purple crystal.
