Perhaps we should explore everywhere else first. I may be able to ask Khepri for magic to open the lock when the sun rises tomorrow'

Tabat does not plan to disgrace the dead. The women, may they rest in peace, he leaves untouched, their valuables remaining.
Upon reaching the magically-locked door he grimaces. "Nothing can be so easy," he says, looking around. "Alright Khadi - let's explore elsewhere then get some rest. In the morning, perhaps Khepri will bless us, as she so often does."

The corridor turns to stairs turning and descending in a full circle before opening into a room.
The gentle sound of lapping water echoes off this chamber’s towering ceiling. The floor is covered in sand, and tiny stone replicas of buildings and streets fill most of the gallery, creating a room-sized map of Wati. A stark black pillar rises from the center of the room.
The ceiling in this room is 50 feet high and the black pillar is 30 feet tall. The sand and water extend down 2 feet to the chamber’s stone floor.
Khadi sees it with Jaware, a dark shadow atop the black pillar. Something lurks.

"This place is amazing," Tabat says in wonder at the large, detailed floor map of the city. He's so drawn to the skill involved in designing such a thing that he's oblivious to the potential danger.

Whatever is up their either doesn't notice your subtle looks, or doesn't care. It is watching you though, you sense, from within it's shadow.

Tabat looks up, following Khadi's guidance. He sees the creature, deep in the shadows - it's grotesque, monstrous form looming over them. "That thing doesn't look friendly," he says. Studying the creature for a moment, he attempts to discern whether it is evil, as he suspects.

It's a sceaduinar, an evil outsider. It's known for its intense resistances against magic and energy, and for it's a deadly asortment of lethal abilities.

He can designate a Smite Evil target so long as he can see it. No distance restriction. He's basically challenging it verbally, but if he needs to, he'll switch to his longbow and take a shot. Is it responding to his taunt?Mar 23, 2024 3:29 pm

Jaware fires a couple rockets at the creature. The first arrow misses, the second hits but not even the arrow does any damage.
