Okay, so far I've only got the barebones of a character idea.

So, what I've got is that he's:
- Very charismatic, but a failed actor turned bitter/angry
- Abrasive
- Bargained (his soul?) to try to get success by cheating; ironically gained performing abilities because he practiced a lot during this period
- Tragedy falls on his (sister's? lover’s? friend's?) soul, and now he's seeking to save her
- Investigated the dark arts to gain knowledge and powers
- Cursed (he's dying)
- Became dark arts investigator/researcher

Something along these lines. Might be a bit much, so maybe not all of these things needed to have happened. I'm not sure yet.

I'm thinking Warlock makes a lot of sense. He's highly charismatic, so even though he's abrasive, he has a very magnetic personality that attracts people. Sorcerer could also work. Lastly, his investigative nature could also work as a Wizard, but maybe I would stick to just that part and ignore other stuff. I'm not sure, it's still all kind of in the air.

Ok. A lot to work with.

Who or what is your patron?
You Bargained to be a better actor?

To help flesh out your character more and to give us more backstory, please go to.
https://jsigvard.com/dnd/life.php
Fill out that page. For age, put 61 years of age or older. Even if your character is younger.
(If you put the Age to 61+ You get more life events to work with)
Make sure when you generate the Life so far has at least 4 experiences.
We don't have to use what you get from this. It is just for ideas.
Please post everything you get here.

I’m not really sure who the patron is. Honestly not sure I’m going warlock. I partly wanna see how the party is filling out. I tend to lean towards Hexblade, being a gish and all, but maybe Genie might make more sense, not sure.

And yeah, I was thinking he tried bargaining to be a better actor, but maybe got swindled, kinda like getting a placebo, and he doesn’t realize it. So he got his confidence up, and he became better, and for a while he was making a name (this would explain his getting the Actor feat as the bonus human feat), but then he finds out he was swindled and his confidence disappeared, and that’s when he became a failure.

I’ll fill out that website you linked later.

Edit: Okay, I've filled it out. This is what it spat out, but I'll likely tweak this a LOT.

Family
You know who your parents are or were.

You were born in the home of a healer or midwife

You grew up poor with your adoptive family (same or different race)

You have 2 siblings. both younger than you.

Younger: A lawful good Merchant. They are friendly towards you. Alive and well
Younger: A neutral Priest. They are friendly towards you. Alive, but doing poorly due to injury, financial trouble, or relationship difficulties

Childhood
You lived in a small house.

You had several friends, and your childhood was generally a happy one.

You became a Entertainer because; You always had a keen insight into other people, enough so that you could make them laugh or cry with your stories or songs.

You became a Warlock because; When you were faced with a terrible crisis, you prayed to any being who would listen, and the creature that answered became your patron.

Do we want to do the normal Changling lore? A fey replaced you with another family's baby. So your adopted parents are the ones the Fey placed you with. Are you "parents" alive? do they know you are a Changling? Does your Siblings?

We are going to remove the 2 Spent time working to keep it fair with everyone. +11gp only.
You can add a Healing Potion or Acid if you wish.

The Fell in Love/ Adventure/Tregedy can all be the same person. You met another adventure and fell in love with them. Traveled with them for a bit but now they are missing.

The Something Magical/Someone imporant can be your patron.

Okay, let's see if I can sort this out.

Okay, I THINK I got everything there. There are still some things I still need to tweak, for example, if I go with a Hexblade patron, I'd have to explain that he started learning swordsplay when he started searching for his missing loved one. Or if he got a Genie patron, he found it in an abandoned stage prop at the theatre ruin, things like that.

If you're good with that, I'll create the character sheet.

All good with me.
Just finalizing if you want to go Hexblade or Genie.
And we will chat about the step more.

Okay, I went the Hexblade route. I've filled out the character sheet, but haven't finished the Spells list. I think everything else is filled out.

Hexblade patrons are very vague.
Pretty much says they can be anything or anyone.
Like a powerful sentient weapon to any other patron's favorite weapon.

Do you have any ideas on who your patron is?

Here some AI generated ideas. You can use one or come up with an idea.

The third option sounds awesome, although I’m not sure I care about its motives. Does it really need a motive set in stone now? I suppose I have nothing against searching for mirror shards.

Maybe his blade manifested could be extremely reflective, like a mirror. Call it a Mirror Sword because of how it looks. Could be pretty cool flavor.

Funny thing is that I liked The Shattered Mirror Entity patron also.
Don't worry about motive that is on me. We/I will come up with something.

I can see an angry actor punching a mirror. The being appears and grants you powers in exchange for stuff.

Add an ornate cracked hand mirror to your inventory.

Okay, I've selected all the spells now. I think my sheet is all done? Is there anything else I'm still missing?

With going Hexblade / Shattered Patron I have a suggestion for background.

Remove the trickster fey.
Your patron gave you a little taste of power. You loved it and wanted it more.
But it came with a cost: It could be the lover who disappeared without a trace or something else.
Everything looks good so far on your sheet.
Can you add the following also.
# Hexblade's Curse
Starting at 1st level, you gain the ability to place a baleful curse on someone. As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The target is cursed for 1 minute. The curse ends early if the target dies, you die, or you are incapacitated. Until the curse ends, you gain the following benefits:
You gain a bonus to damage rolls against the cursed target. The bonus equals your proficiency bonus.
Any attack roll you make against the cursed target is a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.
If the cursed target dies, you regain hit points equal to your warlock level + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1 hit point).
You can't use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.

# Hex Warrior
At 1st level, you acquire the training necessary to effectively arm yourself for battle. You gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons.
The influence of your patron also allows you to mystically channel your will through a particular weapon. Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch one weapon that you are proficient with and that lacks the two-handed property. When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls. This benefit lasts until you finish a long rest. If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon's type.

Oh my... that's a nice twist. So he got a taste of power, wanted more, and he's told that it'll cost him. He accepts the bargain, and then finds out he loses his lover as part of that cost. So would he have a love/hate relationship with his Patron then?
Jan 6, 2024 3:20 am
Ohh... Bare with me on this idea.
Mirror patron. He reversed your and/or her memories of your relationship.
You both believe you hate each other's guts for some reason.
The patron stole and flipped your memories of her.
Jan 6, 2024 4:22 am
Ah, I was wanting to play a lovesick character. Not really comfortable playing a character who hates an ex (mainly cause I can't imagine it)
Jan 6, 2024 3:50 pm
That is fine. It was just an idea.

Do you currently know who your love is?
Do you currently know where your love is?
Do you know if your Patron took her?

Do you currently know who your love is?
Alaina Bellacour

Do you currently know where your love is?
No. Last seen investigating the ruins of an abandoned theatre.

Do you know if your Patron took her?
No. He suspects, but he’s also in denial of it because he doesn’t want to admit that his own desire for power might’ve been the reason for her disappearance.
