Building is 100% free form, and it will matter a lot for the economy and especially for control and defense of conquered territories. Say, this video was made in May by Necromaniak, one of players in alpha tests.

...many, many hours later:

Tool he was using is C.U.B.E. and it will be improved a lot, this is rough alpha test example. Buildings can be destroyed - unless you build offline or in starting zones BUT there will be siege windows (time for destruction) and it should take big number of players and siege engines.

Oh, by the way - Camelot Unchained or "Dark Age of Camelot 2" is PvP / crafting / building MMORPG by Mark Jacobs. Or you can check it's IGN Wiki for quick intro and more pics + videos. Access to game now is kinda expensive, but they will have open beta (free tests) in 2017, right before launch.

Well, that looks amazing :D

I heard a lot about Dark Age of Camelot back in the day, but never played myself. This look interesting, and I'll keep my eye on it, though I may be MMO'ed out, short of finding players to play with. EVE Online became a job for me (I was a director in one of EVE's busiest corporations), and otherwise, I've always enjoyed MMOs for their social aspect. I admit, the building in this looks fun, though overwhelming, heh.

Actually it's still quite Minecrafty, but will improve a lot. Anyway, thanks!

Speaking of building, they will have game class for it - like, 100% dedicated crafter that is going to level/progress through building or selling blueprints - or through doing it for his guild or alliance, in exchange for protection/escorts and supply of materials.

I don't have in mind, like, Mage/builder or Warrior/builder (say, WoW examples), but crafter, as a class, further specialised in building. To make it "worse", Necro is rather quick and skilled + timelapse makes it look quite smooth n easy...talking about overwhelming :)

Once FTB launches 1.10, I will definitely start up a new MC server, for anyone who wants to join me, heh. This is inspiring.

I'm interested, but getting a Star Wars Galaxies vibe...hope it turns out better than that

I played a bunch of DAOC (Midgard 4evah!) back in the day. I think we ran the Alliance of Silly Names. Back when they started having mule accounts and whatnot, it made it a lot less fun to play. That said, I like Mr. Jacobs and his style. DAOC was a bunch of fun.

That said, I generally don't MMO anymore. Personally I don't really have the time for a lot of grinding, I really kind of hate PUGs and when you get down to it, the scale demands of an MMO often require them to cut back on design/content that you'd get in a single player game. End result, I tend to play single player anymore unless I'm playing an FPS. StarCitizen is likely my next foray into something MMO-like...

Still -- DAOC 2 might get me to spend a few $$ on it all the same. :)

They are directly mentioning SWG as inspiration, in their crafting design documents (building is just a branch of crafting). Now, was that game a triumph or a failure - it depends on who you ask, time of day, mood...

The most interesting part of crafting, to me at least, is mining. In Camelot, it will work like digging tunnels deep below + building something there (we don't know details yet). Much more complicated than usual MMO mining, and it will require teams of people - not to mention that it will all be happening in a huge battleground.

Speaking of grind, they kinda removed that part by making progression horizontal, which means that beginners will be "only" 2-3 times weaker than maxed out vets (as opposed to 124714866 times weaker in, say, WoW which has vertical progression).

Another little problem with grind is, there will be no leveling through killing monsters, no quests and no PvE instances. There will be some PvE but even the grind lovers will lack lots of "standard" options.
