@MaJunior are we vegaterian elvs?
Planets are good more much more than flavor. Take birch bark for instance. Its good for kindeling but make a tea of it and you will have have a remidy for headaches.
Elowin points out a few more plants. That moss and the roots of that bush are the key ingredients of our beloved potion of healing

Elowin is proficient in Herbalisme, and while traveling, she will take quick excursions to gather nearby plants. But she is well aware that the caravan is not waiting for her.

@runekyndig I see that as more of a personal choice. Elves are still, afaik, omnivorous.

As the caravan is getting ready to leave, Elowin runs ahead to get some foraging in before the caravan gets ready to leave. Then, periodically during the day, she drops lightly off of one wagon or another to grab some other likely herbs. It's easy to do, as Dugal is setting a steady pace for the heavily-laden wagons that covers ground but isn't faster than a person can run. He doesn't want to risk breaking a wheel. @runekyndig, make a WIS (Nature) check to see what Elowin finds (note that this is using Wisdom, not Intelligence, so you should have a higher bonus to the roll).

Morik hops up onto the buckboard of the reinforced wagon next to Smoke, who grins and says "Smells good, doesn't it?" The most delicious aroma wafts from the wagon, and Morik's mouth waters. "I haven't been able to talk him into giving me a taste yet." If you wish, Morik can attempt a CHR (Persuasion) check to draw Tesko out enough to open the shutters to talk and, possibly, share some of what he's cooking.

Princess blends easy during the evening. She gives Turighe smiles. Off and on she toyed with her Shawm but not really playing a lot with it. She didn't feel like playing her lute as she had one earlier on the trip. She gladly samples the wine. Tales of traveling always gets her interest and she has plenty to tell as well. She lets on that she traveled often.

She sleeps well in her tent and curled in a bedroll after her watch. She likes her own privacy and why she owns her own tent.

On her watch with Elowin, she learns that Princess knows very little about anything elven but and doesn't care a lot of interest mother nature either, but she is a bit informed. She is more informed about the rougher life orcish culture.

She does however learns that Princess has some interest in magic and obviously can cast some as she produces light (cantrip). There is no doubt that can weave more.

Elowin has a longer discussion with Jalon the dragonborn on the subject of eating meat. While she can partake on light meat like fish or bird, the heavy red meat she tends to avoid

Adran rejoins the quiet woman, actually enjoying her company. He is content to sit quietly, remaining alert for trouble as the caravan travels along. At regular intervals, he will turn to look behind them -- both to verify the seventh cart is still with them, and to see if any trouble is attempting to sneak up from behind.

Morik grinned at Smoke, glad he seemed to be in finer spirits today. "Food always brings a group together." He winked at Smoke. "Let's see if Master Tesko is open to conversation today."

He rapped on the wagon, and called out to Tesko.

Bram moves towards the cooking pot, with fightery stomach famished!
Tesko, whatever you’re cooking, I’m sure I’m eating, our rough and tumble fellow exclaims!

Bram surely enjoys a fine meal, and packs his gear into the fifth wagon. At mind gnomish encouragement! Thank you, Findal. You are a fine gnome, indeed!

Skilled with land vehicles, born of hard soldierly experience, Bram assists Gavath with tending horses and mules. Bramlin, he says in gruff soldierly introduction. Bramlin Bray—, well, my last name’s not important. Friends call me Bram. You can call me Bram.

DAY TWO

Last night, Princess and Elowin spent some time together on watch, Princess effortlessly weaving more stories into their conversation. Then, in the morning, Elowin rose early, setting out on foot, impatient to put as much distance between her and Mara as possible. As the caravan rolled toward the mountains, the elf ranged ahead several times, foraging for useful herbs. She found a number of plants that are good for various stomach conditions, rapid pulse, night sweats, and so on. What she really needs, she thought, is some glimmerberries, which make a good shortcut for a healing salve. She didn't find any by midday, though.
When the caravan caught up, she hopped aboard Dugal's lead wagon and talks a bit more to the cook, Jalon. He's very interested in the herbs that she's found, and compared notes with her about their different flavors. "Bitter is very important," he said, "It gets ze juices flowing in ze mouse." He was clearly relieved to hear that Elowin eats meat, though he is confused about why she avoids red meat. [b]"I hope it is not indelicate to ask: are some meats...poison to you?"

Gunter rode with kar'Javon again in the third wagon, and the dwarven peer was a little more forthcoming. He has many tales of travel of his own. "Over the many years of my life, I have developed skills that some people value very highly. I am mostly retired, but do still like to keep my hands in it from time to time."

Princess rode with Turighe in the fourth wagon for much of the day, singing songs, reciting tales, and fielding requests from the man to teach him how to play an instrument or at least learn some harmonies. He's enthusiastic about everything. "Do you know about these mountains? They're called the Nubetanya, yes? I've never been this close to them! How clear the air smells!"

Bramlin helped with the horses in the morning, and Gavath nodded his appreciation. They walked together for a while, and Gavath confided: "I was worried when we had to leave without our usual guards. But we've done two trips to the east and they needed a break. To be honest, we all wanted a break. But the kar has traveled with Dugal before, and when he got that urgent to go to Grayhaven, Dugal agreed to try and form a caravan right away. The money is too good to pass up. The rest of these were all looking for a caravan to join, but only the sage and the food-man were as eager to leave as the dwarves. Everyone else had to be talked into going. People are pretty worried about the road after what happened to that royal caravan." Later, Bram fell back to hail Findal on his wagon. The gnome had spread out a number of books and papers to study, but he cheerfully cleared a space for the fighter to join him.

Belany sighed when Adran stepped up and sat down on her wagon next to her, but she scooted over to make room for him.
Clouds scudded across the sky, promising more rain again in future. Nothing approached from behind.
"You don't say much, do you?" Belany observed.
Various small birds flitted from trees to meadow flowers as they rolled steadily along.
A cool breeze rose and Belany snuggled down into her furs a bit more.
The road rolled on.

Riding and laughing with Smoke, Morik managed to convince Tesko to open up the metal plate separating him from the driver. Suspicious dark eyes peered out from an elderly face. "You want to try some of my food?" the man said, then answered himself, "Of course you do! Everybody want something from Tesko!" But nothing about the druid seemed greedy or dishonest, and the man was clearly lonely in his paranoia. "You don't act like the people that the Five have sent in the past. I don't know...what could it hurt? Here, try this. Don't expect too much; it's just a little something I whipped up for a snack..." He passed a small trencher through the window to the dwarf, along with a round of sweet, warm dark bread. Then he passed another to Smoke. "I guess you can have some, too." Tesko grumbled, "You're doing a good job and all..." Smoke broke the bread and then exclaimed: "This is fresh! You have an oven in there?" "What kind of a question is that? What kind of an idiot travels without an oven?" So miffed was he at this, Tesko slammed the shutter closed again.

Bramlin excused himself and hopped off of Findal's wagon and nodded to Adran as Belany's wagon went past. Adran raised his eyebrows to the woman, who rolled her eyes and nodded. The elf hopped down and waited with the fighter while the last wagon's team clopped up to them. "You've got to try this!" Morik handed down some of the bread and the trencher which, despite Tesko saying it was "a snack," was heaped high with roasted meats, sauteed vegetables, and a variety of peppers. It was exquisite. Tesko was clearly a culinary master. After a few minutes of involuntary hums of pleasure, the trencher was clear, and the veteran and the outlander returned to their previous positions.

After some hours of riding together again in silence, Belany pulled out a bag with some honeyed fruit and spiced pastries. "They say not talking is either the sign of a keen intelligence...or a lack of personality." She offered Adran some of her food, and pulled out a flask and a pair of silver cups, pouring some brandy. She peered at him over the cup as she offered it, a slight smile on her lips. "It's fine by me, either way."

In the late afternoon, Elowin trots ahead of the caravan again, and this time in a small copse of trees with thick undergrowth, she finds a small thornbush with silvery fruit: glimmerberries! But as she approaches the prize, a piping little voice issues out of the nearby bushes: "Stop! What right do you have to these magical berries? Stay back, or suffer misfortune!" Elowin is ahead of the caravan, by herself. The rest of you are riding on your respective wagons.

What do each of you do?

Princess on wagon four really isn't the most preceptive person (Has a -1 on Perception) and doesn't even realize there is a problem as her attention is more on merchant Turighe stealing him away from the female Halfling driver. Otherwise, Princess is busy. (Don't die on us there Elowin. Don't have a shovel for burying accidents.)

Morik was ecstatic that Tesko conversed with them and offered food. A wide grin spread on his face, and his eyes bulged as he tasted the food Tesko offered them, but just as he was about to compliment the man, Smoke said something that Tesko mistook for offense, and slammed the separation shut again. Morik tapped on the metal plate gently, as if petting an injured wild animal that he feared may attack him. "I just want to say, this food is delicious! It's general courtesy to share food when given some, but I don't have much to offer. I have some goodberries, they're delicious and are beneficial to health--not that I think you're unhealthy. Just... just trying to be friendly, is all."

With that, he left the man alone, and hoped it would be enough.

Bram walks with his caravan keeping alert and on-guard. Watching for trouble, and keeping wary eye on the road ahead. It’s great, the way he does it.
How’s everyone holding up, Bram asks his companions generally. Our fighters fellow pauses at rest stops, drinking from his waterskin, and occasionally helping Gavath keep horses well-fed.

Red meats are no poisonous, but it leave me feeling bloated, heavy and unwilling to dance under the moon. And... Now she blushes. It makes me fart so bad. She can't help herself but to giggle.

I will give you tree answers
1. I travel with Lunea's blessings and knows and respect the power of the glimmerberries
2. I will not take them all
3. Its the desire of the bush to have its seeds spread in the world so it can move on. I will take the seeds out of the berries before brewing a potion of healing, health and life.

Now answer me. Who are you to bare an elven priestess in the forest?

Ahead of the caravan...

At first Elowin mistakes it for a flower, for its face is goldenrod and its hair is a a ruffle of pink petals. But a tiny humanoid creature with blurring wings flies up from a bush just out of reach: a pixie, judging by the sparkling pollen/dust that sprinkles behind it. "I am Peony, the guardian of this bush." The pixie looks at the elf with alien intensity...perhaps curiosity? "These woods are far from your home. And being an elf priestess is not a virtue in itself. In our realm, an exchange is customary. What do you offer to give, before taking?"

@runkyndig, if you wish, offer something and roll a Persuasion check for Elowin.
Whether you do this or not, roll a Nature check when/if Elowin decides to harvest some glimmerberries.

In the caravan...

I'd like each of the guards present - Adran, Bramlin, Gunter, Morik, and Princess - to give me two rolls: initiative and WIS (Perception) as the caravan rolls up to something slumbering in the roadway that has the horses very nervous...
Jan 14, 2024 10:04 am
Pleased to meet you Peony. An exchange you say?
Elowin opens her pack of gathered herbes, seeds and spices.
These is blue juniper seeds. Growned down into a powder and stirred into hot water, like tea, it is an effective relief against menstrual pains. Plant them in shade, with plenty of water nearby, like that creak over there, and you will have a friend in many women.
3 seeds for 10 berries?

Adran chuckles. "As much as I'd like to say it's the former, I'd have to admit it's probably a bit of both," he replies to Belany, taking the food and cup. "Thank you." He eats, and has a few small sips of the brandy, clearly willing to nurse his drink.

"I grew up running around the woods on my own. I got quite comfortable being left to my own devices. Speaking of devices, I found I had a knack for them. That meant while others were learning how to make friends, I was learning how to make things." He offers a shrug. "And now, here we are looking for a shot at more than our old town could offer. Meaning I have to do my best as a guard, as it's my chance." He offers a sincere smile, and keeps looking around for signs of trouble.

And then, he hears his sister. She always was the loud one of the family... which may be to her benefit in the moment. "I wonder what has my sister all riled up..."
