There's no response from the intercom following Macwhirr's attempts to hail and get a response from the command centre. Only silence.
A couple of moments after Macwhirr finishes her attempts to raise command, you all hear a gunshot, followed by a lonesome scream, echo through the ventilation ducts.
You have no sense at all of the direction these noises came from - they might have come from anywhere, given how the ventilation ducts are interconnected and run all across the buildings.
The gunshot and the scream are 'unsettling', to say the least - all PCs who experience stress (i.e. all PCs apart from Holroyd) increase their stress level by 1.
Are the PCs moving on from here carefully, stealthily? Or are you not making an attempt to conceal your presence? So far, it sounds like you're not trying to be quiet. I am, however, going to assume you're moving quietly.
The advantage of moving stealthily is that you are less likely to be noticed by other people and, er, other 'things'...
The disadvantage is that, if you want to try and move stealthily, I'll ask you for 'stealth' rolls i.e. a MOBILITY roll. In a group, it will be the PC with the lowest MOBILITY who makes the roll. You only roll in Alien RPG when it's for a risky action - the riskiness here is that, when you're moving stealthily, it's more stressful than just wandering around without thinking about 'are we being heard?'. Whenever you roll, and have at least one stress dice, you are risking that someone will panic. Because it's a stressful thing to do, this sneaking around a place, scared of any strange noise you encounter.
If you want to search an area for possible 'loot', it will take you about 5-10 minutes. Only one of you will roll OBSERVATION, although others can help. However I don't want us to wait around for people to offer help, that could slow us down a fair bit, I think. So if someone does choose to search, and there's at least one other person around them, I'm going to give you a default +1 to that roll i.e. assume that one person helps you.
The party can only search each location once.
The cost/risk of searching is that something bad might happen while you're searching, it slows you down, and you make a roll with at least one stress dice, which means you risk panicking.
