Scene 2 - Seizure Day

OOC:
If there's a location you'd like added to the 'map' like the arena-style teaching surgery room we've just added, @DragonDweller62/Rose (or indeed @Adrasthea/Mattie or @SenorDeebs/Henry) just let us know. And we've got plenty already, so no need or pressure for you to come up with one
OOC:
I'm assuming you're all following Rose, and taking a left turn as you leave the morgue. If you want to do something different, let us know.
You carefully, quietly, follow Rose as she makes her way out into the corridor.

The light of your torches and lantern reflects off the metallic walls you are walking past - sometimes making it seem like there is something moving towards you, as the light waves and flickers. But no. Just a reflection.

The smell is dry and musty. Although, despite what you've been told by Baby D about how long the sanatorium experienced the catastrophe that killed many and turned the remaining to undead - despite that, the floors and surfaces are clean of dust.

Some of the doors you move past have a window in them. Against a few of these, there seems to be resting something, some kind of additional humanoid shape that looms up against the glass. And sometimes these seem to be moving - but, again, it turns out that this is just a trick of the light and reflection.

You walk past a few abandoned gurneys - stripped of any bedding or other additions, just the metal frame and the wheels. A couple of these are neatly lined up against the walls, a couple are skewed across the corridor and are more dented and damaged than the others.

One door you pass has a pile of chairs and heavy-looking technical equipment jammed up against it. Above this pile is written in hurried marker-pen "DEAD INSIDE".

Eventually you come to an alcove with a set of eight elevator doors - four in one wall, four facing them directly in the opposite wall. And at the end of the alcove a door with a window in it, with symbols on it representing up and down staircases behind it.

OOC:
Did we pass the storage room? Was that the room that was blocked and said Dead Inside? Also, I vote stairs over elevator.
"Did anyone see signs for the storage room? You think it was that barricaded room?", Oscar quietly asks as he looks at the elevators' cold exterior, then whispers, "Wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator in this place."

'I know from the map Rose drew up it is on level 3? The staircase seems the quickest way- but a climd down the shaft may be safer...Unless we fall to our deaths that is.' Henry shrugs. With the demon in his head he felt himself leaning into the abilities of his companions- and that gives him a pang of guilt.
OOC:
Invent a room? An automated cafeteria where the group gets exposed to the way the ancients ate.

OOC:
Oops my bad I totally forgot about the storage room there. Sorry! I thought I'd put it on one of the lower levels...

You know what, lets's play it like that rather than retconning my previous post.

It's now on Sub-Level 4 i.e. the floor below this one. And an automated cafeteria on Sub-Level 7 (same floor as the pharmacy).

"I vote staircase. Can't shoot well while dangling on a rope or holding it for somebody else."
Mattie looks at the plan again.
They'd have to go one down here... She looks at the stairs, then the dog. "He seems calm enough. Best we move on."
Jan 28, 2024 2:22 pm
Bertie looks at Mattie and cocks his head. He then turns and trots towards the stairwell. Well, I guess the stairs it is.", says Oscar.

The dog sits at alert at the top of the stairs as Oscar walks towards them. The torche's light giving casting terrible shadows upon there gleaming surface.

"Wonder which circle are we entering, Heresy, Violence?", he thinks.

OOC:
I'm assuming you're all speaking very quietly to try and be as stealthy as possible. If you are speaking louder than that at some point, please let me know.
OOC:
It also sounds like Oscar has opened the door into the stairwell - and that Bertie moves onto the platform that the door opens onto, so I'm going to narrate what happens on doing that...
Oscar pulls the door open carefully. It moves smoothly on its hinges, swinging open with hardly a sound.

Your torchlight illuminates a metallic wall opposite the door, with a flat platform directly in front of the door. To the right, a staircase goes upwards, to the left downwards. You can see that after several steps the upward staircase turns to the left, the downwards staircase to the right - so the stairs appear to be circling around a central pillar.

The air is slightly warmer through this door, in the staircase in general, and you can feel air currents moving here that you didn't notice as you moved along Sub-Level 3 to get to the staircase.

Oscar swallows and glances at his torch dancing with the currents of air. He glances at his companions and pulls out his taser.

Oscar takes a cautious step down into the darkness, followed by another, and another, and another until he hits the first landing in between levels. He glances down, hoping to see if the landing is clear. Bertie is glued by his side.
OOC:
Yep, he has entered the stairwell :). Oscar will go all the way to the Sub Level 4's door if it is clear and then wait for everyone to follow. If possible, he will look through the doors window.

Following right behind Oscr, Henry can't help but feel proud of how well He and Rose are adapting to life here.
Jan 30, 2024 6:05 am
Rose watches Oscar and Henry disappear through the door to the stairwell, then enters herself. As soon as the warm air hits her, she has a thought that eerily mirrors Oscar's: Yep, this Hell. She wants to share this observation with the others but something about the stairwell silences her, as if it marks the den of a man-eating ape that would devour her if she woke it up.

She creeps soundlessly down to the landing between Three and Four, too stubborn to admit the fear that's prickling its way up her back.
OOC:
Are the warm currents in here dry or humid? Do they taste or smell unusual? And, of course, Rose will follow Oscar and Henry down to Sub-Level 4 if they all see it's safe.
Jan 30, 2024 7:59 pm
The way down to the next level is clear. To reach it you rotate one full turn around the central pilar, so that you are standing directly below the platform on which you entered the stairwell.

There is a sign above this door, indicating "Sub-Level 4". As Oscar peers out through the window, all he sees is another alcove containing doors to eight elevators.

The air currents - not hot, just noticeably warmer than the air in Sub-Level 3 - are dry. And they smell strongly of sulphur.
OOC:
If you go as a group out into Sub-Level 4, I'll ask for another stealth roll.

Now that players are rolling for stealth in the Alien RPG game I'm in here, I am changing my mind AGAIN on how I want you to do this. I'll follow the way Alien RPG does it i.e. PC with the lowest DEX makes one roll for the whole group. Here that will be either Rose or Oscar - both have a DEX of 10.
Jan 30, 2024 9:38 pm
Rose mentally notes the smell and prepares to follow Oscar through the door.
OOC:
Assuming we're all agreed, I'll go ahead and roll stealth to send us in. EDIT: My bad, guys.

Rolls

Dex vs. 10 - (1d20)

(18) = 18

OOC:
The failed stealth roll will have its impact once you start to move onward, so I'll wait to narrate it.

OOC:
Oh no! Oscar will open the door to whatever Beardhare has in store for us.
Grimacing, Oscar looks back at his companions. Bertie lets out a little whine with anticipation or fear.

"Probably both, huh buddy?", he thinks.

The person from another world grabs the door handle and slowly, steadily, opens it.

Henry clips his lantern to his belt, allowing him to keep his hands free. 'Slow and steady- I think this is gonna be how you say in your land a 'piece of sweetbread' Henry whispers.

Mattie, closest to Oscar, feels for her Shotgun - just in case. She enters the room in front of them systematically scanning it with her trained eyes. Should there be dangers or even traps, she wants to be aware of them, so she can protect her group.
Feb 2, 2024 12:25 am
As soon as Rose enters, she checks the map to see how far it is to the storage room. She thinks, Hopefully this isn't as hard as I feel like it's gonna be.
Feb 3, 2024 9:49 am
Oscar pushes open the door, with Bertie at his heals, and moves into the space between the elevator doors. His torch, as before, throws a flickering light against the surfaces of the space around them - again, metallic walls and ceiling, some kind of linoleum-like surface on the floor.

As the others come to join Oscar, Rose's boot hits an unexpectedly slippery spot. Rose is so concentrated on moving quietly, her senses so switched on to the noises and what she is looking at in front of her, that she is caught completely unawares. She slips, and falls, and tumbles to the floor, hitting also against the walls with the barrel of her shotgun.

The sound doesn't echo through the corridors - but it is loud, and just a moment after the fall, you all notice a change in background sounds of the corridor. There are new hums you can hear, very faintly, in the background. Several small points of orange light turn on - some near the elevator doors, a couple on the ceiling. This reminds Rose and Oscar of what it feels like when a computer starts to boot itself up.

From the plan, Rose expects the storage room to be perhaps a hundred yards down the corridor to the left, when they leave the elevator alcove.
Feb 3, 2024 11:19 am
Henry will help Rose to her feet as quickly and quietly as he can.

Oscar freezes as he hears Rose's shotgun hit the wall. "Rose are you alright?" he whispers turning around.

Oscar pockets his taser and helps Henry help Rose.

Bertie lets out a low growl matching the faint hum in the background. Oscar turns his head at the sound and notices the faint Orange lights flicker in.

"That's not good. Bertie, hush. Can you walk Rose? We need to get moving before Baby D's sibling wakes all the way up.",whispers Oscar looking at the orange lights in the ceiling.
