Chapter 3 - The Strange Plant

OOC:
Coming from here
The trio make their way to the hideout, a sanctuary within the school's forgotten corners. The chalkboard, adorned with equations and diagrams from a bygone era, serves as a silent witness to the academic fervor that once thrived within these walls. Desks and chairs are arranged in a haphazard manner, pressed against the walls to create an open central space. The dim light filtering through the cobweb-laden windows casts a delicate veil over the surroundings.

Having ascertained the hideout is secure and that nobody followed them, Tanya reveals the strange orange plant she collected in Robbie's tupperware box.
"Here it is... never seen anything like it...

"I might have imagined it, but... I heard a voice when I picked it up. As clear as I'm now talking to you... It said... something about a political group called the Green Vigil..."
OOC:
did the group name appear anywhere on the pamphlet Tanya examined?

OOC:
Is the container clear or does Tanya need to open the container for everyone to see the plant?

Edit: Tanya confirms that the group that Skog is working with calls themselves The Green Vigil. It’s in fine print somewhere in the pamphlet.

OOC:
Tanya would open the container for her friends to better see the plant.

OOC:
I was imagining something like this (without the print), so semi-transparent. We might make out the plant vaguely while it's closed but probably better to open it to get a look.

"What kind of voice?" Robbie asks nervously. Remembering what Skog had said, she asks, "Like a vision?"
Jan 30, 2024 8:37 am
It sounded real, a bit like the voice of a retired Professor I know... It made me turn to look for whoever said that, but there was no-one... I guess, yes, like a vision, but a sound vision only... It was strange. "

She points at the plant. " Have you ever seen anything like this? Do you think it is dangerous to touch... Or even to be near it? "
Jan 30, 2024 1:46 pm
Robbie hesitates. "Skog said it gave him a vision," she says. "But he seems fine, so I don't think it's dangerous. Maybe we should..." She leans her face in close to the plant and if that doesn't do anything, she carefully pokes it with one finger. "Hello?"

Freddie?
Freddie leans in, his curiosity evident, and comments, "Plants don't talk, silly. That's crazy."
Jan 30, 2024 2:44 pm
Robbie blinks in surprise at the bird. "Freddie?" she asks, excitement more than clear in her voice. "I thought you were... Where were you all this time?" She's too caught up by this surprise to make the obvious connection.
Jan 30, 2024 3:04 pm
She turns startled from plant to pigeon. "This is like a Disney movie... gone wrong..." she says under her breath.

Freddie?
Freddie suggests, "Oh, let's watch a movie! then adds I think the plant isn't happy. It's too warm inside. We should take it outside." In an instant, Freddie disappears, leaving an eerie void in his place.

The plant, once vibrant, starts to deteriorate, shifting into a dull grayish hue, showing signs of distress.

"Quick, Tanya!" Robbie exclaims. "Take the plant outside. I think it's too warm in here."

Surprised by the instant deterioration of the strange plant, Tanya grabs the tupperware that contains it and gets outdoors.

"Is here better? Is it meant to wither this fast?"

Once the plant is placed outside, a slight revival is noticeable, though its once-vibrant orange color has faded, leaving it with a muted appearance.

Emilia grabs Robbie's arm as Freddie appears, looking confused.

'...it..made a vision to tell us what it needed? That .. seems dangerous...' Even as she talks she's not looking at the plant instead of watching Robbie. She knew she had been devastated at the bird's death and suddenly for him to reappear then disappear again...
Feb 1, 2024 6:07 pm
Robbie follows Tanya outside, though she does throw a grateful and shy smile at Emilia for the hand on her arm. Seeing poor little Freddie again had stung a bit. But in a way, it had also been nice. She really misses him. Maybe the plant could even show him to them again. "This is what Skog talked about. He said something about visions from beyond the grave. And Freddie, he's... he didn't come home from the vet." She swallows nervously, then asks, "Do you think it managed to let us speak to the real Freddie?"
Feb 2, 2024 8:47 am
"But... if these are visions, they are shared ones! We all saw and heard Freddie... Not just Robbie, right? Maybe the plant communicates using the... memories of whoever is closest ?"

She tries again, leaning near the plant to whisper, "Do you need water... or something else, to get better?"

Following a prolonged pause, no further manifestations occur. Whatever prompted Freddie's brief reappearance seems to have dissipated. Nonetheless, the plant remains intact, providing a potential subject for study with the appropriate equipment and expertise.
Feb 2, 2024 2:53 pm
"Maybe it only speaks when it's in danger," Robbie suggests. "Or we need to touch it. That's what I did last time." She pokes it one more time.

'Robbie wait!' Emilia goes to grab the larger girls wrist but makes contact a lottle to late to stop the plant being poked. She stiffens lightly as she looks at the plant.

'If we dont onow what it does we shouldnt poke it...' Shes clearly concerned about the situation.
Feb 2, 2024 4:23 pm
A distorted version of Freddie appears as if he was always there. The semblance is akin to a poorly drawn depiction brought to life, with wings misaligned, feet disproportionate, and an unnatural eye. The manifestation is unnerving, marked by an appearance that can be clearly seen but also not seen at all. A mechanical screech disrupts the air, and abruptly, Freddie dissipates, leaving behind an eerie silence.

Subsequent attempts to engage with the plant yield no visions or unusual phenomena.
Feb 2, 2024 4:29 pm
Robbie lets Emilia pull her hand back and she's just about to turn to look at her when the distorted not-Freddie appears and startles her. She's glad when this vision is gone again and she swallows nervously. "That was creepy," she says. "Maybe... maybe we used up the fertilizer in the plant with the first vision?"
Feb 4, 2024 9:20 am
"Okay... So this fertilizer chemical seems to create strange plants that can create visions... Sourced from whoever is touching or interacting with the plant? I mean, it's strange, but... Is it dangerous? Is it worth attacking trains for? " she tries to sum up.

"Maybe we should talk to that woman, Astrid. She had found one similar plant too, right? Maybe she found out more?"

OOC:
Where do the characters go next?

Based on what you all know these seem like the most logical places:
- Visiting Astrid at the meeting Skog mentioned
- Going back to talk with Skog at the police station
- Going to library to do some research
- Finding someone knowledgeable in plants or biology
- Skog's home (if you can find it)

That said, here is a picture of me and notes about this adventure.

As you can see, these are more like suggestions rather than a final draft. So, if you all decide to go to some random place, like Gunnar Granat's from the previous adventure, I would need some time to think about it and then let you know of any adventure elements in that location.

I think trying to do some research would be a good idea. Maybe we can try to find a plant expert to take a look at this plant. Though tht would have been more productive before we used up its juice. Still seems like a potentially good idea.
