Jorah will clamber unceremoniously through the opening Alyria created, and immediately take in the scene before them as he moves into the church.

"Huh."

Jorah will attempt to find a pew that isn't broken and right it, providing somewhere to sit. Which he does.

Kneeling down next to holy man, Dr Crow, gently offers him some water. His movements are careful and deliberate, showing his deep compassion and understanding of the man’s suffering. Dr. Crow’s experience with the destitute shines through as he tends to the man’s needs with unwavering empathy.

"Perhaps we can help."

Father Donavich's response is a mix of gratitude, desperation, and denial. His eyes, bloodshot and filled with tears, flicker with a glimmer of hope as he looks at Alyria and Dr. Crow. His voice, hoarse from countless hours of prayer, trembles as he speaks.
He looks at the offered water from Dr. Crow with a mixture of gratitude and desperation, taking it with trembling hands. He drinks deeply, his parched throat grateful for the relief.
"Thank you... thank you for your kindness," he begins, his voice cracking.

Jorah discovers, to his dismay, that all pews are fully ruined. They could be repaired but it would take some knowledge, time, and supplies.

As the group ventures towards the holy man, Briar cuts across the room in a straight line from where they had entered. She reaches the center of the space and turns to take in as much of the remaining room as possible. She notes where the room is enclosed in a hallway to the front door, but keeps her distance from that section for the moment as she assess the current information.

Father Donavich takes a few sips of water, coughs and clears his throat.
"Perhaps the Morninglord sent you to assist I have prayed for his aid for months on inn." Still kneeling he sighs. "What do you wish to know?"
Hearing the sneeze from the fairy The looks around and notices the whole group that is in his chapel...

"The Gods do work in mysterious ways." Says Dr. Crow "The circumstances behind our arrival in your town was very odd, almost fated. Now meeting you, I can’t help to think the Morninglord may have had a hand in it all."

"Father, the Kolyana family is seeking closure, and a blessing only you can give. I am sure the Morninglord would be happy to receive one more. Please if you can help with this, I am sure, Morninglord willing, we can find a way to repay you in kind"

Dr. Crow laying it on thick…

Upon realizing her sneeze had drawn attention, Briar issues a quick "Pardon me!" and flits towards the discussion at hand. "Who is the Morninglord?" She looks quizzically between the conversationalists and leans an aside to Alyria, "That wasn’t the guy at the merchant campfire, was it?"
OOC:
Briar knows next to nothing about deities and is unashamed about it. She’s also not great with names.

Barely suppressing a snort, she turns her face away so the Father can’t see the smile that she couldn’t hide at her friend’s question. While she’d never poke fun at her for it, Briar’s innocence amuses her greatly at times. Regaining her composure, she moves her hair out of the way to free a shoulder in case she wants to perch on it while they converse.

Jerinvar, perhaps more bluntly than was necessary, postulates aloud to his allies:

"We came to see a Father who is also a father who is in search of his son and is distraught over his absence to the point of not leaving the church, so deeply in prayer has he been. While, at the same time, there is 'someone' or 'something' beneath the floor of this church, calling out to his 'Father'.

One might assume it is this holy man he refers to, or perhaps it is this man, but not the divine 'him', but rather the 'mortal', 'paternal' him.

I'm beginning to think he refuses to leave the church because it is his very son who is beneath us who has become something more than his son. Is it possible that what his son has become, he fears is beyond his god to fix, and thus laments from within the church, his hands tied and his heart shattered?"

Father Donavich's eyes widen in shock as Jerinvar's words cut through the air, blunt and direct. His face pales, and he visibly trembles, gripping the edge of the altar for support. Tears well up in his eyes as the painful truth he has been trying to avoid is laid bare before him.

"You... you speak the truth," he stammers, his voice breaking. "My son, Doru, is beneath us. He is... he was turned into a monster during the Castle raid. I trapped him in the undercroft to protect the village, to protect everyone. But he is still my son. My dear, sweet boy..."

His voice trails off as he chokes back a sob. "I have prayed day and night, hoping the gods would show me a way to save him. But they have been silent. And I... I am afraid. Afraid that there is no redemption for him. Afraid that my prayers have been in vain."

He collapses to his knees, tears streaming down his face. "I cannot bring myself to destroy him, but I cannot free him either. He calls out to me, begging for food but nothing I have tried as calmed his insatiable hunger. And I am torn between my duty to the village and my love for my son. Please, I beg you, if there is anything you can do to save him, help me. I am at my wits' end, and I fear I cannot hold on much longer."

Father Donavich's plea hangs in the air, filled with the weight of his despair and the faint glimmer of hope that perhaps, just perhaps, there is a way to save his son.

Dr. Crow raises a surprised eyebrow, and places a hand Father Donaviches shoulder "Let me see your son. Before there can be any hope of a cure we must first understand his affliction"
Jul 22, 2024 1:48 pm
At the doctor's request to see the son, Jerinvar pulled his bow from his shoulder and nocked an arrow to the string. He does not think this a good idea, but also doesn't really know what would be a good idea given the circumstances of the situation.

Father motions to a door down the hall in the church.
"The door is in there. Covered with boxes. I can not bear to see him."
Jul 22, 2024 3:05 pm
"...And he is restrained?" Asks Dr. Crow.
Jul 22, 2024 3:06 pm
With a yawn, Jorah will follow along.
Jul 22, 2024 3:54 pm
"He was... I don't know... I have not seen him in weeks..."
