Chapter 1: Carnath

Dodger leans back against his seat as the situation towards the front looks to have been resolved by the Marine... For now.

Dodger decides to focus on resting and getting some sleep if he can while journeying to the prison. While awake he subtly studies the prisoners around him.
OOC:
@BenShotFirst , would Dodger recognize any of the prisoners or know anything about them?

OOC:
Odds of Dodger knowing any of the inmates in the cage… We’ll say 25%. A bit high perhaps, but I think an argument could be made that he works in the criminal underworld and would maybe know plenty of other criminals, and the fact that Carnath’s population is fairly low. Nope, unfortunately he doesn’t know any of these men…
The chess game goes on for some time, before resulting in a disappointing stalemate. Afterwards, those that require sleep find themselves getting drowsy. Dr. Mullins finds himself re-reading various paragraphs and he occasionally nods off in tiny micro-snaps, and eventually gives up his efforts to continue with his book.

Twelve hours into the journey, Annalise, Bud, Riggs, and Mullins are sound asleep on the "safer" side of the cage, while Dodger naps on the other side. Ellos is busy contemplating the fact that her access to the prisoner database has been restricted when her thoughts are interrupted by the sound of scraping and scratching. The smaller man in the cage is at it again.

Elios-11 "packs up" her chess board and realizes that she won't get anywhere further with her database analysis. She's been blocked, plain and simple. Her logic tells her to keep watching the prisoners for clues, and with that in mind, she walks over to the smaller prisoner who is scratching and scraping and observes. Making the man uncomfortable might elicit an unplanned response, so to that end, she waits by the cage, keeping a safe distance away so that no one can reach out a hand to grab her.
Mar 23, 2024 8:17 pm
Approaching the cage for a closer vantage, Ellos sees that the floor of the cage is covered with a rubber matting, likely designed to be sprayed down with a hose in the event that blood, urine, or other bodily products need be washed out after a voyage to the prison. Where the rubber matting meets with the bottom of the cage work, there was a small channel the cage base adjoins to, and is sealed shut, but it appears that the man has used what appears to be a small piece of metal acting as a primitive chisel or shiv, and has been steadily cutting away the rubber matting from the cage base. By the looks of it, the man has nearly cut the entire cage base loose from the rubber matting.
Ellos approaches, remaining careful to stay out of grabbing range, and the smaller man looks up from his work, and gives a sinister smile. "Hey, Elmer," the man says.
The larger man, had previously taken a seat from another inmate closed his eyes for a short rest, having lost interest in leering at the workers on the other side of the cage, but at mention of his name one eye winks open.
"Almost there, if you want to grab some of the stronger fellas to help." He says this while maintaining his gaze on Ellos, a look of almost mocking nature on his face.
Elmer stands up, stretches, and begins slapping the shoulders to wake a couple of other prisoners inside of the cage.

Dodger’s nap is suddenly interrupted by the sounds of shuffling and shifting bodies around him, and he opens his eyes to see some of the men rousing from their sleep. The large inmate wears a mean looking smile on his face, and Dodger’s been incarcerated enough times for petty crimes in his younger days to recognize anxious feeling that comes when something is about to go down in a jailhouse.

Elios-11 turns and walks back to the group.

"There may be a problem," she announces. "The prisoners might be trying to escape perhaps with the intent of hijacking the shuttle."
Mar 24, 2024 4:43 am
She moves in close to Ellos and says, "I have 2 shots in my foam gun and a putter. Beyond that I have a vacuum suit. So we could evacuate the air, drop anything that breathes, then pump the air back in."

"Huh? What? Evacuated the air? No way! That could go really bad really quickly", Bud says snapping awake and clutching the cat.

He kicks CPL Anthony Riggs' chair hard.

"Wake up! The prisoners are trying to escape.", he yells then pulls the shotgun from his pack.

As he does this, Mr. Man yeows at being rudely awaken and crawls into the backpack after the gun is removed. He looks up indignantly at Bud as if thinking, "Not again, Bud. Why can't you wait until I'm awake before shooting the noisy thing." Then buries himself further deep into the pack.

"Shit, I’ll alert the pilot. Surely there’s a contingency plan for disruptive inmates."
OOC:
Mullis gets up and heads back to the front of the ship. He’ll look for either an intercom or some form of communication. If nothing he’ll just bang on the door to try and get the attention of the pilot.
Mar 24, 2024 2:57 pm
"A putter Annelise? Are you planning on playing golf in the prison?" Her android face smirks awkwardly as she turn to Dr. Mullis. "A good idea. The rest of us should keep our eyes open. That includes you, Bud. That's hardly a position of strength, wrapped inside a sleeping bag. You'll have plenty of time to sleep if you're dead."
Mar 24, 2024 5:05 pm
As soon as the group of new employees begins reacting to Ellos’s news, Elmer shouts to those he roused, "Now!" Hurry up. Elmer, the smaller long-haired man with the shiv/chisel, and two other inmates grab hold of the cage and begin working in tandem to push-and-pull… push-and-pull… push-and-pull… The cage rattles loudly, and those watching see that the cage is quickly being ripped from it’s rubber mounting at the base. Ellos-11’s assessment of the situation does seem indeed to be the case. A prisoner escape seems imminent; an attempt at a hijacking the forgone conclusion afterwards.

As panic builds in the main passenger area of the ship, Mullins rushes to the front of the transport and searches frantically for an intercom. There’s a speaker to the left of the locked cockpit door, but no button is evident or any means to contact the pilot’s on the other side, so he begins frantically hammering on the door with his fist. After a few seconds, which feel like long, precious minutes wasting away as the doctor tries to ignore the shouts and primordial whoops of excitement now emanating loudly the prisoners from the other side of the cage, the annoyed-sounding voice of the shuttle’s first pilot crackles over the speaker.

"…Kkksh… —have nearly twenty-four hours of travel time remaining. What the hell do you assholes want?"
OOC:
I need everyone to take one point of stress, as the danger of an impending hijacking seems more and more inevitable.
Mar 24, 2024 6:10 pm
Riggs starts awake, and hastily assesses the situation as he stands and brings his flamethrower to bear on the cage.

Without a word, he fires into the cage not caring at all which inmate he hits.
OOC:
OK, making sure I have this right...
Combat is 41. Firearms adds +15%, making it a total of 56% to roll under on percentiles. If I roll under 56, I roll damage.

Oh of course. I forgot the GP dice roller hates me.

"I…well….have no clue maybe in my office. Do you have some weapons or maybe special programs?"

She pulls out her foam gun. Then glances through the manual, "Yeah, yeah new owner, blah blah, to operate. Put cartridge in gun, turn safety off, point foam 2,000 at person you want detained. Pull trigger." She proceeds to follow those directions.
OOC:

Hmm hit I think next time no use in <
Oh and the foam gun is Body save or stuck Str check- to escape

"I have a smart rifle and two mags but only to used as a last resort. I am deducing the last resort may have been reached. Anyone else have weapons. As they say in ancient movies, It's show time."

Ellos-11 grabs the weapon from her bag, points at the prisoners, shoots and misses.
OOC:
I should have rolled disadvantage due to close range but it's moot as I failed anyway.

Bud lifts his head up from his pack and swings his scattergun towards the prisoners and yells, "@#@$ What the hell? You could have just intimitaded them. @#$@$!" Mr. Man mews from Bud's backpack.

He yells at the prisoner trying to escape while cocking his gun. "Sit down. I ain't as bad a shot as the others."
OOC:
Bud is trying intimidation instead of trying to immediately murder the prisoners. Being new to this system what do I roll? Intellect? Strength?
Mar 25, 2024 10:36 pm
OOC:
I think there’s a pretty good chance that those that missed their combat checks may have hit some of the prisoners that aren’t participating in the attempted escape, but before we resolve that, what is Dodger doing in this situation? Helping with pulling the cage work from its moorings? Sitting back and letting things transpire without him? Attempting to stop his fellow inmates? Something else?
Mar 26, 2024 1:35 am
Dodger jolts awake just in time to see the inmates start shaking the cage back a forth. The mixed yelling of fear and anger from the civilians in the front section is not a good sign. Dodger sees the Marine bring the flame thrower up towards the cage.

"Fuck me."

Dodger drops to the floor and covers his head with his arms trying to put seats and bodies between himself and flamey death.
Mar 28, 2024 4:55 pm
OOC:
I think we’ll have Dodger make a Speed check. If he passes, he takes cover behind the seats and the other inmates before the other open fire. If he fails, there’s no Stress taken, but he’ll still be out in the open when the shooting started.
Mar 28, 2024 7:47 pm
Mullis will glance back as the weapons are being fired.

"Aww fuck, we're having serious issues with prisoner compliance. The situation is escalating as I speak, twenty four hours is unacceptable. If you value your positions, I wouldn't provoke the ire of XeroCorp. They wouldn't take kindly if the ship lands and all of their new hires are dead. Now do something!"

He'll continue to bang on the door before running back to his seat to double check his Vacsuit and rigging gun.

If shit goes South, this may be my only ticket out of here.
