Bud perks up and opens his eye. "Chess?", he says gruffly clearly interested.

"Yes Annelise, I can project a board in holograph form. You and Bud may play if you like."

It was a good idea to keep everyone calm. They were more apt to follow the rules that way.

The android projects a chess board with the pieces set up appropriately. "The board will react to hand gestures," she informs them.

Mullis grips the sides of the seat as the ship thrusts through the atmosphere. He fights the rising biscuit in his throat, trying to stop the vomit. Leaning his head back, he takes a few breaths as their course finally stabilizes. He slowly turns to Bud and Annelise, trying hard not to move his body more than he needs to.

"I won't be much competition in this state but as far as entertainment on this trip, watching a game of chess sounds delightful."

Mullis tries his best to look pleasant and attentive but his eyes steal glances at the long- haired prisoner. He’d like to think his queasiness is all nerves but there's a feeling of anticipation he can’t shake.

"Ok, yeah, I could go for a game of chess.", Bud says but his attention is focused on the twitchy Doctor.

He lifts an eyebrow and says, "You ok?", and then glances where Dr. Mullis's eyes dart.

"What's so interesting over there?", he whispers to the Doctor.

He squints his eyes, trying to figure out what has Mullis so startled.

Mullis snaps his eyes back to Bud.

"Ye..yeah," he says out loud before leaning closer.

"It’s the smaller man. He seems fixated on something. It"s, uh, probably nothing. Like Ellos said, just nerves. Though it wouldn’t hurt to fill our security in."

Bud sits back and silently stretches. As he does he gives a casual glance to the little man trying to figure out what he's doing.

As he does that he says, "You know what helps nerves. Put your head between your legs. It will help with the spins."

Roll to see if Bud is observant enough to see the guy trying to escape?

She takes her first move and nods, "Best is a cool cloth on the back of your neck."

"Both will work," Ellos-11 remarks curtly. Empathy had never been programmed into her trait programming.

@ Windyridge: Ellios-11 runs a scan of the first inmate in the cage. In a manner of milliseconds her scans find several district features of the prisoner's face that should hit in the prisor database, but finds to her dismay that her access to the inmate's records has been •••DATA RESTRICTED•••. She runs a facial scan on another prisoner and again a •••DATA RESTRICTED••• result turns up. All efforts to access the inmate records are met with the same outcome. This is highly concerning, as nothing regarding the removal of Ellois's access to the XeroCorp Inmate Record appears to have been accidental.

Bud looks over and sees the large inmate glaring at each of you in turn, but for every brief moment or two of attention he spends on each of you, he sends a bit longer leering at the doctor. It's difficult to read the large man's intentions; perhaps he just enjoys making the doctor uneasy, perhaps his threatening demeanor is merely a distraction to hold the new hires' attentions his way, or as in the case of the doctor, force their eyes elsewhere than from the cage in the back. At the large man's feet, Bud sees a smaller, long-haired man working at something along the floor, but from this far back, his hand is obstructed from view by the base of the cage.

"Hey uh, Sarget, sorry, uh, Sir? You have any ideas how to help with the Doc's nerves? Bet you've been on a lot of flights.", Bud says to the hard looking militia man, Riggs, and gestures with his eyes towards the suspicious prisoners.

Wha... wait... oh... oh yeah... Riggs had started dozing off, and the question caught him a bit off guard.

"Tough it out. It never gets better, you just get used to it. I know that's not the miracle answer you were hoping for, but... it's the reality of the situation. Honestly sorry I don't have a better answer though -- first times are rough. So are the second and third."

Now for the love of God, let me sleep.

"I can’t say I envy anyone that frequents flights such as these. I do hope to find some rest before reaching our destination. Perhaps the waste pod is equipped with running water. A splash may do me some good."

Mullis stands on wobbly legs and moves towards the waste pod.

This is going to be a long damn trip.

"#$@#", Bud thinks.

"Sure, that's worth exploring.", he says to the good doctor.

Then Bud looks at the Corporal and hits Riggs on the shoulder. He whispers to the military person, "Bud, it ain't just the doc that's nervous."

He subtlety points at the long haired prisoner.

Meanwhile, while Elios-11 continues displaying the holographic chess game she multitasks and continues to return troubling and inexplicable results. One by one the prisoner manifest details have been blocked from her. Were they all in trouble? What could this possibly mean? Was the Corp abandoning them?
Mar 17, 2024 10:49 pm
"Hit me again, see what happens," Riggs replies.

"HEY!! Shithead prisoner with the long hair trying to escape or whatever the hell you're doing -- stop, or I will burn every prisoner back there alive." Riggs calls the suspect prisoner out on the spot, trusting that other prisoners might stop him since burning alive includes them.

The long-haired. Prisoner stops fidgeting on the floor and looks at the Corporal, a queer look in his gaze. Riggs nudges the man on the floor with his foot and quietly says, "Cool it, Bronson". The man, presumably named Bronson, looks up at the bigger fella for a moment and then turns, still sitting on the floor, and leans against the mesh work of the cage with his back to the travelers, legs pulled up and arms hugging his knees.
The larger man still glares at the newcomers on the other side of the cage, especially the doctor.
OOC:
As stated before, the travel from Carnath to the asteroid on which the prison station is located takes about thirty six hours. For the purposes of speeding things along a bit, what is everyone planning to do to pass the time?
Mar 18, 2024 9:17 pm
Bud smirks and settles back into his chair.
OOC:
Bud will play chess with whoever plays chess, eat when it's time, and then get some shuteye.

Elios-11 will continue to "host" the chess games and become more and more perplexed about her security clearance level change.
Mar 19, 2024 1:01 am
Riggs will sleep as much as possible, and eat what's available to him.

Dr. Mullis exits the waste pod with a look of relief on his face. He does a few stretches to loosen up, trying his best to keep his eyes from the cage. He couldn't make out exactly what Riggs had said while he was occupied but it must of have made some impact. At the very least, the small man seems less brazen.

It still doesn't help the fact that I'll be sharing the same facility as these brutes. Hopefully the bars on Echo are thick.

Mullis plops down into his seat and flips open to his dog-eared page.

"Perhaps now I can read my damn book."
OOC:
Mullis will read until he nods off for a bit. If there's more chess to be played he'll join in.
