Verin spins -- almost a pirouette, really -- as the blast expands outward, putting a bookshelf between herself and the attack. It isn't ideal, but it provides a modicum of cover. She "huffs" as the energy bites into her, shaking her head and (still clutching her blade) looks for signs that the shade is still there.

I'm sorry guys, I should have done this as we started.

The young elven woman with very blond hair takes out a piece of chalk and draws a circle around her and a smaller one just touching the side of her own. Just like a disproportional figure 8. In the smaller circle, where she placed her glasses and started to call out names in Elvish. Her face looks very different without them
What continues is a 10-minute-long ritual that culminates in a series of hand gestures that direct energy into the smaller circle with the glasses.

She breaks the circles and reclaims her glasses. With them on again, she walks through the room pointing out enchantments and magical artifacts.
OOC:
Ritualised Detect magic. Had to look ritual up in the core book. If you know a spell with the ritual tag, then you can cast it as a ritual. Not all classes has this ability in vanilla D&D 5e

Astrid scans the whole room while everyone else waits, on edge in case the shade comes back. She sees nothing. On a closer pass of the side rooms, however, there's a very solid aura coming from one of the walls. It's illusion magic of some sort, and the spot that's emanating the magic is about the size you'd expect a door to be.

It's impossible to tell what, if anything, is behind the wall. Maybe you should just forget about it and finish moving the books. Or maybe you should make sure the library is absolutely 100% safe first.

Astrid taps the wall where the illusionary door should be. There is a hidden door here.

I don't think we should do anything about it, other that be aware that it could be a source of surprises.

If everyone is okey we should get back to work

S'sylin looked at Astrid incredulously. Ignore such a find? He thought not!
"Really? Do nothing? How about... we do something!"

With weapons at the ready, the Dark One walked over to the indicated spot to find and open the door..

"I agree. Action is preferable to inaction." Turchuk joins S'sylin at the door.
May 3, 2024 4:52 pm
"Yeah, sure, forget the job we're supposed to be doing. Let's just charge off through some random door because it's there," Verin mutters, sheathing her blade and resting her hands on her hips.

When Fallowcrest returns we can tell him about the hidden door and then explore it if that is what he wants. We were attacked and we would like to avoid that happening again - while we work!. That is why I checked the room.

To make a peace offering to S'sylin she offers an alternative or compromise.
We can put a trip wire across the door or something so we will get a warning if the door is opened while we work!

Now lets get back to work
. Astrid turns on her heal to continue on her bookshelf

It doesn't take long at all for S'sylin to find the secret door. He walks along the area in question, pushing firmly on various sections of the book shelves to see which ones feel like they might have been designed to move. But the answer is even simpler than that. When he tries to push on on particular section of bookshelf, his hand simply goes through it as if it's not really there. A quick check reveals that the entire set of shelves is simply not really there. It will be a simple matter to walk through the illusion. Turchuk is right behind him, but it seems that if they go through, they'll be going alone.
OOC:
I'm not going to stop anyone from going through that door, if that's really what they want to do, but I'm also not going to force the others to go along, so... split the party if you dare.

Also, I think everyone should be able to tell what kinds of books are on the shelf at a glance, so we'll skip that identification roll just to make sure this doesn't bog down. You'll just need one per shelf of the type that the shelf is to determine if you manage to complete that shelf successfully. The shelves are now labeled on the map so everyone knows what to roll. The secret door is also noted.

Turchuk and Verin each carefully pack a box without incident. Astrid, on the other hand, doesn'tg realize that her shelf is wobbly. Only thoat one stack of books on the end midway up is keeping it balanced, so when she grabs those, the whole shelf topples down over her.

While the other three get back to work on the shelves, S'sylin slips through the illusory bookshelf...

The one with the bronze plating really shouldn't have been stacked on the top shelf. An decent librarian knows the heavy books go on the bottom. But maybe the person who put those there wasn'ta decent librarian, which begs the question, then, why are there so many books here?

Astrid gets about two feet away from the stairs and then stops. Something doesn't feel right.

Astrid focus through her headacke and summons a magehand. She uses that hand to examine the staircase.
Did Fallowcrest lead them into a trap? Into a dungeon with no other obvious exits and a shadow ghost. Did the bump on her head make her paranoid?
The magehand grabs hold of each plank on the stairs and tries to move them up, down and about.
