Advice on Game Text Formatting

Not quite sure if this is the proper thread to be posting in, but I was wondering how some of the more experienced PBP GMs formatted the posts in their games to make things easier to understand. I've seen things like, bolding for in character dialogue and color coding for OOC questions and statements, but I was wondering if anyone had a clear cut guideline or could point me in the direction of one? A couple of my players and I are new to the PBP format so, I'd like to have something as reference for us.
