"Any chance you can spot us some holy water, or some coin to prepare for this endeavor? I won't be able to tackle this tonight since the spells I prepared today were not in anticipation of ghouls."
Apr 8, 2024 12:52 pm
Winona shivers. The thought of these abominations defiling the dead, consuming the corpses, leaves her light headed.
"Yes, we should prepare and leave in the morning. I'll pray to Gozreh for the strength to end this threat. "

Jathus is ready, but understands the needs of his companions to prepare for such an adventure. "Jathus is always ready for adventure. You know this, my friends. Yet, I will be happy to fill my gut with liquid resolve this night regardless. If anyone should care to join me, you know where I'll be! Let us otherwise reconvene at the cemetery bright and early, yes?"

Jathus politely excuses himself and makes sure, again, his invitation to join him at the Rusty Dragon stands. He promptly heads over to get piss-drunk and carouse with the locals, telling all manner of stories - some true, some not. The earlier he starts, he guesses, the sooner he'll pass out and the better off he'll be in the morning. That's how it works, right?

"Hol' up, Jathus. Before everyone leaves I have a proposition for you. As you know I've been running my fortune-telling business when I can and I've recently learned how to apply fortune with a ritual. If each of you could provide me with an hour of your time tonight I hope to supply you with a modicum of luck in our endeavors tomorrow."
OOC:
The harrow reading ritual no longer costs me anything to do other than time now Perf is level 4. It also lowered the DC. If you would like your character to participate you just need to provide an in-character goal to achieve for this ritual, such as "eradicate the ghouls feasting on the loved ones of this village" or "locate the shroud of what's-her-face".[ +- ] Harrowing Ritual

Zan seemes to consider Jathus proposal. t was rare she stayed the night is town nowadays, and had been a while since she had spent time in a tavern.. a little bit of fun wouldn't hurt and a tavern bed or the ones her parents kept for her would mean she is nearby for tomorrow. Unless Bethana had changed her stance on the druid sleeping in the bushes from last time.
At the mention of the ritual she pauses following Jathus out. 'Thats sounds fun. I can take part, yes!'

Jathus, already standing and ready to head to the door. Looks plainly at Perf for several moments. "I will do this thing, for you my friend. Tell me where and I'll meet you for this ritual." Then he'd see how many drinks he could get in before the indicated time.
OOC:
Jathus's personal goal for the harrow reading: Destroy the creatures that took Nualia's remains.Last edited April 9, 2024 8:50 pm

Jathus sits with Perf in a more secluded area reserved for clients of his fortune telling. Jathus may notice that the deck Perf is using for the ritual is far more ornate than the usual deck he's seen Perf fidget-shuffle before. Perf spends the first part of the ritual meditating with Jathus who has his goal in mind and drawing occult themed symbols in strategic places. After it is complete Perf speaks at last.
"Jathus, as you know, this power sealed in my gauntlet needs an outlet. One way I've found to safely allow this is to use fortune telling to let it have a hand, as it were, in fate. I shall now read yours."
Perf lays the cards out and gives his spiel about each in turn, then finally he draws the last card for this reading that ties it all together.
"Ah, 7 of books. This reading will effect something you do in relation to your wits. For weal or woe, let it be so."
The target gains agency over fate and chance while in the pursuit of their goal, gaining a "wild card." At any point during harrowing's duration of 1 month, the creature can expend this wild card to immediately reroll any associated check they just made. They must use the second result. Once this reroll is taken and the wild card is spent, the harrowing ritual's effects end.
Jathus rolled a 4 which means you can use this wild card to reroll a single skill check (Any skill, not just intelligence based) that had to do with his goal of destroying the creatures that took the shroud.

That 19 I rolled was the DC necessary to succeed this ritual. This is the pertinent information:The target gains agency over fate and chance while in the pursuit of their goal, gaining a "wild card." Winona also agrees, feeling like she needs some reassurance since they're going to sin against all the good gods (from her own battle persisting). "Thank you, Perf."
She considers her goals and when it's her turn to get a reading, she focuses on: End the ghouls predation on the local cemeteries.

For Winona's reading it goes largely the same except for the lynchpin card.
"Oho, Prince of Keys. Your fated goal, should it be weal or woe, will have you dodge and dance. Step light with care in your endeavor, my friend."

OOC:
Winona gains agency over fate and chance while in the pursuit of their goal, gaining a "wild card." Her suit (the d6 roll) has to do with Dexterity, specifically any reflex saving throw. At any point during harrowing's duration of 1 month, Winona can expend this wild card to immediately reroll any reflex save they just made, gaining a +4 status bonus to the reroll. They must use the second result. Once this reroll is taken and the wild card is spent, the harrowing ritual's effects end.Last edited April 10, 2024 7:08 am

The following morning, you make your way to the cemetery to begin your grim task. Zantus and Naffer, the priest in charge of upkeep of the graveyard, lead you to the grave, which is kept away from most of the others and show you the hold leading down. Securing a rope above, you make your way down into the darkness of the tunnels below.
The open grave leads to a cramped, four-foot-tall tunnel dug through hard-packed earth and clay. The walls are supported by bracing made of wood that appears to have been scavenged from coffins, driftwood, and shipwreck salvage. Faint smudges and scrapes track through the dirt, leading south.

Winona casts Light on her shield, and steps forward. "Best stay behind me for this one big guy. You're not going to do any good up there."

As you move southward, you hear a voice from within the next chamber. It's high pitched and somewhat raspy and, though it's hard to understand specifics, you are pretty sure it's speaking in the goblin tongue.

Jathus allows himself to reposition behind Winona. He shakes his head, "I do not, Win, but do I speak the language of action - if it is a foe, they will understand well enough."

Perf listens carefully, but the words are quiet. From what he can gather, they are complaining of their hunger and one says that they should demand that Glorkus let them go into town to "catch some dinner". The others quickly shush that one and continue to grumble quietly amongst themselves.
